There are a lot of different farming enterprises you can get into but here are 4 solid, tried and true ideas that will help you earn money to pay for your farm or homestead.
We talk about ideas that are easy to implement, have a low barrier to entry and can be profitable.

That's my problem I love growing my own food and I always grow too much . I also enjoy sharing with family and friends. I do sell some but mostly I like giving a home grown chicken to someone who has never had one. It always amazes me how many people gave never had real food,as I call it. It feels good to teach people where food comes from and how good it is. I only have a 2 1/2 acre hobby farm but I produce a lot of meat. I enjoy you videos thank you.

The real downfall to the egg production is that too many people sell them too cheap. Then folks think you are crazy when you ask $4 or $5 a dozen because so n so sells em for $2.

Thank you for the realistic world of making money on a farm. I get so tired of those who claim this one crop or this one animal will make you rich.
@ubuntunewb
@ubuntunewb 3 жыл бұрын
You talk about how it's not a rich adventure, but honestly if you want to make money(in town job) and buy good quality product, it takes away a good portion of the income you've been making and there is no real guarantee it's been raised/slaughtered ethically. So I'm going to see if it's possible to get a good balance raising these animals ethically and keep my day job with the possibility of selling stuff on the side to Friends and Family.

Well that's all and good giving advice on what you can do. But I think many might need to know how to get from that one and a half acer (or maybe even if they just have a big garden) with no animals. What the best most profitable and quickest way is to get to the point where you are today. You already did the journey and I think that information might help others forward their dream.

Love your channel, subscribed after watching your first video. You offered solid, down to earth advise that has a real value. I would really like to hear what you have to say but offering such advise in a noisy chicken coops is counterproductive. If ya need the effect of being in a noisy environment and have something important to say, a voiceover may be the solution. Just my 2 cents......................I'm gonna need those back, I'm a farmer too.

I am 4.5 acres in Northern Alberta. I have a miniature jersey cow. (Google them. They are so cute!) Just like there are miniature jersey horses, there are miniature cows. I kind of got into it because I was a bit intimidated by having a big honkin' dairy cow but I hate the fact that people are now scared to sell raw milk. We grew up in raw milk which my mother bought from a farmer. Miniature jersey cows are a solution. There are so many advantages to have a miniature cow. For example: 1) They eat less in winter; 2) The are kid friendly and non-itimidating; 3) They need less pasture because they are small; 4) They need less rigorous fencing because they are small; 5) they make less manure; 6) They give 2 to 5 gallons of milk day as opposed to 10 to 12 form a big cow, milk which you can't (legally) sell; 7) If you really want lots of milk, two minis are better than one big dairy cow. They are companions for each other and one can be resting while the other is producing milk. If one gets sick, they other might not be, etc. 8) They are expensive, at least $5000. Yes, that is an advantage. The calves which you sell will pay for everything you need to take good care of the cow and then some. I waited two years to get mine. One breeder I know of won't even put you on the waiting list unless you put $500 up front. Because they are so much in demand, you will never have trouble selling them. I once read that during the Great Depression in the 1930's, the difference between being rich and poor was as simple as having a family dairy cow (or two) and a few chickens. Cows, give you all the expensive things, milk, cheese, ice cream, butter, yogurt and beef if she has a bull which you make into a steer. As I am new to this, I won't have a calf and milk until the spring of 2021 but I am surely looking forward to it.

The circle of life. Nature’s law is above all, including any squeamish modern ideologies. If the animals aren’t treated humanely in a healthy environment, nature’s law asserts itself with sickness, parasites, bad meat etc. if treated well till the end of their life cycle, which includes considering the impact on the land, then the whole ecosystem benefits and is more robust, strong and healthy. Nature makes the law, period.
