Operation overlord was a masterpiece of military coordination, guide by common sense, ingenuity and innovation. The logistical problems to be overcome were endless, second only to the incredible challenges of the invasion of Okinawa in the Pacific theater

this video is really impressive and well-researched! I love how it dives deep into lesser-known aspects of WW2. but honestly, I think some of these "facts" might be a bit exaggerated. it's important to remember the human stories behind the stats, rather than just presenting numbers. what do you all think?

The writers got it all wrong when describing the events that unfolded at Leyte, and specifically off Samar. The absolutely vicious attacks by a few DDs and DEs, namely the USS Johnston and Samuel B. Roberts of Taffy 3, led the Japanese commander to initially believe that he was being attacked by heavy cruisers! The gun crews of those little tin cans didn't stand a chance of actually sinking any of the Japanese capital units, but they did very enthusiastically maul their upper works and weather decks, and with the launching of torpedoes, forced the Japanese to undertake evasive maneuvers and regroup. The Johnston and one or two others were eventually lost I think, but the fearless charge of those little tin cans will go down as the most heroic action in the history of naval warfare. Those poor sailors died because of Halsey's stupidity. He abandoned them. HMS Glow Worm, in a totally different battle, deserves honorable mention as well.

Yes ,,the weapon platforms that were available were only for taking out infantry and light machine gun nests and pull boxes... like high explosive/shrapnel rounds... nothing like armor penetration rounds were available...so taffy 3 pilots did what they could with what was available,,,,legend has it a taffy 3 pilot was throwing empty coke bottles at the superstructure of the Japanese capitol ships after he exhausted his ammo

Hello I just discovered your channel after another KZbin watcher recommenced it. The first thing I always check out on a new channel is their playlists. I noticed you have only one. I wanted to let you Know that people like to use playlists to work to or sleep to. This is the entire reason I pay for KZbin premium. If you create more playlists and people start putting on your channel all the time to work or sleep to, it will greatly increase your income from KZbin. Best wishes and thank you for your channel as a 24/7 history junkie 365 days a year I’m sure I’m going to be very grateful for your content. Cheers Scott

I just wanted to say your first new playlist could be all your videos and then maybe make some bunching up like eras of history etc.

The Japanese suicide charges were absolutely idiotic. They should have pulled back their remaining troops when an island was obviously going to be lost, and concentrated them on islands further down the chain. This would have made each successive island more and more difficult to assault. What were they thinking?

4 More Hours Of Astonishing WW2 Facts? This is just 5 episodes joined together , we call that a playlist not a compilation of facts. If I wanted a playlist I would just compile my own, anything to get more ad views eh ?

Uh, just for the record, nazis enjoy seeing graphic scenes of death and destruction. Just sayin. The presenter here obviously realizes that there may be young children watching these videos as a part of their history studies.

@@stargazer5784 ahh right. whoever posted this has done it incase they get blocked or demonitised. TBF I watch a different ww2 doc after this one and that one wasnt censored. That said, youtube must be hard on scences of death and destruction. I follow a few Ukraine war bloggers and none of the will show uncensored clips.
