Another great video, this channels putting out some of the best content that is actually relatable. Any day now this channel is gonna blow up BIG! The combination of the background music and narration of the urchins habits was particuarly good. I would love a series of shortish videos narrated in the first person from the animals perspective for their care requirements of each of the species in your tank in that style. That would be hilarious to me but to noone else most likely.

Hey Tom, when you panned on to the yellow tang I saw only 7 Chromis? I think a few videos ago you had 8 left out of the initial 9 you added at the start. How are the chromis school doing?

Hi Brandon, that was last summer, the school is down to 4 now. In fighting. The 4 seem to have Accepted each other. They’ve been 4 for 7 months now. 👍🏻

Hi Tom, great one. Nice to see the 10g. I order more hermit crab today, base on your opinion. A question about the 16HD, have you a idea of the time life of the LEDs ? Thank you
@TOMReefer2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jean, thanks! Hermit crabs can never hurt your tank👍🏻 i’ve had my first 16 HD for about 3 years. Manufacturer says 6 to 7 years without losing color rendering index. I would use mine longer than that if it still was working properly. 👍🏻😊

Great video Tom. I have a several types of tangs but the MVP of hair algae destruction is my orange spotted rabbitfish. It will eat the long strands of hair algae. Maybe give it a try.
@TOMReefer2 жыл бұрын
Hi Andrew, thanks, does the orange spotted rabbitfish eat any corals? I’ve read it likes leathers etc. I’ve never kept one before.
@fugimo3212 жыл бұрын
@@TOMReefer there is always that chance but mine has never touched any coral. From your videos I know you feed mysis. If you get one, I would add LRS fish frenzy (or somethinglike it.) I personally think it satisfys there need for something meaty and will leave corals alone. Right now my orange spotted (5") is in a tank with zoas and different types of willows corals. The tank also has a foxface (4 1/2") and barred (3"). The 3 have been around softies, lps, and sps and never touched any coral. I also feed frozen Angel and Butterfly food once a month.
@TOMReefer2 жыл бұрын
That’s really good to hear Andrew. I’ll give my hermits a chance for a few months. I’m already seeing some going way. But the rabbitfish could be next if I don’t see improvement. What size tank is that in?
@fugimo3212 жыл бұрын
@@TOMReefer Just think of them as a super hardy tang. Mine from 1 1/2 - 3 1/2 inches was in a 55 gallon. Your yellow tang and a rabbitfish will be fine in your 70 gallon. 20 gallons would be a little tight for a baby. In my case, with the small tanks I swap the rock with a clean one. Let the rabbitfish take care of it. I don't have any pod predators in the small tanks. The rock swap allows for a fresh batch of pods to enter the tank.

I just discovered your channel, and I’m loving it! It’s a lot of fun and you have beautiful tanks! 🪸 Do you quarantine your fish prior to adding them to the display tanks? I’m very new to the hobby and I’m learning quite a bit from your channel:) 🐠🐡🐟
@TOMReefer2 жыл бұрын
Hi Krista Lynn, you probably should, but I don’t. I get my fish from 2 LFS’s that use copper in their tanks, which kills ich, and I’m not set up for quarantine. 👍🏻glad you are enjoying the channel!

Currently thinking about getting a lawnmower blenny for my new reef tank but I also want to keep a bristletooth tang in the near future . Read a few times that they don’t get along so I’m searching for a good algae eater instead of the blenny
@TOMReefer Жыл бұрын
Algae blenny’s are more of a micro algae eater. Kind of keeps the small stuff from growing up. I would recommend a few more astrea snails. This way there’s no competition between fish.

My algae blenny would sit on top of a throne of hair algae. Never ate a thing other than pellets

As soon as hair algae gets over about a centimetre there's nothing that eats it. The end of the filaments have become too wiry. For anything to eat it it needs to be short and fresh.
