I am a former 18E. I went to basic in 04 and entered under the 18X contact. I went to airborne school immediately following basic the. It was off to Bragg for SOPC phase 1-A. I was a first time go on everything. I got Persian/Farsi as my language and went to 5th group. I deployed three times to Iraq and ETSed in the end of 09. I came in the army at 120lbs but packed on weight. The most important piece of advice I can give is have a good mindset and have the willingness to push your body beyond what you think it can do.

You brought up a good point about motivations for wanting to become a Green Beret. Doing it for the clout, prestige and recognition isn’t going to be good enough when shit hits the fan and you get tested, you actually have to want to do the things that SF does so you can best serve your country. Do what you want to do, not be who you wanna be. I'd say phase 1 is important as phase 3 from a psychological standpoint. If you're not building a strong, confident baseline and you're too busy beating yourself up with self doubt in phase 1, selection will kick your ass that much more and you'll potentially find yourself in a place you don't want to be. Of course planning out your decision only gets you so far.

Worst mistake I made was allowing myself to get bitter and let poor leadership ruin my mental state. I wish I would have applied myself and reenlisted to try for 18D. I got lucky in that my training was stuff you talk about While it didn't happen, what attracted me to Special Forces, was ,yes, the challenge. But the biggest point and attraction was it required thinking. Creative thinking. Learning to ruck, land nav, etc... those are skills. Physical fitness is a skill. It's learn able. Creative thinking is the hard one to teach. To get crude: I liked special forces because you fuckers think instead of checking boxes.

Hey Buck. Ship out April 25th for 35M and going to DLI first. I’m in relatively great shape all around based off of your videos and my own research. I am 30 years old and had concerns going 18x vs the route I chose now. My TSC has already cleared, I’ve got Language School first then AIT for 35M. I went this route based on if I got hurt or for whatever reason didn’t make selection I would be kicked back to Intelligence. My question is will I have good “sof” opportunities on the Intell side if I’m high speed physically enough? I have the same mind set of you as far as I tend to want more and more and set goal after goal. Theoretically I was wanting to be sent to an sof unit under 35m and put in my packet for selection asap. I know this is a lot of jumble put together but I honestly like your insight and videos the best lol figured I’d ask. Keep killing it man

Hey Buck, I’m 19 years old and my “dream job” is to join the military and join SF or SOF. I’ve been thinking about it everyday for as long as I can remember. Even as a young kid it’s always been my goal/dream. Ive been working for the past 2 years to get my fat ass in shape and I feel I’m almost there. There’s only one thing that holds me back and that worry’s me. I’ve been in a relationship for the past 2 and a half years, and I do want to marry this girl. We’re practically already married (live together, split bills and shit like that) I guess my only fear is losing her. She is very supportive of me joining the military and always pushes me to do what I am passionate about. I do plan on joint the military in the near future it’s just I’m having a hard time getting out of my head about what will happen to my relationship and pulling the trigger. Any advice you can shed on a youngin? Great video!
