I would love to see some Thirty Years War content. It is incredibly overlooked in media, wargames and historical relevance, while being a perfect tactical middle ground between ancients and napoleonics and a perfect strategic setting, not to mention its significance and impact on Europe.

I really like the strategy cards, the randomness of it is just so interesting. This is one of those games that I always wished i got a chance to play. Congrats to Chael, but I don't think it was entirely decisive, but I understand its a long game. Either way, very entertaining.

My absolute favorite board game as a young adult!! We played every week on Wednesday nights in college one year, as there were not many Thursday morning classes on campus. The game became legendary on campus with so many people becoming aware of it, they would ask us who won on Thursday. In fact a group of girls tp’ed our cars one night as we were gathered to play and no one noticed until the game wrapped up late. I love the variable set up, turn stealing and strategy on how to build your armies and provincial forces. Such a novel game and by FAR the best of the game master series games!

When I was in high school in the late 80s, I acquired Shogun, Fortress America, and Axis&Allies, my brother and my friends had great times with those games, but Shogun (I had the original) stood out as a true convas for creative, incisive play. The initiative, ninja and allocation mechanics were absolute gold, resulting in a looming sense of dread as everyone essayed to murder each other behind their player screens. Reading the other players' intent was a big part. I haven't played since high school, college and grad school, but I have used the allocation and initiative concepts In a game I have developed and I hope will soon see publishing. Thanks for doing this video. FYI, there is an immaculately rendered copy of Shogun available on Table Top Simulator's workshop.

I have the original game purchased in 1986 or 87. The group I played with back then enjoyed it - we all thought it was the best of the M-B Game Master series. Haven't played it in over 35 years. Hoping to get it to the table with the current group I play with. I will send a link to this playthrough so they can get a feel for it.

Sincerely regretting selling my copy 20 years ago or so now - I had the original Shogun. This sent me off to eBay -- but before I pulled the trigger I realized that I don't have that circle of friends that you talked about. It would never get played -- which was why I sold it in the first place. Still, this game had such an impact on me in terms of game design and just such a great artistic style, too. Maybe I could justify it for the nostalgia. :-)

13:45 In the version of 'Shogun' that I have, the ninja may not be hired for assassination on the first turn. He can still be used as a spy in the first turn, that is to say, give his hirer the chance to examine one player's expenditure choices before allocating his own koku. It seems to me a reasonable rule, in order that everyone gets a fair start in the game. Thoughts?
