the thumbs are so much easier! I dont care if its a "bad habit", if i can play the songs I want with it, im doing it!

Go for it! Always go with whats comfortable and fun for you as a player. Plus it definitely has some great sounds - and if it’s good enough for all the great session guys, it’s good enough for me! Thanks for commenting.

I play with my thumb when I play in lofi somgs, modern pop songs and soft rock. It just sound more… round, fatter and more beautiful. I just can’t explain it

Excellent video again, there's so much to learn and you carry us through it nicely. Also can't ever go wrong with that badpenny fuzz. Keep it up bro.

Thank you, appreciate that! The good thing is that the learning process is a lot of fun on the bass. Yeah that Bad Penny box is definitely a keeper! Not a bad sound in it! Thanks!

I play a pbass with flats. I’ve wanted a rickenbacker with that neck pickup - so I can play those Beatles tunes. But just today I realized that playing my p with my thumb is like owning a neck pickup bass. It’s great.

That’s great! It’s amazing what just adjusting technique can do for tone shaping! Also a P bass with flats - such an iconic pairing! Thanks for sharing that and for watching! Thanks Gavin

I have hell of a time using alternating fingers!

It took me a while to get used to that when I started, but definitely worth taking the time to get used to it - such a fun technique! Thank you very much for watching the video and commenting, I really appreciate it! Thanks Gavin

What do you do about damage to the thumb from long term slap playing ?
@gavinforbesmusic5164 Жыл бұрын
Good question. I personally haven’t had any issues with the type of slap technique I use. You may get the soreness on the surface of the skin at first while building the calluses, just like when learning to play fingerstyle. But I would say if you are getting more serious pain or any muscular issues, strains or aches outwith what I previously described, it could be worth reassessing the way you are approaching the technique and make some adjustments. Everybody’s hands are different, so even a textbook perfect technique may need some tailoring to suit you. I hope that helps, but if you need any more details or have more questions please do leave them here too and I’ll try my best to answer them. Thanks for watching and commenting! Gavin

How do we get quality recording like this
@gavinforbesmusic51642 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching and commenting. Really all you need to record good audio is an audio interface (a box that your mic, guitar etc plugs into) for your computer and some for of Digital Audio Workstation (also known as a DAW). It’s basically software that you record the sound into. Those can be free for basic ones or hundreds of pounds/dollars for fancy ones, but the free ones are perfect for starting out. Some audio interfaces even come with lite versions of the software perfect for getting started. Then after you have the basics, you can gradually improve things, like using a good preamp after my bass that then feeds into the audio interface to shape the sound. But those aren’t essential right away - you get great virtual preamps and effects as software (called plug ins) for the recording software that do a great job on a budget. I hope that helps, and if you have any further questions please leave them here and I will try to address them properly in a future video. Thanks again for watching!

Me too - always thought was cool When I saw the custom ones and couldn’t believe it when this Squier model came out. My only wish is that they did a fretless one, but that’s a big ask these days! Haha Sadly the discontinued it but reckon can still get em on the used market. Thanks for commenting and watching! Thanks Gavin
