The fly away could be due to signal disturbance as you were in a built up area but no excuse for the video shake. I have a mavic air and spark which have WiFi too but I’ve never experienced any signal issues. That said, I rarely fly in populated areas. The only reasons I would buy the mini are affordability, portability and more battery time. Hopefully the replacement solves the issues.

Hi KlooGee, we are sorry to hear the trouble. Could you please tell us the environment temperature that you were flying? And have you returned the drone? If the drone has not been returned, please kindly help to export the flight data from the drone, upload to Dropbox/Google Drive and provide us with the link, we'll have our engineers check on it. If you have sent in the drone to DJI, please kindly provide us with your case number, we'd love to keep our eyes on it.

Hi! I had the same problem with mine (aircraft power exceeded) and was able to solve it for good! You have to be careful with the position of the rear props in the Fly more combo case. If the props move the slightest amount, they end up pressed under the drone which will rapidly modify the prop pitch (flatten). A lower angle of attack (AOA) requires a higher RPM from the motor to produce the same lift and that bring the max RPM alert and ultimately a forced landing without any warning... I have changed my rear props and I just do not put it in the bag anymore... You hear the difference right on takeoff, the drone is much quieter (rear prop not over spinning). That solved my problem on the spot! What a great and reliable drone now!

I'd say the jello effect was caused by the sub zero temps, have seen it on another Mavic Mini video where they showed the jello disappeared once the drone and temps warmed up! Could be the gimball is prone to sticking in very low temps! The fly away issue I'll bet was caused by the 15mph, gusting to 21mph winds, that's a bit extreme for this little bird, I suspect the onboard sensors detected a tilt angle out of whack with what was actually happening and compensated by thrusting the motors in the opposite way unnecessarily. The 'aircraft insufficient power' message is the system detecting a heavy draw on the battery, in say a full throttle situation, as a battery issue or low power as the voltage level drops normally under such a condition, I suspect DJI will tune that in the next updates? 😎👍

A couple things that might help you here. On the FlyAway issue, you were over the city and near buildings. People have had problems with other Wi-Fi signals interfering with their flights. I'm not sure with the mavic mini, but with the spark you can monitor those other signal channels and pick the best one. Also, make sure that any Bluetooth is turned off while flying you're drone. Using Wi-Fi, you are always going to have some signal hesitation, but I have found that if my Bluetooth app is turned on and or my Bluetooth headset is turned on at the time, it is a lot worse. The spark you can also use an OTG cable instead of Wi-Fi connecting your phone to the remote.

The aircraft is rated to fly at 14 mph in normal mode. If you are hovering in a 15 mph wind your aircraft is going to have a hard time going anywhere but down wind. If it gusts it will lose position and control and go into sport mode so it can fly faster than the wind. Looking at the display you can see that it was moving away at a much higher speed than it is capable of flying, at one point over 50 MPH. You experienced a wind gust issue there. I also think that you may behaving some temperature issues, have you flown it indoors yet? And make sure that you are only using the specific micro SD cards that DJI specifies.
@David481146

There's a good chance that the reason your Mavic Mini sped away at an angle, is because there was a faulty motor or electronic speed control in the unit, but you were able to recover okay. I have had the same thing happen to me with my Detect X380 but I was able to power down, land it hard and then investigate the cause. My problem was an Electronic Speed Control, and since I replaced it, have had no more problems.
@BeadAbear8

Insufficient power with a sound battery and battery charge is usually caused by bad props. I have noticed that the props are easily flattened out while in storage. The drone then tries to compensate with more motor speed. If you can land it while it is still showing that fault it will sound and alarm on the drone and twitch the motor that was struggling.

Maybe I’m just crazy, but being that he was recording pigeons on a building when it happened, I believe it may have simply been captured by a much larger bird that took it away briefly then let it go. Especially that it was flying at 65mph at an angle. I’m willing to bet it was a large bird. Too bad the bird was not visible in the video. With the Mavic mini being so small, it’s possible the bird thought it was prey, then realized it was not and let it go. Amazingly never touching the propellers in the process.

The Aircraft Power Insufficient power error comes from the drone fighting the wind. 25mph winds may not be much to us but to a 249G drone its like a tornado and your drone has to use so much power to fight the wind.. Thats is why you get the Aircraft Power Insufficient power message. In terms of the camera, I had the shaking also one time and I recalibrated it and never had an issue with it again. As far as your signal interference you might want to change your ghz. You are either on 2.4ghz or 5.8ghz. Many of the building and urban ares use 2.4ghz and all those in the area using 2.4ghz (which is most) are sharing the 2.4ghz signal with you and because use are sharing that signal you will get some interference. By switching to 5.8ghz you will not get as much interference as most urban areas use 2.4ghz which means you will have less interference. Nothing is guaranteed. I went to one spot to fly and it only went out 997ft and then kept losing my signal. I then came back to the same spot the next day and it flew out 5534ft without any signal interference at all so it all depends on the variables that are presented that day.

I saw the shaking on another KZbin video and they were saying it is to cold.. not sure why cold weather will affect the video, maybe is affecting the gimbal. I am going to use it only for small events and short videos when traveling in my motorhome.

The video shake is most likely because you need to calibrate your IMU and Compas. Mine did that and was fixed with the cal. The fly away could be because you flew into the beam of a satellite dish. I’ve lost video because of that. With your flying weather, check the dew point. Moisture in the air makes for prop icing and makes the motors work harder. For the screen freezing, what is your video transmission? Sometimes I lower the video transmission quality in the app. Thanks man. Keep flying. 😊👍

I just got my Mavic Mini and luckily never had an issue. I thought it first maybe the video card you put inside the Mavic mini was defective. Then of course the obvious gimbal issue. Mine is perfectly stable and so far records excellent video and photos. Flyaways are more common with such a tiny drones. It doesn’t take much of a gust so I only fly mine now in perfect conditions or as in near perfect as possible. It sounds like you got a lemon perhaps and I don’t think I would try flying it when the temperatures in the 30s with wind. I know people do it but I really try to take care of my toys until I really get to know them and/or they get old. I’m very happy I made the purchase and maybe one day if I’m still interested, I will get another model that is better and has more features. For the price I don’t think anyone can beat it. I’m sure I have many that agree.

So it sounds like you're getting a replacement, right? Maybe would be a more fair assessment to wait for the replacement to do an initial impression or review? KZbin sends notifications about new videos we might like based on our interests. Getting notified of a video with a title suggesting the product sucks gives a false impression. Did a falcon or other bird of prey attack and fly off with the drone momentarily? If the mini was going 65 mph, why assume it was under it's own power? If it can do 65, forget about registering with the FAA for being

Mine hit an uncontrolled max speed of 55 km and I too was lucky that it didn't collide with anything however anytime that I've started the Mini since that day it appears to have stability issues , it's like something got fried but not enough to prevent it from powering up, passing all the startups tests, etc. - I've tried re-calibration, swapping out the props but she jitters around now whereas she used to be rock steady, I'll be getting in touch with DJI support next but I was glad to see that I wasn't alone in my experience.

I will agree with you however that the battery power insufficient warning message does come up pretty much every time I use in sport mode and punch it but I feel like that’s to be expected and doesn’t really worry me too much. I would like it if it wasn’t so sensitive and constantly giving me the readout for battery power insufficient because eventually it starts to get in my head and distracting from piloting with confidence. Did you have a line of sight visual on the mini at the moment it started the fly away? Not sure about your area, but here in CA we have falcons that snatch pigeons in flight by swooping on them at high speed from above. Watching that video looks a lot like what I imagine an attack would look like from a pigeons POV lol! 65 mph speed would be consistent with that as well. Ive had a falcon as well as several crows attack my 3DR Solo but never actually get a grasp on it, but its also a large 5lb. Drone with 10in props on powerful motors. The Mav Mini on the other hand could easily be carried off by a large bird. Granted, a flyaway is inevitable for any drone at some point. But a 65mph sudden acceleration, and the direction it went seems like a falcon thought it was an easy meal.

Hopefully there will be some more improvements coming with the next firmware updates. There is a firmware update for the individual batteries, perhaps that might address some issues. Given what I saw I would definitely return that mini and try out another one.

@@DailyDroning Little odd, I had a little more of that lag today on two occasion, both only last fractions of a second and no loss of image. Perhaps it was due to slightly higher wind and cold today vs the last few flights. Overall still happy with the drone, certainly not a Mavic Pro/Zoom, but not bad for the price point.

The frequent power warning has been shown to be faulty propellers not creating enough lift causing the motors to reach peak power trying to compensate. The shaky video could also be due to faulty props not properly balanced. Your speed run certainly looks like strong wind shear carrying the drone away.

Jello might be from an unbalanced prop, I'm wandering if the flyaway was caused by bird strike or similar the gyro might have been upset from the impact. Power insufficient is likely due to the use of lithium ion batteries, they can't supply the current that lipos can so pushing control movement to the limits will likely result in voltage sag.
@Burn377
@Burn377 5 жыл бұрын
@@DailyDroning what you stated just now is the definition of voltage sag, under high load the voltage level will drop, you'll still be operational but lose a small amount of motor rpm. When the load is reduced the voltage recovers back to normal. Very common on fpv qauds with big motors on heavy punch outs. Will be interesting to see if you can replicate the issue with the replacement.

Having read all the comments, all is conjecture. However, some comments made sense such as, flying outside temperature limits and WIFI flying in a downtown city environment with interference. To pinpoint your problems try flying a duplicate pattern under the same weather when you receive your replacement mini. Let's see what happens! Question? Were you flying as a hobbyist or commercial pilot?
@karthurjr
@karthurjr 5 жыл бұрын
@@DailyDroning Captain Drone (Steve) from Canada found that the jello effect was caused by flying at extreme cold thus the gimbal and battery needed to warm up. Also, the WIFI is hampered by interference when not in VLOS. I believe he has the right ideas. Therefore, these problems will be limiting factors with all Mini's. Note, the guys in Florida aren't reporting the jello problem. Also, they tend to fly with VLOS so the interference is more negligible. Just some thoughts!
@uweengbertz

the yello effect on the first video is definitively a frozen gimbal. 10° F is far to cold. The insufficient power warning in S-mode is known to DJI and you are not alone.

Very interesting video of the manic fly away. Just a couple of observations. There is no way the Mini could power itself at those speeds, it can barely reach 27 mph. It would require well over twice the current, even if it was possible and the computer groans that power is insufficient even at 20+ mph. In the sequence, there is a short strong wind warning, followed by something hitting the Mini like a baseball bat. I believe that was just a freak gust exacerbated by the heat of the city combined with the cold ambient temperature. You can also see when it's shooting along, the power warning coming up which I believe is the drone fighting to stay in position. Back in the day, that kind of jello was caused by props or motors being out of balance. It could be obviated to some extent by using ND filters to slow down the rolling shutter but balancing was the real cure. I never hear about balancing props now but I wonder if that could be part of the problem. The balance could also be affected if the folding props weren't deploying correctly.

I've seen cases of fly-aways where the drone hit well over its normal maximum speed like this one did. I think the drones are capable of small bursts of high speeds in case they need to make an extreme maneuver to keep itself upright. So if there's a sensor error and it thinks it's being blown away or something, it might try to correct beyond its normal limit to compensate.
@Knapweed
@Knapweed 5 жыл бұрын
@@cbtcrushman I agree there is probably quit a bit of margin from the esc in emergencies, I'm just not confident it's about 240%. I do, however, agree that it would probably exceed its normal limits to try and stay in position or at least resist being swept along. Obviously it's open to interpretation but looking at the moment the quad took off, it looks more like it was hit by something rather than suddenly speeding up under its own power.

@@DailyDroning If they had to keep it at less than 250 grams, they had to compromise some place. In this case, it's the weakness in the motors and the underpowered batteries to save weight. In a windy condition, you lose. I can see a lot of flyaways involving the Mavic Mini, as opposed to larger drones. This makes me wonder if there is some potential for the FAA to crack down on unregistered and unlicensed drone/model aircraft operators.

The wind was 15 mph and my Mavic2 pro worked fine -- fine enough to go up and search for the mini. I have no clue as to what happened... the only other variables: prop guards installed & I did not have it in "sport mode". Temp - 45-50deg F. Battery - 80% at time of loss. Altitude- 350' approx. Prop guards installed and "payload" mode enabled. It was great.... until it wasn't. 😞 I have a whole host of dji uav's // tellos , Mavic 2 pro / Mavic 2 zoom / Mavic / and a few Chinesium generic drones. None have flied away like this. Sad.... it would have been great if not lost. We were evaluating its use for rapid deployment in firematic incident management. (untethered / in typically tough restricted areas / video feed sent to emergency management Command vehicle and distributed to all IC's via RF. This will be great for public safety IF my loss was an isolated case. (I'd hate to make the decision to GO when the number of units is so very high... we are looking to implement and deploy over 72 units countywide.) In other words
