Iqlas - sincerity for sake of Allah 1. Not seeking praise and appreciation and approval from others except from Allah. 2. Doing righteous deeds and prayers when no one else aware. 3. Dont do good deeds just to receive praise from others 4. Submission of heart, forbid evil and encouraging good

To be able to do bigger & better service for people for the sake of God one needs to focus on the praise and appreciation he can get from his peers. As it is the social status that can allow anyone to do bigger and better things. The obscure person in an obscure land who doesn't try to gain popularity among people will always be selected against in favour of more popular and more praised personalities to get bigger and more profound projects accomplished. Working to gain praise and appreciation of the people is the only way to gain their trust & therefore be of greater service to them. I think the argument cannot be made against seeking praise or appreciation by bringing to mind a wretched, evil and lazy person. Praise and appreciation are great goals to have if social acknowledgement is necessary for a task, and tbh most tasks are in need of social acknowledgement no matter where and what it is

I see what you mean and as I am not knowledgable I will give my two cents. First, the one who raises a person in front of the eyes of the people is Allah himself. In reality, one's actions don't matter. Our actions themselves are empty. The point of our actions is to get us closer to Allah. Allah sees the effort and sincerity and raises us accordingly. Therefore, if one for example ended world hunger but had an grew to such a status with an insincere intention its pointless, why? For two reasons; saving the world of hunger is not good in and of itself, it is good because it is what Allah loves, and he does not wish his slaves generally to suffer from hunger and poverty(unless it's for testing them and development). The second reason is that the impure intention would invalidate the act. One should be practical, yes I agree, but it depends in which context we talk about. For example, if there is someone as capable as you to perform that more profound project, then feeling jealousy over it or trying to become more popular to do it is pointless and a sign of insincerity. But if there are no individuals, then one should strive that greater position with the intention of seeking God's pleasure. If God selects you for that task, so be it, but if he does not, you do not necessarily miss out. Another thing to point out is what kind of actions we are talking about. Praise and appreciation for what? It is normal to pray the 5 congregational prayers in public, but for example praying tahajjud in public would be looked down upon. Why? Things like tahajjud are done in utmost secrecy. If i do a project like building a mosque, that is a public act, which is fine ,but my intention should be only for God. If I give charity, it should be private, but it can be in public if one has the intention to encourage others to do good and give too. So actually certain actions should be done in public and certain actions should be done in private. So that obscure person should try his best to serve Allah alone, if there is a deficiency somewhere in that society perhaps God will use that individual to fill it up or if not, then send someone else qualified. Essentially our actions are according to our intentions. Though if I am wrong somebody please correct me. ( I make mistakes :) ). Being of service to people is useless if not for the sake of God. I think God appreciates more that one gives half a date with a very pure intention purely for his pleasure rather than be of the greatest service of people with an impure intention.

@@mrs8768 the issue I have with that approach to life & world is the assumption that God has a detailed plan for the world of Humans and has taken it upon Himself to guide every thing to happen according to His plan from the very smallest to the very biggest. It creates a passive self congratulatory attitude towards big social activism required for real practical and observable change. Staying behind to see if there are other more qualified people to step up to a plate, relying on God to somehow manifiest the right words and actions through you and accepting things as they are because perhaps that's what God always wanted is not what God intended us to do. If we are to believe in free will then we cannot take that belief to apply for everything. Yes God has plans and He will guide things to happen according to His plan but not everything falls in that. The simplest question to ask oneself to prove or disprove that is asking about the current state of the world - is it exactly as God wants it to be? The answer is, of course not! As you have alluded to it in your response. So if God is not guiding everything to happen as He wills and He does not have a detailed plan for everything then it is obvious that God has left it for us to use our will power and initiatives to bring on the change in the world that will be in line with what God wants. And we have to play by the rules created by the Humans in the human world & understand that there are forces of evil working harder and more consistently against God's will. Now, you might agree with me up to this point but you will start disagreeing with me when I say the person who actually puts himself forward to bring the change may or may not be chosen by God and there is absolutely no way for anyone to determine for sure if God was the one who appointed him apart from just simply believing it to be so. In the past people used to believe Kings are appointed by God but we now know that vast majority of Kings had no God in their hearts. So believing doesn't mean it is true, unless the person can bring a Sign from God. Therefore, the person who puts himself forward must have social approval for it to go anywhere as no one man and God can bring all the change alone (God can of course He can but that is not what He intends). An obscure person from an obscure land who hardly anyone knows, anyone has heard of or has accomplished anything publicly and has always stayed in the shadows will never be able to accomplish whatever he is aiming to achieve for the sake of God unless thoroughly helped by God. Emphasis on the part "achieve for the sake of God" in that last sentence. No one these days gets an angel appear to them, an ayah revealed to or gets message from God but it is the person himself based on what he observes and understands decides to utilise his will power to bring on a change at whatever scale for the world to be one step closer to what God intends it to be. As God states in surah 13 verse 11 that unless a person has not changed what is in him, i.e. if he has not worked hard to gain social approval, God will not change him to all of a sudden have social sway on anyone. It takes years of consistent and tireless work to build the skills, networks and social resources for a person (or people) to reach a state they can implicate a change. So going back to what I said, if you have a vision, aims, plans and lofty goals for the world, the Muslim Ummah or even just your society then it makes no sense for you to sit back and say if God intends for me to be the one then He will guide me to it and if He doesn't then I will let whoever is "rightly guided" to do as they please. Thanks for your response btw

@@fraind6894 salam, I do agree with what you say, perhaps the misunderstanding came from what I meant. When God is in control of everything, I believe that means that nothing can happen without God's permission. That dust wants to fall from the counter top? It needs permission of God to fall in the first place. People elect a corrupt leader, God gave permission for that leader to rule, he did not appoint the leader, but he gave permission for that leader to exist in that position. Therefore I do agree, if necessary one should work for social approval, however, the difference is that the intention must be purely for the sake of God. For example, if I do X project, I must do it for God, whether I get social approval or not doesn't actually matter because I am doing it only for God. If social approval is a byproduct of that then fine, that is a blessing of God, but if I do not get social approval, then if I am sincere I should not be dishearterned at all. In the end, the only reason we should want to reform humanity is for God and seeking his pleasure. If I saved 5 babies from falling from a building but it was empty of God would that really be a good action? Actions are only useful if they would be for God. If there are any ends which are egotistic, then one should purify the intention of that ego. I feel like I am talking above my paygrade, but these are some thoughts I would like to share.

@@mrs8768 I think we are speaking cross purposes slightly. To state my point in the most simplest form it would be that gaining social approval is a utility and one can have the intention of attaining the highest social approval for the sake of God so that it can then be used (utilised) for bigger and better purposes, again for the sake of God. So, doing something for social approval in and of itself not a bad thing if the purpose is for God. Take for example money. One can say focusing to earn money, having big multi million dollar business etc are worldly and materialistic, but it is actually quite contrary to that. Money is utility and the more money you have the more you can accomplish. Of course God can help you accomplish anything without money. God can do anything. But we live in a real world, with real rules and real consequences. God does not intervene and make what is impossible possible. So if something requires a set amount of money then it will need that money for it to be accomplished. A perhaps more simpler example is that a house will always need a set number of bricks to be built and no amount of praying or having sincere intentions is going to make the house be built with less bricks. So just like money, and bricks, social approva is a utility and is required.

Assalamulaquium, so, personally I would reccomnned you should also try to see if you can help you're relatives or friends righteously and more. In the end, for certainly Allah SWT is the most forgiving and he saw you're intention, work, and so on as he's the All Highest, so he's give you more of a good deed. I'm not qualified to give an answer but this what i'd say. Another thing, I would recommend watching the Lectures by Sayed Ammar Nakshawani on Imam ali as and so on. Trying to understand the Ahlulbayte as personality so I could develop and aim towards what Allah SWT would like... Thanks for Listening! Hope it helped, Allah Hafiz

@@noraalexis3164 Assalamulalquium, oh yeah I felt that countless of times. Remember with hardship then come eases. My advice is Patience. Life is a brutal test, trials and tribulation comes but because of Allah SWT mercy he sometimes takes away trials and tribulation. I also recommend listening to Quran and Hadith E kisa and dua and so on, that's what I did when I felt hopeless and helped me mentally. Also when you do a good deed Allah SWT mercy is exalted he will do the unthinkable. Hope it helped but I'm not the best at answering but I tried my best. Allah Hafiz. You can ask me anytime btw.
