Hi Tara, I'm really glad you're not scared of a "manly" job. My only problem is that I don't see the vision and picture of what you want to build. Do you have a picture or drawing of the pizza oven? Or I had to wait for the finish line 😉 Thank you for sharing. 🙏🏻❤️

It's going so well Tara. Don't you dare worry about what we think of it. You're so kind to allow us into your lives and watch what you're getting up to. If you like it, it's perfect and we like it too. Loving seeing the house extension progression too. John always works around problems so well.

😂😂 Fifi off the cement! Funny fact...my neighbour is currently having a small conservatory built....well I own a cat.... He came in the other evening with ONE PAW with cement all over it... (You can see where this is going), I had to corner my cat and get cement off...and then phoned said neighbour having work done.....the next day she said, Hannah come here... *Goes over* Yep a LONE paw print on the corner of the base for the conservatory 😂 But you know what... Blue will forever be imprinted in the slab...and there will be a day when sadly he will pass...but there will always be the paw print...of Blues..😂

To make it easier to level it & also stronger that it won't topple over, it's best to do a dug out foundation. Any building project needs a solid foundation. I learned that the hard way.

Good morning Tara, I’ve been doing art, crafts, building with wood, laying bricks and tile at different times throughout my 73 years. When ever I am creating something I tend to divide it into three parts. The best, most rewarding part is the process of creating something. For me it’s meditative. I lose my sense of time and what is happening around me. The next two parts are just extra bonuses. 1. I’m personally happy about how it turned out and 2. Others like and appreciate what I have created. The lack of the bonuses doesn’t ever diminish the doing. So I hope you are feeling joy as you build your oven and I know I will appreciate what you have accomplished.

DearTara,I happen to know for a fact that MichaelAngelo while working on his master piece statue of David did not have two little boys hanging around, chickens to feed a vegetable garden to tend to or a partner/husband and family to prepare three meals a day for cleaning the house and doing laundry for three muddy men. However your building creation is taking shape I see, and and I am excited to see it when it is finished. Keep up the wonderful work and so whatever it looks like when it is finished you did it yourself so like Michael Angelo start getting excited as it will be great because you did it your way.

Tara! I can totally relate to that frustration you related to us. As I've gotten older I plan and prepare better but I used to jump in with all of me and then get very frustrated! Just remember that life is a journey and everything you do will be a learning process and one that will teach you for future projects. Also, most anything CAN BE FIXED! Love you and love your desire to begin building and learning to use power tools. I have been using them for only about a year and a half and have built some things I'm really proud of. I have had to toss a few projects as well and I just say, "well, that was a great learning lesson!" Lol, don't take yourself too seriously. Love you!

Don’t worry about what we think my friend…just remember you probably won’t get it right the first time although it looks pretty darn good to me, but the main thing is that you are leaning to do something new and practice makes perfect. It’s a pretty big project for your first try but you will have it to look back on after a few more projects and say Wow I didn’t do so bad for the first time! We love your I can do this attitude so keep on dreaming dreams and making them come true!❤

Love to see the ongoing creativity of John and now you Tara……I don’t think you should worry at all about what we viewers think of your garden kitchen build, because you’re giving it a go and that’s what matters. In a few months and for years to come, when you stand there cooking you will be able to smile and say I built this and that what’s important. Ps the grass is looking lush! Best wishes and ❤ Julie 😊

Tara I think you are an amazing human with a wonderful history in Marketing and traveling. Being a mom and sharing the garden, your home ideas, kids, recipes etc. Why on earth are you wanting to extend yourself into the building realm instead of just assisting john in the projects? Where could you possibly get the time and energy to extend yourself further woman? I being a single mom for my 23 year old sons life, I began in a few different industries and ended up becoming someone who bought and restored, rented and created nightly lodging and now trying to move to Europe. I would have given anything to be able to be that homemaker for my son. So as much as you feel you want to extend into the creating projects on the farm no one has that expectation. We miss you sharing your passions, your ideas, your creating of the videos and all that energy that goes into editing. So know we do not have any expectations of you and cheer you on. You don't have to. Just be there for john and john be there for you. It's a kinder world when we have passion for our roles and share them with our kids and hubby family and friends. I admire what you two have created. Crack on girl. YOU GO...we are watching and not judging at all....Gina in Upstate NY finishing my renovation and wishing I could just be a girl LOL moving to Europe...

Tara, the fact that you are prepared to observe John's skills and then have a go yourself is commendable, this is exactly how I learned when I had my finca. There is great joy when you achieve something new for yourself that, let's face it, most people wouldn't attempt themselves. However, long before the joy is the 'learning curve' and it can be steep and off putting but you have a strong will and this adventure will satisfy you beyond your wildest expectations. When you look at those sunrises and sunsets and feel that pulse of joy for your surroundings, take a deep breath of satisfaction and be proud of yourself, you are amazing.

The garden is beautiful! And Tara, don't worry about the pizza oven. I think you are doing a good job and at the end what really matters is the whole set and it will certainly have a lot of charm. Crusoe , as always, is a real helper. It was incredible the way he picked up the rocks and placed them in the wheelbarrow.😮❤

Look so forward to seeing what you are doing and glad to see Jon has to rethink some things too. Love, love, love seeing your two adorable boys in the midst of all the building and yet they are not really “in the way.” Caruso definitely mastered his bike already. Sawyer won’t be far behind. Tara…give yourself some credit….your pizza oven is coming along great…or will be great by the time it is finished. You are learning, you are not a trained mason. 😍

Hey Newbys it was lovely to see you all back at work on your projects. You are fortunate to have Joao as a neighbour. Between the chickens and Crusoe and Sawyer i don't know how he manages to get anything done. John's lawn and flowers are looking amazing. Can't get over how green and well kept the lawn area is. A perfect play area for both of the boys. Cheers until next time.

You should leave the long bits of wood on the porch which stick out the front so you can hang hanging baskets from them too frame the new porch. It will look so pretty when it is all done. Tara slow and steady wins the race when it comes to your own project, just give your brain time to digest each new skill you are learning so you won’t feel overwhelmed, it’s daunting looking at it when you go down to start it but each time you lay a course of rock you will improve, like you said you have all yr to get it done so take your time and enjoy this “me time” you have made for yourself, it’s exciting to learn new things with a little bit of scary thrown in of course 😉 but if you let yourself enjoy the process we will enjoy watching you create something of your very own from start to finish not matter how long it takes to get there. Sending love from uk ❤

Tara, congratulations to you for attempting something on your own. It is very satisfying once you step back and look at what you've done and are proud of yourself for something like this. I would like to give you some advice. I think it's kind of like what John was doing with the place where your mower is. You build a straight wall or box shape out of blocks or bricks and then you put the Rocks as facing on the outside to make it look like it's all been built out of the rocks. I think that would look beautiful. You may be able to take some of the cement that you've put on the inside and Chip it away so that you don't have to tear the whole thing down and then you can build the straight blocks or bricks on the inside of the rocks, but at least you're not to far into it that you would have a lot to tear down if you did it that way.... just a suggestion. I'm sure however you end up doing it will be fine. Keep up the wonderful work. You all are building a beautiful site for your family to enjoy and thrive on. I wish I were young enough to do something like you all are doing. 60 is a little old to attempt something that enormous and to look back and regret how I actually was able to raise my two children as a single mom would be silly and not be good for my sanity, with thinking back and saying....I wish I could have had it this way or I should have done it this way instead.......either way they are 30 and 25 now so they are alive and I guess I did it right. Much love to you and your beautiful family.

Tara, I don't have a clue about anything construction wise, but I admire your stamina and will to do that pizza oven. I've watched some other videos about laying concrete and one detail that caught my eye is that before laying the concrete anywhere you should wet the surface beforehand. In fact, I saw João doing that near the house, in this same video. I believe this will allow the cement to better adhere to the rocks. Keep up, you're doing great, and don't mind if it takes longer than expected or if you have to undo several times, until you see it's perfect for you. 😘Maria

Tara, I think you’re doing great, especially since this is the first time you’ve ever built something like this. You don’t have to strive for perfection as long as it meets your needs and works. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised when you’re done. Caruso really cracked me up this episode. He’s so cute working with Joao and riding his bike and then his conversation on the rock phone with Mario discussing building the James Bond house at the end was adorable. 😂
