I'm glad you're ok and survived the tornado power outage. If I could store a gas powered generator and gas I would. I don't have a car so I don't need the gas for it. I do have a few small solar panels which work great and I collect solar lights from IKEA. They work to charge on my window sill or outside, as do my small backpack sized solar panels. I don't have too much cash in general, but always try to have bus or cab fare when I have it. It's a good idea. If there was an EMP I have a few candles, but if you burn them, you won't have them when you need them. I can't deal with the smoke from oil lamps but think they're a great idea for other people. I have them for decoration. Perhaps I should get some citronella oil so they can be used outside and repel bugs at the same time. I recently purchased (from a thrift store), a forever flashlight. My theory is that since it has no battery storage or power connection to such things (It only lights up when it's being cranked), it should survive an EMP. If I likewise survive an EMP to crank it up, I guess I will find out then. Good ideas. Keep helping others.

Good video! I believe if there's anything we should have for for if/when SHTF it's a library of good hard copy foraging books. Gardens are great but you can have bad weather years, especially since the guv is modifying and weaponizing the weather now. Also, They will likely confiscate ALL prep food if it's not well-hidden or buried in the middle of nowhere (don't neglect to rotate, folks). Lastly, there are the marauders and just plain hungry people tring to feed their families. Many "weeds" have equal or superior nutricious and medical uses to garden plants and they don't have bad weather years as a rule.

Thank you for sharing! ☺ Yes, I agree about the nutritional value in many "weeds", such as Dandelion. Do you have a favorite?

@@ahomesteadjourneyWell, I'm hardly a connoisseur. I like red amaranth best for taste and lambs quarter because it's everywhere. I planted some japanese knotwood because it's the highest source of resveritrol that I know of, good for joint pain. Purslane is good and I bought sone seeds on ebay but guess I'm doing somthing wrong. It's supposed to be rediculously easy to grow and invasive but I'm doing something wrong I guess. It just don't go wild. A good stem yields a snack by fall.🤔 Have you got favorites?

@@jimketchum3169 I haven't tried many, but I do like dandelion a lot! I haven't had much luck with the ones I've planted, but the natural ones seem to do fine popping up everywhere lol. I also have purslane, but haven't tried planting it. Hopefully it'll go well once I get around to it 😅

@@ahomesteadjourneyI make old school dandelion wine. Just finished the last of a 5 gallon batch from 2019 last week. Sadly, too much going on to make any this year. Should've squeezed it in. I think my purslane troubles was from the soil being too rich. It grows good in well-drained sandier soil I think. Gonna watch a YT or 2 on it right now while I think of it. Good luck with yours!🤞🍀

A Berkey water filter is the #1 prep after a disaster, it was the most used prep during the aftermath of Hurricane Maria. I don't use any flammable lighting options , during the aftermath of Maria, a propane hose blew up, After that experience, I got creative and built my Emergency lighting system, I've never looked back.

Very good points! Thank you! I bought a really amazing lamp from Lehman's. It is much brighter than a conventional oil lamp, which I also have. It has a mantle like a pressure gas lamp has, but it doesn't have the pressurized fuel. So it isn't like a 100 w bulb that the pressure gas lamps are. But it is very bright, and puts out a lot of heat which is great in colder weather. It was expensive, and it is quite fragile. But for all of the heat and light it provides, it is great if you don't need to carry it around.

@@scottsyoutubeworld1824 I love Lehman's! I got a cast iron pan from them for over a campfire (it has legs) and it actually works in my oven because it's smaller. The legs fit right through the rack. I also got a great rechargable camping light which doubles as a bug light. It has a retractable hook for hanging and lives in my walk in closet. I have used it when the power went out to look for things in my closet.

Cash on hand. Almost no one who is not a boomer Carry’s or keeps any cash. We keep 5K in the fireproof gun safe. The generator means you need to store some gas. If you do get the good Wavian gas cans and treat it when you bring it home. We keep our 110 gallon tank of off road diesel for the tractor full and we keep 50 gallons of gas. Oil lamps. We have bought 10 feurhand lanterns and 100 feet of spare wick. We have numerous glass ones that work as well but the lanterns can be hung which we have done.

@@consco3667 we bought one of those little Honda 2200 gas generators and purchased a propane converter kit off ebay. It was easy to install and we have never used gas in the honda. We only use it with propane. Never using it for gas means that we can safely store it inside our car, house, or camper without worrying about fumes.

You survived a natural disaster with everything you have mentioned, and thats great. But none of that will do you any good when you are faced with a SHTF senario and you have to bug out. Cash will become useless, the electrical grid will go down, and there will be no running water. What will you do then, even if you bring these items with you, in the end they will do you no good. If by chance you can make into the woods the last thing you want to do is make noise that will give away your location, so your generator and gas will become useless. Over the last 3 and a half years a lot of bad people have crossed our boarder, people who hate this country and will have no problem destroying this country from within. Since our boarder has been opened up over 120+ food facilities have been burned to the ground, and this was not by accident. We as a nation are in grave danger of our infrastructure being taken out by these people who have come here illegally and our so-called government is not going to tell us about it. Remember: it's not if, but when, and it will happen! You might want to reconsider your survival preparations, if not for you, do it for your children. Peace and love, and may the true God of creation be with us all!
