Heart breaking all the tornadoes that touched down through Texas. We had one here touch down a town over. The storm itself went over us we had sirens going off, winds got real crazy before the rain.

In 2016, a tornado rolled through my street doing some damage. The strangest part was that there was not one watch or warning issued. In fact, there was nothing remarkable about the weather just before it hit. A longtime local meteorologist said he's never seen anything like it in his 30 years of doing the weather. I was sitting in my living room when I heard what sounded like a freight train rolling toward my house. I had all the blinds shut for the evening, so I got up to peek out the windows in the sunroom. Before I made it into the room, though, I noticed the walls were pulsating. I immediately wondered if it was a tornado because, again - no watches or warnings were issued. I raced to grab my 2 cats and headed toward the basement. Before I could get there, though, everything went quiet. It turned out to be an EF0 tornado. Thank the good Lord above, it wasn't more severe because it literally came out of nowhere. There was definite damage around our neighborhood, and a large tree in my backyard come within inches of hitting my house. I grew up in San Antonio, and I never lived in a house with a basement or storm shelter. It's unfortunate that many homes in TX don't have them. I live in Indiana now, and I will never get another house without one. We had to go down into ours a couple nights ago because of severe weather. I'm glad y'all are okay!

Wow.. thank you so much for sharing your story. I'm sorry that you had to experience that scare, but am also glad to know that everything turned out ok and that ya'll were safe! I agree about the basement situation here in Texas... I see homes now and again that do have the storm shelters, but you'd really think that it would be way more common. Good for you that you have one there in Indiana!! It really seems that the tornados and storms are just getting worse and more prevalent...
