Watch this before you begin any type of Goat fencing project. I'm going to discuss 4 types of goat fence that I've personally built and used. I'm going to give you cost estimates and some pros and cons for each one. Hopefully this will help you make a better decision than I did on fencing goats when I first started. Also we're doing our first collaboration with Fowler Family Farms and Bois D' Arc Kiko Goats. Check out their videos from the links below. Be sure and LIKE and SUBSCRIBE to both channels. as far as age for electric net fence I would want them to be around 3 to 4 weeks old before I introduced it. Hey Brett, Good instructional video. Makes complete sense. I've put up some similar fence around some large pens in the past - mostly for calves. And I've put up a fair amount of barbed wire fence over mostly flat and rolling terrain, but I'll be putting up this quality goat fence over a terrain that is mostly hilly and steep in places. Any suggestions for me? Also, I did see the model number of the Knipex wire cutters.
@addisonranch
@addisonranch Жыл бұрын
Yes when you go from hill top to hill top. Don't over tighten the wire. I usually tightened it until the fence was about 5 feet off the ground at the low point. Then I drove a pipe, pulled the fence down with my stretch bar and skid steer and wired it to the pipe. The grapple clips are a must for me when you're attaching the fence to your end braces.

@@addisonranch Okay, what about the position of the T-posts? Should they be perpendicular to the ground or put in vertically? I've had people tell me both ways. @addisonranch

@@braceyrice5413 I’m not sure on the redbrand. The fixed know refers to the way they tie the vertical and horizontal wires together. The fixed knot I use I good because of this knot but also because the wire is high tensile wire. It’s much harder to bend which is great but that’s also what makes it hard to work with.

Is there any reason you wouldn’t use a solar powered generator? Is it because it would not be powerful enough for the length of fence that you have?

Yes. Because of our brush and the length of our fence, we need more joules from our energizer.
@akavery
@akavery Жыл бұрын
OK, thank you so much! How do I find out how many joules I need for my length of fence? Also, do I need to use that huge metal pole for bracing? I don’t have heavy machinery like you do. The best we have is a post hole digger that we have used to put in wooden posts. I guess I had thought that we could put up an Electric fence using only T posts. At least this is what a guy at tractor supply told us that he does. Can I attached to a tree as one of the anchors on the corner? We are completely new at all of this and trying to give our goats more space to graze. We are currently raising Mini Nubians. Thank you so much for your video and for your help! I will be subscribing right now!
@addisonranch
@addisonranch Жыл бұрын
Hey Andrea, The brace is totally dependent on the type of fence. If you're looking at an electric fence you can totally use a tree for the brace. The tree will grow around the wire you tie to the tree so it will need to be retied based on that. Joules for the fence is a hard one. I would figure out how many feet of wire you will be electrifying and start there. Then get in touch with someone like Kencove Fencing and tell them what your doing, how many feet of wire and potential brush. NEVER under power your fence for goats.
