Thank you very much for making this video. Unfortunately I was a victim of the model training scam when I was 12 and recently another type of scam not mentioned in the video. I got an email from someone claiming to be a representative for Miu Miu Clothing. At the time I had never heard of Miu Miu. He said he found my business Instagram and wanted me to be featured in an upcoming campaign. One of my friends had recently been legitimately scouted on Instagram so it sounded believable enough to me that I would be scouted as well. He said it would pay about $2000 for a 6 hour shoot. I was pleased to find out what a huge brand Miu Miu is when I did my research. I should have known better but I wanted a big break like this all my life and at the time I desperately needed the money. I was broke and homeless. I wanted it to be real so badly that I ignored the little voice of my intuition telling me to be careful. They asked for my address, measurements and other information and I gave it to them. Another red flag they said the theme for the shoot was “railroad” and that they would be coming to a train station near me. I thought it sounded like a cliché theme but whatever because they’re paying me 2 grand. They sent a check to my house that was far more than the amount initially stated. I thought I got lucky and they stacked on some extra to cover travel expenses. Another red flag, the day of the shoot finally arrived and I still had received absolutely no information about where to go or anything like that. A woman named Mary instructed me to deposit the check and then give her the extra money for travel expenses or something stupid like that. At this point I think I knew in the back of my mind it wasn’t real but I had gotten myself into debt buying facials, scrubs, teeth whitening treatments all in preparation for the shoot. I was scared to walk away from what might’ve been an amazing opportunity. When the evidence could no longer be denied I sent Mary a nasty text and as you can imagine I was completely heartbroken. They never got a cent of my money all they did was torture me, waste my time and shatter my dreams of ever becoming a professional model. However I’m happy to say that months later after I told this story to my friend and her Mom. My friend’s Mom hooked me up with a legitimate modeling gig doing a paid photoshoot for a local company and it was really fun. I believe everything unfolds exactly as it’s meant to even if we don’t understand the reasons. Be wise friends. Learn from your mistakes. There are so many scammers out there these days!

Been through it all! Last year, I learned the hard way what a 'mother agency' contract was. I'm so blessed to have had a lawyer (even though it was after the fact) to help me through it. Please make sure you have a lawyer present or don't sign. If they see a lawyer as a threat; they had shady intentions to start. To be clear, mother agencies are not inherently bad. But in my situation, I ended up booking my own work - negating the need for them and costing me money & opportunities for nothing. So do your research.

When I was 14, my family heard on the radio that there was a talent scout in the city near where I live. I dressed up in a pantsuit, wore heels, and went. My family didn't understand that castings don't want the whole family coming, so I remember being embarrassed that my sibling came along even though she had no interest in modeling or acting. I sat for about 2 hours in a hotel lobby after an hour drive to the city. They eventually brought us all in to a room where they stressed how good their agency was. They said they discovered Ashton Kutcher, and so many other celebrities. They explained that they had high fashion models and actresses. When the casting finally started, there wasn't really any order. Even though I was one of the first people there, I didn't get a number, there was no place to sign in ahead of time. I was in the back of the line when we finally started. I watched them go "interviewing" many young kids, like 5, 6, 7 year old kids. They had lines to deliver and if they messed up, they moved on. When it came to me, I did mess up the line, but the man gave me a second shot. I was tall and slim, so I fit the basic criteria for a model. Later that day, I got a callback that I made it. We drove another hour back to the city. I arrived early and in the lobby, I saw one of the ladies involved wearing pajamas and clearly not prepared for a big event. The man that interviewed me took my mom and i to a room and sat us down. He talked more about how i cant miss this opportunity. I was supposely one of 5 girls chosen, so it made me feel special. He'd get me modeling right away for Jcpenney. He said how he was once a model and all this built up to make me want to model. They gave us one day to sign the contract and charged us $2,000 for us to sign up. Luckily, when I got home we were able to cancel it immediately, which was a miracle. I remember crying my eyes out for days because I thought I missed an opportunity. I then researched the agency to find practically nothing on it, then the interviewer. He said he was once a model for Prada, but there was no information on him at all. I was lucky that we didn't lose money on a scam and that I didn't get myself into a bad place. It took me about a year to really accept it was a scam. They built up this whole agency like it was an amusement park. They had an expensive fee upfront, and they built me up to believe they would make me a model. Be careful everyone. Even if it feels genuine, you should never pay upfront for an agency.

That sounds like a modeling school to me. They teach you stuff and after that you get to go to conventions like IMTA.
@minty07514 жыл бұрын
@@parkerasel8129 You may be right (I couldn't find any real information on google for them), but when I was there, they were selling themselves as an agency. If they said they would teach us something, it was tiny print on the side and not the main reason for signing a contract. You could be absolutely right though, and they were just awkward and bad at selling their business.

It says “If selected for Development, the talent, not the company will be responsible for covering any/all Development costs.”(which is a training program). I don’t like that I have to pay for training since I have no experience in modeling. The appointment is tomorrow and I don’t feel like going because I know you don’t pay for things like that. The modeling agency wants you to use their photographer and one that they picked know you just make sure that the contract that you signed does not say that they can use your pictures whatever pictures are taken by their photographer and they can take those pictures and use them and sell them to whoever they want as long as your contract says that they are not going to do that then let them take the pictures because these pictures are going to send them around to different casting places and we need pictures of you right now today not when you go home on your cell phone or on your professional camera we need them right now but that's how you make sure you read the contract that you know what you trying to be famous so you know you only live once and at a certain point you know if your pictures going to be out there your pictures going to be out there if your picture gets picked up from somewhere else and they're interested in still working with you they're going to get in contact with you and they're going to work with you

Sorry but you're leaving out a lot of consideration for points 1 & 2. Point 1 - 'IF' a model comes to agency with a marketable portfolio, and has demonstrated they have DEVELOPED skills, 'THEN' (and only then) they don't need any training. But 'IF' they have a great look, but no portfolio, and no developed skills, 'THEN' they'll need SOME degree of training before being suitable to send out on paid jobs to represent the professionalism of the agency and to satisfy the client requirements properly. It is truly an 'IF'/'THEN' scenario. Some many new models with a great potential look, but they are far from being refined enough to be considered professional worth spending money on. They don't even know how to conduct themselves on a casting or gosee, or the etiquette for mannerisms on the job. Point 2 - New models can't just use ANY photographer. Fashion and personality photographers are fine tuned into the industry that models are trying to enter. New models should not trust that just any portrait or wedding photographer will have realistic concept for what a genuine fashion advertising campaign entails. I see many Instagram photographers claiming to be fashion photographers, but they never say anything about the fashion itself. THAT is a red flag... And THAT is why most legitimate agencies insist you shoot with their preferred photographer for INITIAL test shots. Those INITIAL test shots from agency recommended professional are what gets a model seen by the very small and specialized pool of real genuine working fashion/beauty photographers that actually hire models for pay on campaign level assignments. YES... Shoot with the agency recommended photographer to start with. The ONLY models that don't have to do this is the ones who have already developed professional grade portfolios. My background is 42 years working with and hiring models for fashion editorials, catalogs, and beauty/fitness/lifestyles editorials and campaigns. Reconsider points 1 & 2. I'm not going to spend money on a model that has a look, but no training. I'm certainly not going to train a model on a paid job. I expect them to show up and know what they are doing to earn their paycheck. The ONLY way to do that is through some form of training. Some models need more or less training than others. Good luck to all. It's a fun business. But you got to be pro level if you want pro level pay. www.photoclydethomas.com

It's good you are giving this advice to help others to pursue modeling!!!!! I've decided to let it go; being passed the prime in my 40s it is time to move on!!!!!
@jamilgotcher54562 жыл бұрын
In smaller markets, modeling agencies need models in their 40s for lifestyle/commercial models. A lot of smaller markets agencies present an image as if they book lots of fashion work when their fashion branding did not come from actual modeling jobs but rather the portfolio photography the agency sold the model wannabes. Many of the models on their roster they don't even get jobs for, they got their money from the portfolio photography that they sold them to use their photographer. Modeling agencies in smaller markets actually get older people more work than younger models because the small market is commercial rather than a fashion modeling market. But they don't post the local casino campaign on their modeling agency website because that doesn't attract the younger models that they want to sell the dream to and sell them portfolio photography from their photographer only.

This sounds like a guy that has a modeling "agency" in NJ that asked me to pay $300 w/ contract and had me walk topless to prove I was "a true model" that wouldn't ruin his reputation with his big "clients". He was a freaking creep! I asked him what he was doing with the videos he recorded me of, he created a folder on his desktop with my name. After I realized that he wasn't legit but a creep taking advantage of aspiring young models, I asked him to delete the videos he took of me. Of course he tried to delete them in a room I wasn't present in. I told him to go to the trash bin to make sure it was deleted then he tried to gaslit me by saying "It's deleted, you can check yourself". Till this day I still feel like he has a backup copy. I would expose his agency and his name but honestly don't want to give him attention.

I recently got offered to work with PMTM modeling and they want me to pay $900 for acting classes from their selected coaches. This has been my dream since I was a little kid and I just want to find a legitimate agency 😢 I have good feelings about this one other than the payment for classes

Could you talk about "Model Management" cause i have the app but of course i can't apply to a casting unless i have a premium version of the app. It is a popular program so i don't know what to think

Question.what is they have done commercial work, like done national work but they ask that you take part in their classes?

You're going to be forced to shoot with a photographer who are you to tell us what photographer we can use work we hired him can we say that this photographer is just fine there's nothing wrong with him and if you want to be difficult then you don't have to worry about it I would say just from assumption from back here I will say something that they just do to see if you're difficult or not you know to see if those complaints that they might get from set no cuz these companies don't need anybody damaging their name by being difficult on set in the next time they try to bring an actor they're going to tell them know because the last two three people you brought to us supposed to take it tell us what photographers to use and I think it's tell us what were going to

So I signed up for an agency that I actually looked legitimate to me they called me 1 day or 2 days after and offered a test shoot the next day I was excited got ready they asked me to come with 3 different outfits which I did. So then I finished taking pictures with the photographer and I had to wait for the next stage which was an interview. I went for the interview and I passed the interview according to them. Then they showed me the pictures that the photograph I took of me and they showed me 2 Agency’s that’s wanted to sign me and I was excited. So then the manager then proceeded to tell me oh yeah there is this modelling program that I would have to attend and I was a little bit sceptical so then he gave me a form and you should like all the prices ranging from £300 to I think £2000 I asked him do I have to pay this now because I didn’t have the money at hand. He told me yes it important for me to pay now that I would have a website a portfolio with the pictures The photographer took of me and some legitimate modelling agencies I would have to sign up myself and so on and so forth so I made some phone calls and I got the money. I paid soul the guy told me that two of the agencies would call me which happened one of the agencies called me and was telling me that if I sign the contract They would help me apply for castings so on and so forth he offered me 12 month contract and a 24 month contract for the 12 month contract I would have to pay £75 a month and for the 24 month contract I would have to pay £105 a month but how does that makes sense? Because the other guy from the day before never told me that if I would have to pay a monthly fee for the contract so I just didn’t sign and I think I lost £300 now

Can you talk about the DCAMS of talent scouts where men are luring woman as to get them to a location, and abduct them for selling them off. It’s important these young girls know they must be with someone when meeting with an unknown possible agent. It may be scary but it’s not discussed enough. My daughter is 15 and just been discovered by Mfore. We are extremely careful.

what about comp cards? do you have to pay for those? and if so how much does it usually range from?
@FreshPepper4 жыл бұрын
Yes you have to pay for comp cards. It depends on how many copies you’re getting. But I’ve paid $75 for 100 copies in the past
@MindOverSin4 жыл бұрын
I thought that’s what agencies do, you get paid and then they also get paid by taking a commission fee so is this not what’s supposed to happen? Please lmk.
@HxWilliams4 жыл бұрын
Them taking commissions is one thing and completely normal, but asking you to pay up front for services or other bs which is what he’s talking about is something else entirely
