I have the same 4 way wedge and added about 2" to each of the side wedges. The wedges are 5/8" thick and after grinding the welds and sharpening the cutting edge, they ended up being about 1/2" Even though the weld was good, the stress on 1/2" broke one of the extensions off. Bought add on wedges 5" long and 3/4" thick. Cut off original side wedges and welded on 5" on each side and no sharpening needed. It works well and eliminated having to pull apart uncompleted splits.

Hello. Can the 4 wedge retract all the way without you stopping it? As in will it fit between the de-logging upright? Thanks.

How did it do?

How old is your countyline? My dads is about 5 years old now and towards the bottom plate, the metal sides that guide the wedge down have bent to hell. We've split some pretty big rounds and im womdering if its a defect in the welds or if these over time will eventually do this. Thanks!

I believe the ears on the side are so short in order to pass between the wood stops in front of the cylinder. If they were any wider they would make contact and cause damage to either the splitter or the wedge.

Zeke Maes I guess that would make perfect sense definitely overlooked that one lol

poor design, bark and wood chips get stuck under the edges and the power of the ram push up and bend the steel

It takes quite a bit more power to push that 4-way wedge through a log than the 2-way. As with any splitting process, the hardness of logs and power of the machine are major factors of success. it seems to do a nice job with your application.

I think this one was a poor design overall. Like he was saying the wings need to be longer but are not for whatever reason. Also if you look at other 4 way wedges the wings are offset from one another so that they all do not contact the wood at once. Specifically, it initially begins to split one part of the wood before the other wedges contact the wood. So there is not that much extra strain on the equipment.

what year is your splitter? I have the wedge downstairs but it won't fit on mine... i think i bought it in 2016... Gonna try to grind down the main wedge to make it work.

Yes, I have an older one and I made my own that holds on the sides of the original wedge

Nice four-way splitter head , one thing you said you don't like to bend over to p split wood so you split horizontally, watch your own video n count you bending over the log spliter to reach for large pieces you split , no good for ur back, try splitting vertical or up n down while siting on a big round log cut to your preferred hight ND p

Currently working up a 42 inch dia. Red Oak. Horizontal is not an option, at least for my back. Big knots as well. A quick 4 way might work, I'll probably fab one up,, Thanks for the idea, oz

Have you ever tried quartering them with the saw when they are so big? Much easier to maneuver.

No there’s not a reason for smaller ears. Wish they made one with bigger ears on it to. We have a 25 ton county line splitter. If you or anybody knows where you can purchase one like that one that slips on and off with bigger ears please let us know!!!!!! Thanks 🙏🏻

Has to be small because of the wood stops up front.
