I definitely found some of the deep recesses of the window areas on the door is a bit of a pain but flat areas and pillar were generally easy and it gives a great finish.

Your right, I used the 10mm insulation foam on the wide walls of my build before putting my insulation on top. If we did our build again, I’ll put it all over the whole van first, the floor, the walls and the roof 😁

Super van build mate, really enjoying watching this build series. Just wanted to say the insulation you put into the roof is close to perfect. If you spray glue and stick the insulation (like most people on YT) you lose the air barrier, which is a key component when insulating anything. While I'm no expert van builder, I have been a builder for 25 years and have insulated many houses.

Hopefully you can get it sorted! Sharp Stanley knife to cut around the gasket area of the carpet you should be able to just put it off and white spirit or anything similar which is going to dissolve the glue and not stain in the carpet. Then lots of scrubbing to remove the glue residue

Glad I came across your video. I have MK8 and exactly the same plan with the same materials. i wonder has the adhesive stood the test of time, is it not peeling off? Especially the self sticking foam. It seems to come off, from bendy shapes. I got mine from Vandalized on ebay which may not have the best adhesive but in hot weather most self adhesives get soft and come off. That makes me a bit nervous to use this method. Great video, thanks for sharing!
@MispronouncedAdventures

Generally it’s been really good! However on the more curvy steep sections I run a Stanley knife down the apex of the bends to relieve the stress in the foam material.

Hi Alex! Thanks for showing how you tackled the doors and bare metal. I'm currently stalling the insulation of the right hand side door (the one with the handle for opening) whilst i finish installing a pulley mechanism to open the door from a higher location..because Ford decided it's enough to have a small yellow latch at the bottom of the doors... anyway - i discovered that beyond the annoying moulded trim clips which leak, the handle also leaks on the inside of the door. Did you have this issue? (I've got the same model MK8 model)
@MispronouncedAdventures
@MispronouncedAdventures 3 жыл бұрын
I agree only one lad to the bottom is quite annoying! I’d be interested in seeing your pulley mechanism, that’s on my list of things to figure out at the Moment. hadn’t seen any leaks from the handles yet but I’ll take another look. I have sealed up the rest of the body moulding panels on the van but haven’t done the rear doors yet so relook at those

Hi great vid and thanks for tip about using stick on thermo-liner first. Seeing as it contains 7mm insulation already, how much extra insulation would you have put on top? Could you just use two layers of it instead - for ease of installation? Also I am wondering if you would have still used sound deadening, as it says it contains it already ???

Hi, great video :) Can I ask, on the doors did you go right up to the edge? or stop a little way in from the edge to that the seals etc still work. If so, did you put any edging around the edge of the carpet? or just cut it and leave it with a raw edge? thanks
@MispronouncedAdventures

I made sure I didn’t seal over the edge sealing area. Otherwise I think the seals will leak. As for the edge it’s raw ish. I did try and tuck the raw edge underneath to make it look a bit neater

Hi Alex. Great informative videos for me as I'm converting a mk6 L2H2 minibus, so many thanks. Two questions though. 1. Could you provide a link for the adhesive insulation please. I have 3mm non adhesive which is a pain in the arse. 2. Did you remove the rubber window trim and then carpet over the edge and wrap it before putting the trim back? Mine are on really tight and I don't know if they would fit over 2 layers of carpet. If they did, they may stretch the carpet leaving a really messy edge. Thank for any help you can offer and good luck with the rest of the build.

I’m glad the video has been of some help. Here is the sticky 7mm Close self firm insulation stuff I used. www.harrisonstrimsupplies.co.uk/MobileDetail.php?Prod_ID=57406 Although I removed the door gasket as you can see, I said seem must be a lot of space in those to put them back on over carpet. I didn’t remove the window hard trim as I really didn’t think they would go back on again. so I proceeded to leave them on and just cut them really close and neatly if I could using a mix of scissors and/or a new Stanley knife

Alex, sorry binge watching today... does that 7mm stick on stuff work for sound deadening as well as its normal use then or would you still use the heavyweight deadening from before? If anyone else reading this has something to add to this potential money saving topic I'm all ears! cheers guys
@MispronouncedAdventures

I think it will some add sound deadening used in large enough quantities as it’s foam. However I would probably still use the heavyweight sounding stuff in the small patches below it and then this foam on top

Re shower...I saw another video about the importance of using flexible pipe when attaching to vibraty things like pumps (to stop joints loosening). Are you happy about your flex, Alex?
@MispronouncedAdventures
@MispronouncedAdventures 3 жыл бұрын
It seems with the use of diaphragm pump & vibration issues is more for noise dampening effects of using flexing pipe. opposed to joint loosening in my case. Loosening joints would definitely more of an issue in copper pipe and compression fittings. Even though I’m using John Guest fittings which are not flexible like there flex holes there is still plenty of flex in them and the seals / joints are via multiple O-rings and plastic compression ring directional tiny metal teeth holding the pipe. Yeah pretty happy about the use pipe as it still reasonably flexible. That being said I have considered swapping out the immediate joints around the pumps to more flexible pipe options for the purpose of additional noise dampening
@constructioneerful
@constructioneerful 3 жыл бұрын
@@MispronouncedAdventures Yea I was wondering if John Guest was more or less vulnerable. All those bits involved in the joint.. but anyway you've got your eye on it. I just rewatched your plumbing video and you picked up on the issue in subtitles too.
