I hope you stay motivated with this channel because you are doing a tremendous job sharing quality content. I'm absolutely sure that the number of subscribers will keep increasing steadily as long as you keep doing these kinds of videos. Of course I would like to know about the sensor you are using! Does it work with any racket brand? Keep it up!

Thank you Martin, very kind words! It’s the nice comments like this that keep me motivated! The sensor that I have works in HEAD rackets, I know that Sony make something similar for Wilson rackets and Babolat have their own one too. I’ve really enjoyed using it!

What are your thoughts on practise volume? Perhaps as a ratio to hours played per week? How many serves per day would you or the players you coach hit?

Really great video, do you think you can do different ways to follow through on the forehand? Or different volley tips like wrist extension and so forth

Thanks Tom! I’ll add them to my list... I like the idea of explaining the follow through on the forehand, I think that there are a lot of misconceptions about it!

Good tips, thanks, that gadget is neat. Trouble is, as you say, if you have the wrong technique, practicing without trying to change it only engrains the bad habits! Most people have poor technique, including me so I gave up practising my mistakes and am on a serve rebuild (3 years in so far, and a long way to go).

Really good serve practice , Ashley 👍 Very encouraging to get me on court some physical and mental targets. You're way too young to remember Roscoe Tanner - he was my inspiration when I was in my late teens - I copied him setting up cans in the corner of the service box. - Phil

I just discovered your channel and the videos and I have to say ... it is fantastic. May I ask for one big favor for a future video - serve development progression for an adult rec. player. I can serve a slow serve consistently. Proper continental grip, but very little take back and small toss. This gives me good consistency. The moment I start adding higher toss, bigger take back, not to mention leg drive, I lose consistency and I get uncomfortable playing points with such serve. Could you please make a video sometimes on what would be recommended isolated, step-by-step progressions steps to add power to the serve without losing the key objective - getting it into the serve box. Thank you.

Serve must be practiced at least 2 times a week. It is the most important shot of the game

Your use of the Slinger Bag got me wondering--when practicing one's serve, is it best to practice with one's full serve routine/ritual? I use a Slinger Bag too, but I find that even the slowest feed setting is too fast to allow for my full routine...
@TheTennisMentor
@TheTennisMentor 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Walter, it’s a good point. I agree, if your serve routine takes a little too long for the slowest setting, you don’t want to have to rush it! What I have found helps is setting the bag in ball boy mode in a position where the ball bounces in the court in front of you. Then catch ball 1, hit your serve and then ball 2 will come out quickly afterwards for you to hit a fh or bh before repeating. If you still feel rushed, you’re better off just practicing your serve as normal, using your bag as a hopper!

@@TheTennisMentor , thanks for the reply; it sounds reasonable and should be helpful. My routine is relatively quick (just three quick bounces), but I was still feeling rushed. Thanks again...

Thanks for sharing these tips, Ash. Do you have any recommendations for how many serves to practice a day or per week and stay safe from elbow or shoulder injuries? (I am in late 40s, athletic)
@TheTennisMentor
@TheTennisMentor 3 жыл бұрын
No worries Edmon, thanks for watching! You ask a very good question!! There is not 1 answer that fits all, it depends on a number of things, but mainly, what your body is conditioned for. If you’ve never dedicated time to practicing your serves, and then you decide to go out on court for an hour to hit just serves, your elbow and shoulder won’t like it!! However if you build it into your routine gradually, your body will be conditioned for it. Think of it like running, if I wanted to train for a marathon, I wouldn’t train by running 26 miles straight away as I usually only run 2 miles once a month (my body wouldn’t cope). I’d start with running 2 miles twice per month, then progress to once a week then Each week I’d gradually increase the distance. If you do this with your serve practice then you should have no problems at all as your body will be conditioned and ready! I’d suggest starting with hitting 20 serves at the end of each time you play and gradually increase! I hope this answers your question?
