I’m a nurse at a retirement home and I have a patient that is 84 and she wears red lipstick every day and looks fabulous. It makes her look 10 yrs younger. My grandmother always wore red or bright pink lipstick, never nude, and looked great too. Nude isn’t always the most lively and uplifting shade. Great video Lisa ❤

As a fellow woman who came of age in the mid 90's I loved of your stories and looks but that last lippie in Velvet Jazz WOW it sent me back to those fun and creative times. I hate to sound old but I really do miss the energy, fashion, beauty, super models the music of the 90's. I am in my late 40s now and have loved red lipstick since I bought a Max Factor red shade in high school. I have started mixing pinks and neutral shades into my rotation and moving away from reds a bit. However, this video makes me want to wear red more again. Such a helpful video Lisa! My advice to anyone like myself who doesn't wear red lipstick often is to go for a shade that's more muted and neutral, for example Velvet Enchantment on me appears as a more natural looking red, which is great when I want a bit of colour on my lips, but I don't want the attention that comes from wearing a brighter red lipstick! 💄

Yes I love your video on red lips so they are not downturned. I use this technique all the time sine I always wear red lips. I wore red in my 20s, 30s, 40s and still in my 60s. It's my signature color. All shades of red, velvet, satin, matt, high shine. ❤❤❤

Where have you been all of my life!?!?! Thank you soooooo much for creating this video. I am a youthful 60 year old, just feeling inspired to start wearing make up for fun. I spend most of my days in rubber boots and overalls; but I've always enjoyed getting girled-up at any opportunity. I know I must have worn a little makeup back in the 80's and 90's when I was a career girl ~ i have about 50 shades of barely touched "bullets" in my mom's old valise; and I know I haven't bought a new one in probably 30 years. But I never felt good in makeup and haven't worn it in decades: foundation always felt like pancake batter, my eyelashes looked like fuzzy dead black caterpillars..........basically I always thought i looked rather clownish. But my lips!!!!!! I was blessed with perfectly shaped, full lips with a deep cupid's bow; and I've always loved the idea of matching my lip colour/vibe to my outfit. I just never seemed to be able to get the look I was aiming for. Your suggestion about using your lip colour for your blush is absolute BRILLIANCE! I will definitely remember that tip, thank you! I'd like to be able to look like I'm not wearing any foundation (I have pretty good skin ~ don't need to fix much discolouration; although I have started to notice a lot of darkness under my eyes now), shadow, or liner. So I am very grateful that you shared all of the products you are wearing and trialed. I will definitely check them out and watch more of your videos to see what you applied to your skin and lids. Great tips, thank you! My favs right now are velvet duchess and skyscraper rose, they are so incredibly flattering. Not connected to this video, but would love for you to do a video at some point on period piece makeup. I’ve been binging a number of Jane Austen films, the last one being sense and sensibility, and was fascinated by how they applied makeup on Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet. It looked like nothing, but there was a lot of skin-like pink around Emma’s eyes, and Kate had wonderfully natural looking rosy cheeks.

Tip for mature lips: use eye cream as a sort of "primer", give it a few minutes to absorb. It helps with little lines. I do this when I do my mother-in-law's makeup for special days ❤

The first red lipstick I ever tried was actually one from a giftset you recommended in a holiday gift guide years ago, and it was so bright, dense, so devoid of nuance, so RED red that, with my very white skin, I instantly looked like a clown. But that was the point of the set: to try new colors! I hadn't realized how much white pigment was in it and how unique of a shade a neon-ish/pastel primary red is. From then on, I've loved playing with red lipsticks, and often used that first one to dab a little bit of brightness in the center of others as a sort of matte highlight.

I love red lips and do not feel intimidated in the least by them. I have dark brown hair and eyes with a light to medium olive complexion. I never get any compliments when I wear nude or natural lip colors. In fact I often look washed out in nude or natural colors. Love the last vampy matte red on you as well as the Ribbon color.

Great video Lisa - what is the best way if you have ageing lips, such as mine when darker lipstick starts to feather and look horrid?! I did a blurred effect the other day to tone down the 'redness' and then a few hours later caught sight of the feathering - awful! Is a lip liner therefore necessary - even if you prefer the blurred look? Also, years ago, I used to blot, apply powder and then reapply my lipstick. is this technique out of vogue now? One con for me with a liquid lip is that I can’t bear not to use lip balm throughout the day or night! I like the third and fourth options, either with a blurry lip line or a crisp one, but with a regular lipstick I can tap on a little balm and add more lipstick if I need. I often like the color best after a bit of wear and a light application of balm! I like Paula’s Choice Lip and Body Balm with your Velvets. I tried the natural kinds with beeswax in, like Burt’s Bees, but the wax does some odd and unpleasant things with the lipstick, I find.
