Purchased: August 2023 - still works GREAT!I kzbin.infoUgkxxsUnXhGsSJLim_XnMHyQK0u3XVaW-CGn live in a studio and during the summer it gets scorching hot - really old building with no ac units. I can’t express how EASY it was to install. This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment. I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!

This video is older but i hope you see this comment because i cant begin to explain my gratitude to you. My house was 80 degrees at 11pm and expecting continued heat index well into the triple digits so i went outside noticed the compressor fan was not running but my coils were scalding) and started futzing about to find what tomorrows project was going to be. Found 2 capacitors, a dual run and a run oval (for the fan which had shit the bed). I thought it was weird to have them separate and i checked all the wiring diagrams and could not figure it out. Now its 0315 and running stronger then when we first bought the place.

This video saved my butt. A family member had taken the fan out to clean the coils and wired it up wrong when he put it back together. It was a 4 wire fan with two capacitors hooked to it, but since the big capacitor was the right rating for the motor (5 mF) I hooked the 4 wire fan up as a 3 wire fan with just one capacitor as shown in this video and it worked! Thank you!

If i have to add a small cap to a dual run because the fan is out, I move the brown wire from old cap to new cap and then make a wire and hook to common on old cap or contactor and run to the other terminal of new cap???
@acservicetechchannel
@acservicetechchannel 8 жыл бұрын
Yes correct, you disconnect the wire that is connected to the fan and attached to the existing FAN terminal on the cap which is the start wire over to the new run cap for the fan and run a jumper to the common.

Good video you’re the only one that pretty much explained it I have a GE motor on my carrier it’s older I have just a yellow and brown wire going to my capacitor from the motor and the only other wire is the speed wire coming from the panel box to a separate plug-in on the top of my motor which you plug in different spade terminals to determine the speed so I’m trying to plug in a new one that has six wires on it it has brown and white brown white blue redI think you’re pretty much explained it I just picked the speed wire which is a high speed and Off the brown and white wire and then the brown wire and yellow wire will go to the capacitor from what I’m understanding is that sound right?

We have a trane xe 800 weathertron heat pump. Replacing the fan motor. The guy we got new motor from pit a capacitor on the new one brown wire and brown / White wire. We have a black wire and a white wire. He said put the black wire and the white wire (purple on old motor) back. Dad doesn't remember where they go. The fan didn't work until he had the white wire on contactor and black as a ground. I turned it off cuz idk if it's right. Please help if you can.

Best to wire caps from the contactor direct. Go from T2 to the compressor and fan caps separately. Don't jump from one cap to the other for common.
@veronicasofia7544
@veronicasofia7544 5 жыл бұрын
I agree if you replace the motor and require 10 mfds fan capacitor why not insert a 10 mfds fan capacitor strap secure then wire the 2 brown wires to the capacitor and the yellow wire to the T2 side of contactor and the black wire to the T1 side of the contactor in that way you can give warranty to the customer that the motor will run continuously since the both parts are new.

One question, given that you had to replace the dual run capacitor (since the fan motor capacitance had changed) wouldn't it have been less expensive to go ahead and install the 2 wire fan cap? On the other hand, as long as you were there, and having to change a cap anyway, replacing the dual run can't hurt, as the homeowner now has a new compressor cap. Six of one, ..., I suppose.
@acservicetechchannel
@acservicetechchannel 8 жыл бұрын
I am mainly just giving everyone an option. You will need to work with what you have in the service truck. If the cap looks old, I give the building manager the option if they want to replace it anyway. They are very cheap and it would be the worst thing if you were there and then a month later the unit went down because you or I did not want to replace that. Capacitors go bad and very often. You can get 5-13 years typically with them and most calls you are on have units dead smack in the middle of that range. Thanks for the Comment!

Question.... could you just hook up the striped-brown to the common side of the capacitor, with out the contractor jumper?.....
@acservicetechchannel
@acservicetechchannel 5 жыл бұрын
You need the common of the capacitor hooked to the120v side of the contactor that gets connected to the common on the compressor. The other 120v side of the contactor is the run winding. Start from the cap gets connected to the start winding of the compressor

when I wired the fan motor according to the color codes on the schematic it worked but would start very slow and choppy then get up to speed. reversing poles of the white and black wires, and then reversing the motor direction wires so the fan direction was the same resulted in a fan that started easily and instantly (and maybe seems to run cooler). Any ideas why?

It sounds like that motor was able to run without the capacitor in play. Once you switched the wiring, it is possible that then the cap was correctly wired. What manufacturer condensor fan motor diagram were you following?

Interesting. I was following the diagram for the original unit on the inside of the access panel. I used an aftermarket A.O. Smith ORM5458B motor. I did not change the wiring on the compressor of course, though it matched the diagram. The wiring diagram showed the black motor lead going to the common on the cap which is jumped over to T2 on the contactor which is also the red wire to the compressor. The white wire was shown on T1, along with the purple from the compressor, and the brown on the Fan of the capacitor. (yellow wire from compressor on herm) Brown/white was capped off and not used. The capacitor is the correct rating, new, and tested fine. Motor started very slow and choppy. I switched the white fan lead to the C on the cap, black to the T1 on the contactor and boom, started up instantly and ran great (though I needed to switch the motor direction wires to get the fan spinning the correct way.) I'm assuming since it starts and runs well now that I should leave it, but can't understand why this made such a difference. The lead on the capacitor stayed the same throughout. What do you think? Happy Easter, thank you for taking the time to respond!

I installed a first choice condenser motor that has a black, red, brown, white, and a brown & white wire. My unit is a 3 wire hookup. The new motor list the red as (low), black as (high), and white and black as the line side. On the unit side the brown wire runs to the capacitor fan terminal. The red wire runs to the capacitor C terminal and to the contacts. The Black wire connects to the fan terminal on the circuit board. What would be the ideal connection for this condenser fan.

If you have continuity between the white and the brown/white the they can go in the same place. You would have to see what speed the existing motor was running at and match that and only hook up either the red or the black then. The other speed connector would get cut off, wire nut added and maybe electrical tape to make sure the wire doesn't fall off. That is if there is no spare terminal to safety connect it where it won't get powered but you are on the right track. Follow the wiring diagram, thanks

Problem with new fan motor. I have a three prong dual cap on unit. A one phase contactor. New motor has 5 wires on it, orange-yellow-purple-blk-brown. The old motor had three wires, black-orange-brown. I hooked up the new wires the same as old ones, now what to do with the leftover purple and yellow?

Is this a multi speed rescue type motor? Make sure to use the wiring diagram instead of colors. I would check their wiring diagram for replacement instructions, thanks Don!

why do you call the yellow wire common when the black and yellow both connect to a hot leg thanks
@acservicetechchannel
@acservicetechchannel 6 жыл бұрын
In this case the wire is going to the common tap which means something different than it means in 120v. This is 240v and on some switches and relays you will see part of the relay designated by c or common. In this case, one of the two 120v legs is going to the common. It is just a hot 120v tap that the voltage can start at. On the Capacitor, where that wire is connected is the c common, thanks Charlie!

what about the green wire what is it for? also when extending wires does any 14awg would do, or do I need a specific one? and what does it mean when the new fan motor works for like a minute then turns off? good vid thanks.

Are you saying that you have the voltage to the fan motor continually but the fan stops? That should never happen. The only thing that would cause this is the thermal overload inside the motor. If it is a heat pump then a pressure switch can cause this but just make sure that you are reading the actual voltage. To do this safely, I usually disconnect the compressor completely so I am just dealing with the fan. Green is a ground wire which should be indicated on the motor rating plate. You can junction a wire with the same gauge wire. You would read the wire size on the side of the wire, and make sure to keep the connection in the electrical compartment only and not exposed, thanks

Basically the brown capacitor wire with the white stripe should have 0.0 ohm of resistance with the common wire so you only have to hook one or both up at the part of the contactor that is connected to the c on the capacitor, thanks

Could you have 2 dual capacitors in one system? One powering the fan, the other compressor. For example, say you had a 50/5 dual capacitor. The fan side went bad. You didn't have another 50/5 on hand. But you did have a 30/5. Could you (temporarily) keep running the compressor off the old 50/5 capacitor. But run the fan off the 30/5, at least until a replacement came in?

A dual run capacitor is just 2 single capacitors in one package. So you can just use one side of it for the high value, and use another capacitor for the low value. In both cases, one of 2 sections would be unused.

I am reaching out to you for assistance with troubleshooting a Marvair Wall Mounted air-conditioning unit. The issue we are facing is that when we start the unit, the blower works initially, but after a few seconds, the compressor starts running and then abruptly cuts off. The reason for this appears to be that the condenser fan is not functioning properly. We have already inspected the capacitor, relay, PCB, condenser fan, and high pressure switch, and all seem to be in good working order. If you have any suggestions or ideas on what might be causing this problem or how we can fix it, please do not hesitate to let us know. We would greatly appreciate any guidance or expertise you can provide in resolving this issue. Time is of the essence, and we are eager to get the air-conditioning unit back up and running smoothly as soon as possible. Thank you in advance for your assistance and support in this matter. We look forward to hearing from you soon with any recommendations or solutions you may have. Your prompt attention to this matter is highly valued and appreciated. Warm regards,
