Hey Rock, I don't know your content, I just ran across your title in the feed but you seem like a open, genuine dude.....I run a channel thats largely "project" based. I have 1.1 million subs and 230 vids. Here's what I do...I spend most of my time vetting the subject I want to cover to make sure it has a high ceiling of potential viewers. I treat youtube as a search engine and make titles that are crystal clear, short, simple and searchable, I use simple, Bold pics for the thumbnails ( no lettering ). I do conversational voiceover with zero scripting. I always approach a video thinking...."it needs to stand on it's own" without my subs or me personally...so it can be found in the search ( by it's subject matter) and nobody needs to know who I am to get the value from the video. I hope this helps

If you check out my channel or my website, you’ll see that I’m a playwright and a filmmaker and a performing artist, so I’m trying really hard to draw from that experience to provide some kind of value or entertainment here at this channel.Still trying to figure it out, but it’s really been building over the last year, and specifically the last few months. @@RockWILK One thing I always tell people is to "squint test" their thumbnails. Squint your eyes till everything is dark and blurry and look at your thumbnails and see if you can tell what your seeing. If the thumbnail is just a dark rectangle with no distinguishable feature then the thumbnail is probably doing nothing to get the click. There is an argument to be made the thumbnail and title are more critical than the video itself. Think of the the thumbnail like the "package" your product comes in, and the title like the "label" on the package. You can have fresh roasted cashews ....but if the "package" is a cardboard box and the label says "good stuff" nobody will buy your cashews because they have no idea what's inside the box. Good luck

@ it’s weird to me, because this video has almost 10,000 views now, and the thumbnail is the same type of thumbnail that I’ve been doing, so I don’t really understand why this did so much better than everything else, but in any case, I’m also a photographer, so why not take the opportunity to make some cool thumbnailsif that might help? I’m not stubborn enough to think I’m always right, that’s for sure. I generally think I’m wrong. :-) Thanks again for all the advice, I really appreciate it.

Its encouraged me to stick with this channel and not start a new one. The thing about creators posting their numbers is that it’s often the successful ones who share. The reality is that a vast majority-probably 90%-of creators aren’t making much. That’s why hitting $30 in your first month is actually a major achievement! It might put you in the top 10%, which is something to be proud of. It’s refreshing that you’re being real and open about the challenges here. Honestly, the tone of this video-even with a bit of venting-probably helped it land in my feed, as I hadn’t seen your channel before. You might want to explore leaning into that authenticity more! There’s a niche for creators who highlight the raw realities or even critique aspects of the industry. I’ve seen a tech KZbinr with millions of views who essentially built his brand by venting about companies and customer service, so there’s potential in embracing your voice. That said, while success as a full-time KZbinr can be a tough goal, doing this because you genuinely love it is what really matters. @LilyGazou that does not surprise me at all Lily as KZbin is out to make me suffer on its platform. That said I hardly get notifications of the people I like to watch but rather get channel suggestions on topics I really have zero interest in. This by the way is one of the reasons many OG successful KZbinrs left the platform. They felt loyal viewers are guided and directed away from their channels by this random 'algorithm is helping you find your audience' nonsense. They have already established their audience and were losing their audience. I am often tempted to post more, but it does not really help. So I'll stick to once or twice a week, but if KZbin does not give me another big video I am fighting a losing battle. My watch hours are diminishing at such a rapid rate. It is demotivating.

My whole thing is that you should be doing KZbin if you enjoy doing KZbin. If it earns you money at some point, that’s awesome, but if not, it’s an opportunity to post videos for free. You don’t have to pay anything to post, to put up your work that you spent so much time on, you have the opportunity to have a daily diary to keep forever, or as long as the internet lives, I just think there are many upsides. It’s just a matter of how you look at it and what you want from it.

I think there are so many reasons why a video does well, but one in particular I've noticed in many successful videos is authenticity. Like this one. It's an outlier on your channel, and i think because its interesting and comes off as very real and genuine. A guy talking about a dilemma in a way that the viewer connects to. Relatable. This isn't required for a video to do well, but it does stand out as a reason one may. I've seen it over and over. A genuine look through the persons lens about an interesting or relatable topic or issue. I bet you'd do well if you got existential with your videos. Talk about life, learning, experience, struggles, regrets, hopes, big questions, etc. Everything else the same, camera setup etc, but talk about the heavy stuff and get real w it. You got the vibe for it. Just some thoughts from a passing observer, good luck buddy.

It’s your topic. This video will do well because of the topic just watch. Anytime you make a video about monetization or KZbin experience you get a ton of views bc it’s highly searched. Your typical content is not. We love the raw style but if you want to get more views you have to be more strategic with your topics and titles. I was making videos pretty similar in quality for years but my topics didn’t hit because they weren’t searchable. All my new stuff outperforms the prior 350 videos. I definitley think everyone has a market cap but you can definitely get more. Filmmaking channels specifically focus kn gear because it’s searchable. That’s why they don’t talk about their personal projects, no one is looking for them

Anytime you look at a channel look at their oldest videos then scroll through until you find the find their first “viral video”. It’s almost always an outlier video that’s more searchable than their standard content. These channels don’t get big because they’re shooting Sony it’s because they’re using Sony in the title of the video. Even your most popular video is why you own a gh5 in 2024. It’s not the type of gear it’s that you made it the focus of the video. In fact even putting the type of camera you use on these videos will increase views

Sorry one last bit, you have that Panasonic s5 vs Panasonic video which is one of your biggest videos. If you had actually made that comparison video it would have done even better. They gave you 3000 views just off search and title. You just need to be a bit more strategic but if you really look at your content and other creators you’ll start to see the pattern. You can’t look at their current offerings since now they have momentum

Yeah Wilk he’s 100% correct, the algorithm is listening to the words you say on the video and will use that to push your video, if your video is about a topic people are searching for with the retention numbers you’ve got it’ll blow, I’ve never had numbers like yours on any of my videos so imagine if you keep talking about topics people are searching for? The KZbin game is not easy but if we figure out that’s when we’ll see the fastest and biggest growth. I know a KZbin strategist and she always tells me how these big KZbinrs don’t make a video unless they plan out a really good one that’ll get the most views so planning for them is 75% and executing is about 25% while we’re doing the opposite.

Hey you popped up organically for me and I really appreciate this video. I feel very similar. I was doing really well right up to the point I was monetized and then it just plummeted! I didn't start my page for the money but it was a nice little added bonus to work towards as it takes a lot of work & effort to put together my videos. I'll still do them anyway because it brings me so much joy and I love that they inspire other people to move and dance....but honestly it has been a little disheartening.

I know how you feel. You are doing what you can. Keep in mind people may use ad blocker which stops revenue and the majority of small creators make money off using their channel to make money elsewhere. My current employer found my channel and offered me a job and greaay opportunity which is far more than I make here. You make a great impression and never know who will cross your channel! I always look at everything I do as me revealing myself to somebody for the very first time, and first impressions do matter, and I at least want people to know that I respect whatever platform I’m dealing with. I feel you chief. I'm not exactly sure either. I'm approaching 5 years on my second channel and asking how people even get 1k. I might just be a very slow learner in content creation, but it's still pretty fun. And advice on how to grow barely ever works. You listen, try it and everything is still the same. I see the potential for growth, but it seems like that growth relies on one key moment. One defining event in your journey. People say steady growth is better, but you'll never make a dime with it alone. You need a big pop. And it feels really out of your control

I feel like I had my “key moment“ and it really didn’t make a difference. I realize that as long as I put the word monetized in my title, that seems to get me more traction, which makes me sad because I could really care less about that word. :-) It’s funny you make this comment today, this video is kind of old already, but I’m making a video talking about this exact subject today. So, I’m a filmmaker at the end of the day, and that’s not really going to get you a lot of money on KZbin. As a matter of fact, it’s the opposite of what KZbin actually celebrates. But on the other hand, KZbin is a great outlet for so many facets of a filmmaker’s work, and I’m beginning to see the potential of KZbin for my actual professional filmmaking journey. I can see how this can be as powerful as HBO, Netflix, Showtime, etc. I really feel like so many people are here, and if you can get them to actually watch your films, and get paid in other ways on KZbin, I feel like it’s possibly a more sustainable way to have a career than to always try to worry about getting licensed. I have a movie on a bunch of streaming services and it makes no money even though it gets watched often. There’s gotta be a better way for independent artists. Thanks for sharing your experience. I have a channel that took me years to get monetized and once I did my views went down drastically. The only thing I can think of is youtube is oversaturating the videos with ads. I've had several comments where people are frustrated with all the ads in my videos. I've hardly made any money and I've worked for years at the channel. Not sure what I'm going to do at this point.

Keep going. I think your type of channel is about to be searched for. I think most people are over celebrity culture and 'influencers'. In my opinion, influencer culture is dead. This is the first video I have ever watched of your and I know understand your point of view, however, you need to think of KZbin as a marathon, not a sprint. I'm not a huge channel, but I know what i think is a great video doesn't really matter. What the audience thinks is a good video is all that matters. it seems you have a good base, which is awesome. Keep making the videos they like to see. KZbin will show it to more people. Another thing to consider is that not everyone is into the subject matter you make videos on. Are many people film makers? Sure, folks shoot videos here and there, but film making? That's very specialized. Be realistic and let your channel grow. You'll get there, but not if you quit.

Hi! Some things that will help your channel grow quicker and get more revenue: 1. Thumbnails need an overhaul (several others have mentioned this). You need to make them brighter and more colorful/interesting! 2. Make sure you are manually placing your ads. Leaving it up to KZbin's auto placement is forfeiting a lot more potential money. People who have manually placed their ads according to best practices see a good 50-100% increase in their ad revenue. 3. Update video lighting! Seriously, lighting is everything and it doesn't even need to be expensive or complex. Have a nice flood light in the back, and a softbox or two in front of you. It will do wonders for the aesthetic and also make your thumbnails look better too!

Just came across this. I have relaunched my Access database developer channel (talk about super-niche). Massive 36 subs (to be fair, just really got back into it 2 weeks ago) 😂 Only thing I say is - do it because you love to teach people and you want to share your experience -- not to make money. That's what motivates me. I see any monetization as an eventual bonus. That said - SEO is critical... I'm a database guy, so the easier it is to 'find stuff' the better. That said, YT has an algorithm that does God-knows-what. I'm a camera guy as well and I love your audio quality so, new sub from me!

Don't give up. In my first month after monetization I made $50.00. After that it slowly went up. By october of this year I was up to $175-200. Then I had a video that did really well. The thing is , I think you are doing everything right. It will get better , just be patient and consistent

There are scammers who will spam you the moment you get monetised. Ironically they all start by telling you what’s wrong with your channel but their own channels don’t even have more subscribers. People can also buy views and subscribers too. I need to build my Ko-Fi and Patreon pages too. This is a great video and I’ll check out more of your recent ones.

I've noticed that the KZbin videos that are doing well now are the ones where the influencers are being really open about their lives and telling all their private business. The more information you disclose about yourself and the more you dig deep and share the better it does. Not something everyone wants to do but those videos seem to be doing well. Also anything about KZbin, most notably how much you are making on KZbin or how to make money on KZbin, how much you made on KZbin last month, last week, two years ago as compared to now, how much you think you will make on KZbin next month...you get it.

$30 in your first month is great! I got monetised October 2023 and have had 1 payout in Feb 2024 of £69 and am just about to get a second of £74 (🇬🇧 The UK minimum payout is £60). As for superchats, by the time YT has taken their cut, converted it from £ to $ and back to £ I get about 40%. I certainly don’t understand the impressions YT gives out. Some weeks it shows my whole channel to only 200 people. YT has a global audience of billions! In my own feed I rarely get offered a video that’s hasn’t already had 50k+ views. How can we grow a channel if they aren’t showing it to anyone at all? I’m amazed I’m managing to grow at all. I’m a bit niche - female, English narrator of ghost stories - but my audience is wonderfully supportive and I love them for it.

But they will also lead u down the wrong path sometimes. Because those 60 commenters are such a small portion of who watches ur videos. I tried for years to keep pleasing those core subscribers and not wanting to let them down but my channel didn’t start really growing until I stopped worrying about those core subscriber’s feelings and started looking at the channel as a business. They might tell u they like a type of video you make but the masses of other people might not agree, if that makes sense 🤷 Anyways ur channel seems good to me so far from what I see so I hope u keep pushing forward! It’s definitely worth it once the bigger money starts rolling in! Just keep being yourself and those bigger paychecks will show up. Good luck 🤙
