Of course, having a basic sense of rhythm is required, but most people can learn to be good enough to enjoy themselves - maybe not to the extent of performing publicly, but certainly enough to enjoy the art of the dance.

I think that the drummer and the belly dancer deserve more credit than they got. The fact that she was able to dance with the beat and the fills took a lot of rehearsing. Believe me I have been playing the doumbek for 11 years and I am 13 (the drum that guy is playing) and playing all of that without adding something of his own and not going off timing is exceedingly hard. I respect both the dancer and drummer a lot for their talent.

Some of it is just being built that way and sometimes doing it from childhood helps. I practiced a long time in my 30's but I never was able to get as good with the body control, maybe if I"d started younger there would have been more mind-muscle-body movement.
