The markings on the statues could represent where to cut the beast for meat and how to dress the kill And or where to target for the kill They mightve been originally made by eldars to show their sons where to target when they can no longer follow on the hunt or simply before a hunt. Mightve been why the small statues ever became a thing to begin with

I like to think these were teaching tools. And the crosshatched patterns where the places to spear them, and subdue them. Perhaps these were the first childrens books. Depicting, not their ABCs, but where dad placed the arrow, so we could eat tonight. And also perhaps charms, to aid in the blessing of taking dinner, or defending the group. Very interesting, and we can only speculate. Thanks again.
@plushiebug599314 күн бұрын
That is also my thought, when I look at the cross-hatched pattern. Reminded of an inuit polar bear figurine adorned with 'ritual' markings that my father once showed me--pointing out that the markings corresponded nicely to thos eone might find on a butcher's chart for cutting up a carcase.

Matt- I believe the crosshatching represents a net, and these are binding charms, to hold the animal rather than kill it. The goddess of knots (and nets) would have been supreme long before some would even call us human. To tie a sick baby to yourself to free your hands WOULD be a miracle. Knots and nets would stand at the very heart of early domestication, when things were done at the spirit level as well as the physical level.
@YoutubePremiumMem21 күн бұрын
Nice guesses. But mainly bs.
@owlwoman91121 күн бұрын
@@KZbinPremiumMem From the caves of France to Mal’ta and Lake Baikal, there are many tiny signs of attempted domestication, from paintings with suspicious lines drawn on animals resembling reins or lip bridles, to actual used implements resembling modern horse tack. Of course this is all theoretical, but the Weaving goddess goes back to Neanderthal times, with the carved sign for net.. # in the cave. Either way- it is a fascinating thread to follow, into a time before OUR stories.

I think these are the most important type of item humans have ever created. Keepsakes given from fathers to children. Just imagine. Being gone for days, or even weeks, on a big hunt. Your family, while still protected by clan numbers, is lacking your presence and protection. The hunt was successful, but the butcher process takes time, as well as the journey home with a literal mammoth of a kill. You pass the dark evening time in front of the fire carving a bone. A gift for your children, so they can see the story you tell on your return, and proof that they never left your mind while you were away. Yes, I believe these carvings are a father's love.

Technically, this period was from early modern humans, but I agree that the Neanderthals were far more like us than they are generally given credit for and most Europeans are descendants of early modern humans who interbred with Neanderthals. There are a number of traits we have that came from Neanderthals including some genes that have been found useful in resisting a number of diseases.

At 1:09, I'd love it if they found in the next cave over a similar but different set and they all turned out to be pieces of an ancient Pokémon type game where you played your cave's set against theirs! And then we find out that places like Karahan and Gobleki Tepe were just giant, game gathering sites where your team sat at specific pillars, either picked on the day or carved especially for your tribe/clan, as everyone challenged each other in board type games because they had realised the futility of actual warfare millennia ago and were now all just gamers!

Impressive how they captured more the essence of the animal in a very live position (uniquely of that one species) ,instead of us today trying to represent more perfect lines or curves. Thousands of yrs later in Gobekli Tepe the heads of humans show prominent foreheads, temples ,cheek bones and noses,and almost nothing about the eye structure. I believe its us humans losing size of the cerebellum ,then increasing the lobes and going more into an objective mind

I’m not a stone carver but I wonder if the crosshatched areas are places where the artisan was going to lower the surface? They look like the area was too high and needed to be removed… And what did they use to make them❓
@mysiren445719 күн бұрын
In the Netflix series Ancient Apocalypse, it is suggested that these geometric cross patterns could come from the use of the ayahuasca drug, as it causes, among other things, visions of geometric patterns. The worldwide similarity of these x signs on ancient animal and stone images or buildings is very striking. Plants that gave rise to the same visions were probably already known all over the world thousands of years ago.
