I do the same. Poke the golf tee through your bobbin, then drop it down into the top of the thread cone. The bobbin rests on top because the tee is wide enough to keep from slipping through and long enough to hold them on top of each other. I never have to search for the matching color bobbin. Get the longest tees and stack a couple bobbins because who wants to run out?!

These are great. Now I need to come up with some projects so I can use them! Sheet metal under the cutting mat, different rulers to turn back the seam allowance and trim batting, mounting tape on BOTH sides as a seam guide, stair rail as a round presser and doubling as a clapper, thin cheap cutting boards as pattern templates. SO many useful tips in 12 minutes. Great editing quickly showing how. New Subscriber.

Because most people who sew are probably pretty creative, this may not be a new idea, but it might give someone the nerve to deface a solid wood dining room table. When my mother passed away, none of my siblings wanted her dining room table and chairs. It's the maple everyone had in the 60s and 70s. I already had a beautiful antique dining table but I didn't want to get rid of my mother's, so I turned it into my sewing table. It is round with two leaves that make it into a huge oval. After a moment of asking my mother's forgiveness, I drew a huge grid on it and then used a wood burning tool with a very fine tip to make it permanent. That gives me a workspace of 6ft x 4ft. I do a ton of crafting as well, so it gets a lot of use. I'm blessed to have a dedicated room for all my mess, so having to move this massive heavy maple table isn't necessary unless I need that room as a guest bedroom. I think my mother would approve considering how much use it gets.

@NotchesSewing 3 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing your story. It think your mother would be very happy knowing how useful you've made it! Did you have to raise the legs at all? I use bookcases all around as the bases for my cutting table as I like my surface to be high.

Hint for drilling holes in plastic. Use a “step bit”. Will not crack the plastic and has multiple sizes in one bit.

My best hack = I use cheap $1 store yellow sponges with the green scrubber to clean my cutting board. The straight edge is great for running along side the ruler when you have to trim off a little fabric or threads ❤

Of course baking parchment is great for working with iron on webbing or stabilizer.. One idea is to use it to apply iron on adhesive to a zipper , then just place the zipper and iron it perfectly in place. Same for shirt pockets.

Wow! Fabulous ideas. I so much admire your creative mind that is able to break free from the intended uses of tools and supplies and give them use in the sewing arena. You’ve inspired me to view objects for their unlimited and unique potential. I can only add one simple thought: I don’t bother with a thread stand nor a mug. I just stand it directly behind the machine and use an empty bobbin on the thread pin as the first guide.
