The first half of the kzbin.infoUgkx3ICSK6nSknaL_45CU2NmFSoXjarGMDiJ book is everything about wood: types, tools, finishes, setting up shop etc. The second half is all about doing projects for inside and outside of the home. The color pictures are helpful. After reading a dozen of these types of books, this is probably the best overall (layout, color photos, plans). Only detraction is that many of the projects use a table saw/router/planer, which are usually expensive and take up space, so the plans are less friendly to newcomers and the budget conscious. But I know I can use a drill, circular saw or a jigsaw to make the projects.

Assuming the maximum density of white pine of 31 lb/in^3, the weight will be 69.2 pounds. White Pine is what I used and I believe she did too. I calculated the weight since I was concern of being to heavy to move and couldn't find the answer in the comments.

Yes that is true. I’m following her plans for another table very similar to this one and so far I have a good amount of scraps of wood. So she probably meant that the lumber actually used is about $40. You can tweak her plans and minimize extra scraps to reduce the final cost of the table. 👌🏼 Hope that makes sense.

Hey guys and girls looking to make this table, amateur here and just finished up completing this table just have some pointers just in case someone plans on taking this project on and isn't 100 percent sure. so i first started by shortening the table, the plan calls for 46 inch table top length i actually cut it down to 40 saving 6 inches for my requirements, with that i had to shorten the side 2x2 fur strips which i believe are 37 inch in the plan to 31 inches, other then that no other alterations were needed. i DID NOT cut my X shape before i got to the step making sure they were made to fit just in case i had something off with my table. keep in mind on how much of an angle you can cut on your miter saw mine only went to 45 so i had to make a small free hand adjustment (be safe!) For the X, its tricky to get the angle right try your best i personally, being a starter in wood building actually bought an extra piece of 2x2 fur strip because its so cheap and i knew i would definitely need it. so some mistakes were made and multiple cuts were done but don't let that discourage you from tackling the project. you can actually leave the x out since its not structural at all but looks way better with it in. Other tip i have when screwing the table top to the frame of the table i had it laid out on my garage floor and actually had to do some calculating to center it as best as i can,( its a farmers table so when things are a bit off it actually makes it look better cause it fits the design) seemed like my miter was out of alignment and had cuts off by just a little so dimensions were off a bit. so when i put the boards down i actually taped them together to make sure they wouldn't shift around on me and then laid the frame on it and marked off exactly where it needed to do so i can lift the frame apply glue and then screw it on. Last major tip i have is if you do plan on staining the table and don't have any experience on it please search up multiple videos on the subject so you can get a grasp on every part of it. pretty much look into pre wood conditioning and what stains will do, how to apply, and what to expect etc. If you have any questions on actually doing the project feel free to ask away i will try and answer anything you need Also don't worry she makes it look so much easier in the video then what it actually is haha but thats the fun part, trying to get the table you want makes it all worth it, also if you get a wobble in your table don't worry mine has a slight wobble i'm just going to compensate with felt pads which i planned on putting under the table anyways so i don't scratch my floors, obviously if its a big wobble something is really off and you will have to check all dimensions and maybe make some new cuts. Thanks Ana White for the awesome video !
@deltaforce70263 жыл бұрын
I made this and it was my first time touching a saw. I had alot of gaps and uneven cuts and I realized I had very bowy wood. I think I'll spend the money and buy finished wood instead of construction type wood. If that makes sense

@@rodprimroseoiuujik6739 I googled it. It's what I was thinking as I watched the video, but I didn't know what it was called. When she was putting the second piece of the X on the ends, if she had cut half the material away from each piece instead of cutting all of it from the second piece, then the two pieces would have fit together like Lincoln Logs. That would have been a half lap joint. Most KZbinrs would do it with a table saw. I guess if you're doing it with the minimal tools that I have, you would do it with a chisel.

You stole that exact same coffee table design from pottery barn / Pinterest . Not necessary to say you “racked your brain “ to come up w a design that is not yours. Just say you saw the design and wanted to diy
@Romans828girl4 жыл бұрын
She didn't say she invented the farmhouse coffee table. She said she racked her brain to come up with a plan that was accessible to total beginners...as in, those of us who have very basic tools. She goes on to say that you can build this coffee table with just a drill and a circular saw. Most KZbinrs would use a table saw, which I don't have, and a pocket hole tool, which I don't have, and they'd finish it with their paint sprayer, which I don't have. If you're brand new to woodworking and have a limited budget, it's intimidating to figure out how to achieve their look with different techniques and tools than were used in the video. I may not have the skills to pull it off, and then I'm left with the choice of keeping and using this piece, and not being happy with it, or adding another $40 worth of wood to the scrap pile. I think the point of this video was demonstrating how to do it for people like me, and I appreciate that Ana took the time to do that.

Ana, I love your work, and I love your KZbin channel. I get a lot of inspiration from seeing what you and your husband have done to build your own furniture and save so much money. Regarding this table build, I am confused. A lot of other woodworkers on KZbin provide a means for the seasonal movement of wood, such as your table top. They seem to indicate that if you don’t allow for WOOD to move, it will crack. I saw that you directly screwed your table top to the apron without allowing for any movement. What is your experience and do you agree or disagree with the theory of wood movement?

Hmm, 40? So ... those tools, you stole them or did someone gave them for free, what about the space to build that table, the electricity to power the tools, the screws, maybe some sandpaper, what about your time? It might be free if you want to ignore all those things but if someone wants to buy it, just let them know that is 10 X40 $.
@fizbinsfire4 жыл бұрын
Another suggestion for those boards you attached at the bottom. You could have run 2 (1/2 ) in wide strips under the bottom and secured the boards to them from underneath instead of all those screws showing on the sides. Would have been a much cleaner look as well as rounding over those outside boards at the top with a router.

One small side note..the screws used in this video...i got the same ones from home depot...since am not an expert like Ana, ended up stripping a lot of screw heads..they are very delicate if u r not aligning the drill direction

That is amazing! My husband and I just bought our first home and can't really afford new furniture but my husband is very handy! So glad to have found good, easy and affordable plans for us to go by to fill our new home with beautiful furniture!

The only issue I had when building this was the fact that your wood list from Home Depot was wrong, the pricing was wrong and the diagram didnt match your video. I still built it, but it took me a while to figure it out on my own.

Wood pricing is going to differ in different parts of the country. Where I am the wood pieces were $1-3 more and really high for some pieces. I’m building the rustic coffee tables that she has plans for and a 1x12x8 was $26 at HD/Lowe’s which pushed it way it past the under $50

Love it! I always have an issue downloading plans on the site though. This one downloaded 36 pages? Didn't seem that massive a project. Lol.
