I still do this because she loves being able to grab whatever she's hungry for whenever she wants. We cook bacon and freeze it. My husband cooks about 6 pounds at a time on the Blackstone and I put it in freezer bags. When we need it I zap it in the microwave or lay it in a skillet to warm. It is then crisp. I also cook hamburger when I bring it home from the store. We buy several pounds and again cook it on the Blackstone. Only 1 pan or grill to clean. I put it in Foodsaver bags to freeze. Makes it faster to make chili, casseroles or spaghetti sauce with less cleanup and mess when you are in a hurry.

When it's time for a sundowner I place a slice in my husband's drink and a half-moon in mine, the plan being we know whose drink is whose. This plan has been known to go by the wayside after a second sundowner! I also cut them into manageable chunks for garnish squeezing, (ie on the side of the plate to squeeze over salads or fish) and freeze. They make great ice-cubes. I believe they can be frozen whole too, although I cut them into the pieces I know I'm going to be using them for later on. They are also identifiable if unlabelled. I parboil potatoes and put them in the roasting pan and coat in goose fat and tuck some herbs around them and they can go straight in the oven. I also make my stuffing from breadcrumbs collected in a bag in the freezer as and when. This is frozen straight into the baking dish. Same with caramelised spiced red cabbage. On Christmas Day there are no panics, pots, mess and stress! I was surprised about the eggs … I’m definitely going to try that!

We have a decent size freezer in a camper trailer. I LOVE cooking up meats at home like chicken thighs and ground beef and then freezing them to use right out of our trailer for very quick meals. This works especially well when camping with kids that keep you busy until the last minute before mealtime. I also pack frozen rice and noodles to add to those meats with canned sauces.

I freeze fresh pineapple slices .. fresh mango slices - whole lemons - whole onions in their skin - I live in QLD Australia and pineapple and mango are seasonal. They are a lovely treat when frozen and out of season. I have pumpkin slices in my freezer also. Going to try the mashed potato, cheese and corn after seeing your video. I don’t have the freezer space you do though, so it won’t be in volume. Thanks for the information, it has been helpful in these times. 🌻

Thank you for all the great information. I have been freeing the containers of goat cheese crumbles from Aldi, put in ziplock freezer bags. Wonderful taste still. I tried freezing eggs like you show. The yolk stayed in nice round ball but stayed solid even when I cooked it. Talked to the local Extension Service agent, she said to lightly scramble the yolk and mix it in with the egg white. Already have your eggs scrambled or ready for baking. 🐣

I learned about a year ago you can freeze celery. I chop it up and toss in the freezer. Then I have celery ready to go for whatever I need. Another great idea is freezing tomato paste. If you open a can but won't be using the entire can freeze in 1 tablespoon amounts on a pan or cubes. I also freeze entire ginger roots. It works just a well as fresh ginger straight from the store. I buy Vidalia onions when they're in season, chop them up, toss in the freezer so I can have onion rings in the winter.

This post reminded me of a video I saw on FB where this family buys bulk garlic, blend it with water, and then freeze them in ziplock bags to use for later. If you're not using a lot of garlic at once, I'd think putting them as ice cubes would be a great way of storing them for later use. I also found that baking your silicone molds/trays for 30 minutes to an hour in the oven at around 375F is the best way to deodorize them. I was skeptical at first, but it worked a lot better than boiling and steeping my silicone items in scented mixes/cleaning products to make them smell better. Your home will smell like what you're trying to bake out, but you'll know it's ready when you don't smell that odor anymore. It's saved many an ice tray.

I freeze a lot of garden fresh produce during the bumper season, when I'm too busy to can it. When I have time to can later in the year, there they are, ready to go! This is also great for when I have too small an amount to bother canning. Freeze all the small amounts until you have enough for a canning session. A trick I learned a few years ago for freezing my tomatoes: Cut a tiny X into the bottom blossom end of the tomato before freezing. As the fruit thaws, the skin will slip right off. Easier than blanching. Frozen tomatoes, thawed, peeled, drained and chopped, make great "fresh" salsa in the dead of Winter. What a luxury!

I freeze food in sandwich bags because they are so inexpensive, then I slip a couple of the sandwich bags into a freezer bag. This way, I can use the freezer bags over and over. Also, when I buy chicken or ground beef, I usually buy 1 lb. portions packaged individually and put those into gallon freezer bags. Keeps the meat from getting freezer burned.

Very inspiring, no-time-wasted video, filled with more info than my 70-year-old brain could retain with just one viewing! I live alone, fixed income, and am eating less to save money, and am freezing things more than ever before. I've been very pleased with cutting a peeled cantaloupe into 12 wedges, and freezing 8 of them in a plastic slider bag, touching as little as possible, and with most of the air squeezed out. One wedge is a serving for me, and I defrost in fridge or on countertop, depending on how soon I plan to eat it. I don't know how long they would last in the freezer, because I've always finished them by one month. They are delicious semi-frozen, like grapes, too. And now I LOVE knowing celery can be frozen successfully!!

Now I can make my jams and sauces without killing myself to get it done before they go bad. Also, when veggies are in season (broccoli & green beans mostly) a quick blanch and on to the tray to freeze than to the bags - we can take out only what we need. Works great less waste. Freezing cooked rice doesn't really makes sense to me. Uncooked rice lasts forever in the pantry. And cooking rice only takes like two minutes to wash and just twenty minutes in the rice cooker. That takes almost about the same amount of time to defrost a frozen rice, and you're not occupying the microwave which often are needed for other stuffs. If you start your rice cooker at the beginning of your meal preparation time, by the time you've finished cooking/thawing the main dish, the rice would already be done cooking. If you have leftovers, the keep warm can maintain that rice for around 2 days or a week in the fridge. With how often we have rice, the only time I ever need to actually put leftover rice in the fridge is if I want to make some fried rice. Most of the other times, it's a lot easier to just make fresh rice in the morning and let the cooker keep warm for the evening.

I love cookies and milk but I always bake my own because I have about six fantastic cookie recipes. Unfortunately it’s just me now so I can’t eat four dozen cookies. I discovered that I can make the cookie dough, roll it into balls and freeze them on a large cookie sheet for a few hours, then take them out and put them in a Ziploc bag squeezing as much air out as possible. Be sure to mark the bag with the kind of cookie, and the time and temperature to bake then put three or four in your toaster oven when you want a few cookies. You always have fresh warm cookies whenever you want them and the dough lasts for six months in your freezer.

Lots of helpful ideas. I started freezing in portions so that I only have to take out the amount I want to use each time. I started "cup" portion freezing method for myself. A snack bag is one cup, a sandwich bag is 2 cups (or usually one portion per person), 3-4 cups for a medium freezer bag, and a full large freezer bag for larger or slow cooker meals. Everything labelled before it goes in the freezer so that its quick to use. I have done the same with some of my pantry items especially if we are taking them to our trailer. So that method means I don't have to measure ingredients. Just take the out the portion needed at the time. I've saved so much time doing this. (Also in the case of dry ingredients I reuse the baggies for the same item again so not to have to throw away the baggies all the time. -for example spices, rice, pasta, beans type of thing.)

Egg shells, chicken bones, the parts of vegetables that get thrown out, used tea bags and coffee grounds, you name it. My trash smells better until I can get it out, and if the bag might break - I just have to pick up baggies, instead of hosing everything down.

@@Trid2bnrml1 . Great idea. I going to start doing that. When I save back the used up bags for icky trash, I'm going to put them in the freezer. Thanks very much for sharing this video, I enjoyed watching it. I'm from Cape Town in South Africa and I pretty much freeze everything you have mentioned as well as seafood, I eat a lot of that, also biltong and dried sausage, I think you call it jerky. Rice I do often as it is awesome for stir fried rice dishes. The one thing that I did not think of was eggs, I will definitely be doing that 😊 One tip I'd like to share with you is, not to freeze but any used cooking oil, collect and store in containers as large as 25lt plastic containers which can be used in a Burner (lots on KZbin on how to build) instead of disposing it, I actually have a friend who buys 25kt used oil from takeaway fried fish shops and uses it to run his car with, smells kinda fishy but believe me it works 😅😊

Thank you so much for this video! I grew up with my mom freezing brad, butter, meat, baked goods and other things she would make up like twice baked potatoes. They're watching various KZbin channels I have heard about being able to freeze cheese but I had not heard about being able to freeze cream cheese or cottage cheese. Your point about walking down the frozen food aisle in your grocery store to see what freezes well is a great idea. I often buy frozen fruit like sliced strawberries and blueberries as they seem to be much more cost-effective. I'm a single person household so I'm not always good at freezing fresh fruit before it goes bad especially berries. I was unaware you could freeze milk but I love this idea. I go through times where I won't go through a gallon of milk in 2 weeks before it goes bad. I will have to start freezing some of my milk before it spoils. I do have a small freezer but it is just enough for me. My mom would often chop up a whole onion and then would freeze leftovers of it so she had some for the next time she cooked. I'm intrigued with being able to freeze leftover lemons and limes I saw in another channel. The creator put them in ice cube trays and then froze them. She transferred them to Ziploc bags for portions of that can be used later. She did the same thing with crushed garlic where she would put it in olive oil and then put them in an ice cube tray. Once frozen she would pop them out and put them in a freezer bag. I think that's so smart! The one thing I can't figure out how to freeze is lettuce. I don't think it is freezable. That's very sad because that seems to be the one thing that I waste the most. But I love your idea of freezing eggs! I need to figure out exactly how long eggs are good in the fridge as I tend to buy a dozen and then I don't eat them all and figure out frequently that I think they're bad so I will just toss them. With the price of groceries these days you can't afford to waste anything!

Eggs can be used after the expiration date. To test them to be sure they’re safe to use, put water in a large bowl. Place one egg at a time in the bowl. If the egg sinks to bottom of water, the egg is still good but if egg floats to the top of the water, the egg is bad and must be thrown out. Eggs usually last weeks after expiration but do this test to be sure.

Also frozen grapes are a great alternative to if you want ice cubes in your wine or cocktail/mocktails

Good information; thanks! I've found over the years, when canning jelly, frozen fruit actually makes the jelly more flavorful. I think it's because freezing the fruit beforehand breaks down the fruit.

Hi Kimmy..my name is Candy. You are living my dream making videos. I love ♥ your tips on prep, planning and organization. I wanted to share a couple of important tips I learned about: FIRST- use a clean fork when pulling lunch meat from bags and containers. It helps your lunch meat stay FRESH much longer. SECOND When you cut your Blick cheese use a paper towel when handling the cheese then place the cheese into the ziploc bag using the paper towel again in handling. Do this each time you handle your block cheese and it will stay fresh much longer. Hope these tips help. Looking forward to watching more videos. Happy 4th of July!

Awesome video! I freeze most of the things mentioned except eggs, flour and bread (we dont eat enough to make it worthwhile and just buy a loaf each week) ... the things I freeze all the time without fail is browned ground beef 20+ lb at a time, I also make several Lbs of meatballs (cooked and raw) and freeze for soups, spaghetti meatballs etc ... over ripe bananas, we have a peach orchard about 30min away so we like to go pick peaches and Ill peel, slice and freeze ... spaghetti sauce, Ill make up and cook til its just cooked and not let it thicken up and freeze in portions so when I want to use Ill pull out, thaw and throw into meal and let finish thickening up, I tried cooking all the way like we like to eat and I felt it dried it out and changed flavor and texture .. I also like to make mixed veggie packs when things like broccoli and cauli flower are on good sales and will add carrots, zucchini and onions... OHHH and cookies! Ill make up 3-4 batches and will roll into balls and freeze, there is only 3 of us and a batch of cookies is to much but with making dough and freezing we can pull out just 6 or 9 and always have fresh cookies .... dairy items Ill freeze as it gets close to the date so we dont loose it and then use in cooking ...

There's rarely any reason to freeze bead. It keeps just fine in the refrigerator for weeks. I wouldn't personally freeze it unless I was intending to toast it afterwards as I've always disliked the resulting texture.

I’m so happy I found this! I just didn’t freeze a lot of things cause I didn’t know how to go about it. Thank you for doing this!! 🙏🏽God bless you!!
