Welcome to our immersive indoor cycling workout through the breathtaking Lake District, starting in the shadows of Little Mell Fell at Bennett Head, just on the outskirts of Ullswater. This ride promises an exhilarating combination of physical challenge and scenic beauty, perfect for those who want to experience the magic of the Lake District from the comfort of their home.
Our journey begins at Bennett Head, enveloped by the serene presence of Little Mell Fell. As we set off, you'll be surrounded by the tranquil, rolling countryside that epitomizes the Lake District. The path leads us towards the quaint village of Dacre, offering a glimpse of traditional English village life. As we pedal through, you'll notice Dacre's charming stone cottages and perhaps even catch sight of Dacre Castle, a historical gem dating back to the 14th century.
Leaving Dacre behind, we head towards the ever-popular Pooley Bridge. This delightful village, nestled at the northern tip of Ullswater, is a favorite among visitors for its picturesque setting and vibrant local atmosphere. Here, you can almost hear the hustle and bustle of the village square and the calming lapping of the lake's waters. Pooley Bridge serves as a gateway to some of the most stunning landscapes in the Lake District, making it a perfect waypoint on our journey.
From Pooley Bridge, we turn southwest, following the scenic route that hugs the shores of Ullswater. This part of the ride offers some of the most beautiful vistas you'll encounter, with the lake's shimmering waters on one side and lush, rolling hills on the other. As you cycle, you'll feel the peacefulness of the area seep into your soul, with every pedal stroke bringing you closer to nature's splendor.
Our route then takes us towards Hallin Fell, a majestic hill standing at 388 meters. The climb here is challenging, with gradients ranging from 10-15%, but the effort is well worth it. As you ascend, the panoramic views of Ullswater and the surrounding fells unfold, offering a visual reward that complements the physical exertion. At the summit, take a moment to breathe in the crisp, clean air and relish the sense of accomplishment.
Descending from Hallin Fell, we make our way to Martindale, a hidden gem of the Lake District. This secluded valley is a place of unparalleled beauty, where time seems to stand still. Our journey culminates at St. Martin's Church, a historic sanctuary nestled in this tranquil valley.
St. Martin's Church in Martindale is steeped in history. The current building, dating from the 16th century, stands on the site of an even older church believed to have been founded in the 13th century. Its simple yet enduring architecture reflects the rustic charm of the area. Inside, you'll find an ancient stone font and a series of medieval grave markers, remnants of the area's long history. The church's tranquil setting and historic significance make it a fitting end to our journey, offering a moment of reflection and peace after the exhilarating ride.
