Thx so much for giving the .40 cal and the .357 sig these tests! These calibers are ignored by so many gun channels, it is great that you break this pattern and examine their performance fairly!

I carry the .357sig round in my g31 EDC, but that .40 was moving. When i do carry .40 i use the 150gr nosler from underwood. People have kinda forgot how good .357sig and .40 actually are. Everything you see these days are 9mm, im not knocking 9mm, i have a g17 and g34 that are great guns. But for self defense, i prefer the velocity and foot pounds of .357sig. Thanks for another great video, and wishing you a wonderful day.....

Glad you’re testing 40 and 357 sig. most guys are just gushing over 9mm. They don’t give 40 and 357 the respect they deserve.
@ru2yaz33 Жыл бұрын
Most firearms channels make 9mm content. The early arguments were the .357 Sig and .40 S&W had too much pressure causing firearms to fail prematurely, and next arguments are they say the 9mm +p+ matches the .357 Sig (not true).
@AzAirgunner. Жыл бұрын
Lol I hear ya, I have tons of tests on the channel that prove that very thing😄. Those are some of my favorite to test, because I get/see so many ppl saying that +p+ is the same thing (power wise). @Gieszkanne11 ай бұрын
40 S&W has 35,000 psi. That is standard pressure of 9mm. 9mm +p and +p+ has more pressure than 40 S&W.

How so? In this case, the 40sw. had an energy gain of 30ft lbs energy over 357sig. I have similar sized S&W 2.0 M&P pistols ( 3.6" and 5" barrels with KKM 357sig conversion barrels, the 3.6 is actually a REM barrel) The results are always the same: 357sig is energy king with the 5" and 40sw. rules the 3.6" pistol.( provided you are using Underwood or Double Tap 135grn.

The 357 Sig bullet held together better and penetrated deeper because it is a medium weight for caliber bullet whereas the 135gr .40 is a very light for caliber round. Both would likely get the job done but the 357 Sig is also better at barrier penetration. For overall performance the 357 wins but if I were carrying a .40 I would load with this 135gr round.

Both are very, very impressive and are no doubt very effective if/when needed. It is interesting how the 357 Sig seems to have the advantage based on results in spite of 40 have 10 grain more mass and larger diameter at the same velocities. I prefer 155-165 in my 40 but I wouldn't be afraid to carry this. Thank you.
@AzAirgunner. Жыл бұрын
Thank you buddy!! I agree, I like the middle weights as well. I was pretty surprised too. Was definitely expecting that .40 to do a lil more but wow, those velocities are no joke out of that shorty barrel. Was a fun one for sure. Thanks as always my friend!!
@kennethferguson4283 Жыл бұрын
The 135gr .40 is very light for that caliber which negates any size advantages. If a .40 caliber 165gr round had a 1400 fps velocity it would be superior to the 357 Sig, but that would require 10mm power.

I stopped in the high Nevada desert today and let go a few mags in my Sd40.. It's my cheapest pistol. First mag of federal 180s were getting hung up (I've been truck camping in winter conditions up to the border of Canada). The last mag fed well. I was suprised how much my shit got jammed. Maybe the wet to freeze in my camping situation. I don't have a question. Your vids are great man. Thx for doing the work for us!

Great test vid! I dragged my M&p shield 40 out the other day, haven’t shot it in several years, and had a great new appreciation for rear pistol. Yeah, it only holds 6+1 with flush mag (I’m buying a Pearce +1 so it’ll go to 7+1) and it’s the same size as my G 43! I’m liking the thought of 7+1 40 s&w. 😎

Since you are about the only person still testing 357 Sig ammunition-thank you 🙏. I have 2 questions, if I may: How does the recoil compare between the .40 and 357 Sig with this ammunition? And do you prefer this ammunition or the Federal HST for 357 Sig? Thank you 🙏
@AzAirgunner. Жыл бұрын
Thank you, I appreciate u checkin it out!! The 357 sig definitely had more recoil, manageable, but I could feel a difference. You can see it in the slow mo. The sig had a lil more muzzle flip than the .40. Even with other ammo I usually get a bit more muzzle rise/flip with the 357 sig. Personally, the HST is my favorite for the sig, I do really like this 124gr also. It's definitely a tough decision, they both do great in there own way. My favorites for sig are hst, this 124gr nosler and the ranger t. I like em all but these would be my top picks. Thanks again buddy!! Plenty comin😁.

I think the 357 SIG bullet had more drag because 357 SIG original weight is 125 grains and the twist ratio works best with the original 125 grain weight. That would mean the 347 SIG with something about 4.5 inch and 125 grains is even better than other barrels even the energy numbers are same. At least 40 cal is a subsonic round and barell twist is for his usuall 180 grains bullets. It must be that way.....

If the 40 wouldnt curve down it would have made it also into the second block. To me these 135gr loads are totally compareable to the 357 sig.

The 357 is always going to penetrate more than a 40 because it’s a smaller diameter round, it’s a matter of physics, the larger diameter, the more resistance and drag the round receives in the ballistic gel. That’s why even a 22 round would penetrate more than a 357. But everyone gets caught up with penetration in gelatin, when the ft/lbs of energy is what’s more important in stopping a threat. And no doubt the 357 is a fine round, but by your own admission, you shot low when firing the 40 which caused it to hit the table and prevent it from penetrating the ballistic gel as much as it could have. You should have immediately corrected that mistake by taking a second more accurate shot for a proper comparison.
