Joel Sharman Most manufacturers have downloaded the .357 Sig, Underwood is only one loading it to its original design (125 gr bullet traveling at 1450 fps)...to match the .357 magnum in 4" barrel. The other issue is many manufacturers loaded the .357 Sig using 9mm bullets and that is why they fragment easily at the higher velocities...I think Speer, Barnes, Corbon, and Golden bonded Remington bullets are few that were designed for the .357 Sig
@TOBORE8THMAN7 жыл бұрын
Underwood .357 Magnum 125 grain XTP (Item #123) advertised velocity is 1700 fps. Through my Ruger GP100 5" barrel chronographs at 1760 fps and 1750 fps through my Ruger Blackhawk 4.6" barrel. Really not even a remotely close comparison between the two cartridges.
@coolvideo287 жыл бұрын
The Sig was never designed to keep up with a high powered 357 Magnum rounds just the most widely used/sold one at the time a 125 grain 1450 fps round and it can beat that. is that polycarbonate or is the acrylic? very different. They use layered polycarbonate in bullet proof glass. They do not use acrylic. I don't think polycarbonate cracks like that.
@Bonge855 жыл бұрын
If this is some kinf of polycarbonate it is not the strongest one, and it doesn't crack as you said. I have some experiencee, and I estimated that 1 sheet should take 150-200 jouls and I was guessing real PC wood have all bullets stopped on the 4 layer at most and that already 3rd layer would become a real challenge on deformed projectiles. often holes will close back in more.

Not to criticize your ammo selection or to nitpick, but you probably would of been better ofd with the .40 S&W Underwood 135-grain JHP that's rated at 1,400 FPS. The Extreme Penetrator was meant to perform better in soft body tissue although because of the low pressure it was loaded under. Just saying, wanna see .40 S&W get a fair shake because it 'doesn't suck' by any means.

The caliber debate rages on based on denim and gel and it’s not an end all it’s really step one. Step two is to add a bone with the same strength and density as the 206 human bones. I’m been both lucky and fortunate to get facts on this topic. Funny thing in this hobby when you try to help people some don’t want it like they just want to be right and we can have that attitude with sports or fishing or other hobbies but in some cases in this hobby lives are on the line! This one we have to get right. I will try and make a long story short on how I got these facts and touch on the findings. I’ve always been fascinated by ballistics and firearms I read and studied every book, research papers and articles on the topic I could. I went in totally unbiased on both caliber and ammunition because who gives a shit what caliber or anmo does the most damage we just have to get it right. In any case the first 8.5 years of my career I worked as a trauma surgeon in an ER in a violent city before moving to orthopedics for the last 10.5 years. Ironically after a gunshot victim passed one night on my table I went outside to clear my head and a officer approached me asking about the extent of the injuries and if he made it turns out he was a total gun/ballistic nerd like myself clearly for different reasons he was trying to stay alive nightly. Long story short when weapon were collected or cases we would get the information on caliber and ammunition used and we set out to collect data and fortunately another surgeon who was one of the best with 30 years in trauma joined us. So documented internal damage based on caliber and ammunition used clearly we didn’t see them all but we documented what we did see on top of that we conducted field tests on many other types of ammo using the above test then introducing comparable bone between the 4 layers of denim and the fbi gel block. The third phase was then car doors and windows with the denim, bone and gel nor for me and the fellow surgeon did the officer who’s captain joined us. So the field tests were compared to what we seen on the operating table then compared to ballistics charts and winners and losers in both ammunition and caliber. The bones we collected were either from hunters or slaughter houses I consulted a specialist at the hospital what would be the closest to human bone because the rib cage is clearly in the way for center mass shots. So a quick synopsis my colleague and I also consulted a bunch of other trauma surgeons to see if their findings matched ours as well. The calibers that do the most damage to the body consistently are 357 magnum by far the best I’ve seen then tied for second 10mm and 357 sig. with that said every caliber has a specific weight that works best for example 9mm 115gr or 40 cal 155/165gr. No matter what caliber you decide to protect yourself with look at a ballistic chart and see what grain bullet in your caliber provides the most FPS and energy. If you want more info as to why that is just hit me up I could type all day on this we have a ton of data. Now to anmo we were shocked to find out the most popular mainstream ammo that passes phase one the best would shit the bed once bone was introduced which automatically fails out of the test, I promise you we need ammo that don’t give a shit about bone! Some of the mainstream brands that failed for example HST and Hornady. Here is a few that passed all phases of tests with flying colors Underwood extreme defender, Double Tap Bonded DT, ICC Duty and Defense. Quick story I had never heard of that ICC ammo in my life even after all the research I did early in the process anyway it’s a frangible round that somehow even kicks and windshields ass then the denim then the bone function frangible in the gel block and STILL penetrated 7 inches but we weren’t shocked at that point after see what it did to this poor gentleman that was shot with it and that’s how we found out about it. If anyone would like more info feel free to hit me up our whole goal was for ourselves and any good person who is a self defender to keep them and their families safe!
@chadpuerling12764 жыл бұрын
BAD TEST! I love your testing/comparison vids but the wood blocks were poorly positioned causing the 45 ACP and 9MM to go thru several pieces of wood plus the plastic sheets while the 40 & 35 didn't. Check the 3:13 time line to see where each bullet hit then go back to 1:22 and you can see the 9mm probably penetrated tw o pieces of wood and at 1:33 the 45ACP would have had to hit 4-5 pieces of wood.

I'm not sure exactly what purpose this video is supposed to serve, since you used the lightest possible commercial grain loadings on the 9mm and .357 sig (115gr and 125gr respectively) but the heaviest possible commercial loadings for the .40 and .45 (180gr and 230gr respectively). This test would have made much more sense if you had used 140gr for the .40S&W and 165gr for the .45ACP. Everyone knows that velocity is what penetrates barriers, and so by using the heaviest possible commercial loading for .40S&W and .45ACP, compared to the lightest possible commercial loading for the 9mm and .357 Sig, you have absolutely skewed your results, intentionally or unintentionally makes no difference.
@johnryan66585 жыл бұрын
No, 140 gr 40 and 165 gr 45 would be too light. You want to match sectional density. An appropriate comparison would have been 124 gr 9mm vs 125 gr 357 vs 165 gr 40 vs 200 gr 45. All four of those have roughly equal sectional density.
