I really hate the advice to give unused items to other people. Some of them are unable to say no and end up with a totally decluttered space on their own, full of hand-me-downs. Do not make space for yourself and use the space of others as a dumping ground, this is selfish! I have to help my daughter with this problem quite regularely and when I ask, how all this stuff found its way into her home, it is always the same 3 people, who "gifted" it.

It’s up to her to say no.

I can see that. Also I hate the implied guilt of clutter and then the guilt to “declutter responsibly”. If I own it, I can throw it directly into the trash if I choose to otherwise I have boxes of stuff that I need to declutter responsibly.

That's up to the person being "gifted". If someone thinks you'll like something then there's no harm in asking. If you have a problem saying no when you want to, then you need to check within yourself. Not feel some type of way about the person that YOU[r daughter] got the "gift" from. Besides, it can always be thrown away if she doesn't want to be rude
