Today I managed to film the late 70s 6600 combine in corn. I was surprised to see this combine out in the field, and got some video. Enjoy!

This is an AWESOME video. Mainly, I love the sounds -- the throaty, powerful sound of the JD combine engine. Also the commentary "keep it low enough just to catch the ears" ... which was the same advice I got while cutting wheat with a Massey 750 (the JD 6600's competitor): "just get the heads ... try not to run too much stuff through the combine" ... not always possible in a bad year where the weeds were as high as the wheat. 40 years old ... but DANG ... she must have always been stored indoors, because except for the dents on the right side of the cornheader, she looks nearly new. Amazing combine and video. Thanks!

Still have grandpa's 4400. Dad always wanted a bigger combine but never got one. The year my dad died, she broke on me and I had no idea how to fix it. The year after th, I got a turbo 6620 at an auction and later got the grain tank extensions & a 6 row head. Such luxury! Since I farm alone, sometimes break downs and repairs take too long. My older brother, who is not a farmer, told me I need to get rid of the 4400. I said NO. Been doing research and asking questions. I now know what is wrong and I'm going to fix it and keep her. When you do everything yourself, a working spare saves so much time. Even if it is smaller.

Great video, that machine has obviously been kept inside and taken care of........amazing how long a machine will last with even minor maintenance and it will do everything a new one will just not as fast.

Heavy machines don't age like cars, hell trucks don't too. 40 years for a good mainteined heavy machine don't reall mean much unless its used all the time and many acres.

Nice video of a good ole combine.I have been running the same JD 6600 since 1990 , no plans to change now.I have never seen a 4 row wide head used as a narrow row. Does that work in down corn?
@OhioAgVideos
@OhioAgVideos 3 жыл бұрын
Not sure if it works in down corn, as I only Filmed in standing. It was modified in order to take the 4 rows at a time. Beauty of a combine though!

They narrowed the head down to 30" so it is effectively the same as a 4N. We took a 4W and converted it to a 5N.

Why is there so much downed corn. Especially in that outside row
@OhioAgVideos
@OhioAgVideos 8 ай бұрын
Probably just a combination of late harvest, high winds, and veriety. Could also be a nutrient deficiency. Just the way it is sometimes.
