IDK what species of owls you have in that area but in North California some walnut growers will have owl boxes mounted about 20 ft. high on poles to control the rodents.

People are not perfect, everyone doesn't think with a filter....usually these are genuine people, with, as you said " have the best of intentions. I watched the video and thought the same thing, it is a genuine quote. But to not just dog pile on this man, and really explain the situation. I just thought this was the most classiest, down to earth response you could have given. Thank You for all the information you share with the world.
