40 Years Later: The Legendary Journey of Cobra 221 at Bathurst

Celebrating the 40th anniversary of an incredible story from Orange locals Tom Rabold (the owner of Bullet) and Barry Parsons.
Back in 1979, they borrowed a rolled 302 Cobra number 221 from the Watson family and, with a shoestring budget, turned it into a racing marvel.
They repaired the car, gutted it, installed a roll cage from a Torana, and borrowed a motor from another local, John Zelukovic. They also borrowed a diff and gearbox, added some red stripes, and painted the number 35 on the doors and roof.
With these modifications, they started 63rd on the grid and took on the legendary Mount Panorama. True to their word, after the race, Cobra 221 was restored with its blue stripes and returned to the Watson family, who used it as their family car and even towed their boat with it. Remarkably, 40 years later, the Watson family still has the car.
This footage shows Tom and Barry's honor lap at last year's Bathurst, paying tribute to Cobra 221, affectionately known as "Millie." As you can see from the smiles on their faces, that lap 40 years later was truly priceless.
