I just got done ripping up my hands in a futile (and dangerous) attempt to wind a barrel spring. After about 3 hours of scratching my head, I decided to ask google for an image of a main spring winding tool and this video is what it came up with. I could have built this instead of shredding my fingers. Thanks for the ingenious winding machine!!! Excellent!

Brilliantly simple, practical idea. Many thanks for sharing this, and shame on the 2,000+ people who watched this, and could not be bothered even to click the 'like' symbol. Exactly what have you used on the end of the 'cranking rod' to grip the mainspring's arbor? (Looks like a chuck of some sort.)

Thanks a lot for the video. very helpful. I tried to take so a spring out manually and it is very hard work. Thanks for sharing. Best regards,

Good job ! (rubbing the crank on a candle would stop the squeaking noise without staining the wood with greasy material)

Very nicely done !!! Once you get the spring back in the barrel, how do you get the end cap to stay fitted in the barrel ? Thank you.

What does the inside of the barrel clamp look like? Did you recess grooves so it doesn't clamp on the teeth?
@yankrasnopolsky3 жыл бұрын
Look at my improved winders. I am using a brass clamp and Yes! the grooves recessed. I do not clamp the teeth. Thanks

A little bit of soap, or grease on the crank shaft would take care of the groaning.
