Watch it again. He didn't even push the damn stump through the bottom. There's still stump left and with the current grade he'll be getting called back out to finish grinding it once the landscaper comes in to remove the front lawn, regrade "finds the stump thats there" and is trying to sod the lawn. I work after tree guys all the time and they all do surface grinds. I then have to charge more to come out and do a full grind.

I agree. I had that identical grinder with the 74 HP Kohler diesel. I ground thousands of Oak stumps and I loved doing them because they chip up really nice. I always took stumps out. On a big stump, like that, all he had to do was grind 10-12 inches below grade. I retired my business this year. I hated doing regrinds because you never know what the previous grinder left behind plus the customer already paid for the job once.

Why did you only go to grade? That stump should have been ground 10-12" below grade and from the video it doesnt look close to that. In my area customers would be calling back for sure. Videos can be deceptive and there is some dirt throw as well. Just curious to see how others do it and why always learning. Great video and monster machine

Get yourself a Rayco and you won’t have any belts to replace. It’s all hydraulically driven. And personally, I don’t like remote control on stumpers. You can’t variably control the swing speed. If you’re going for time, I’ll beat you every time with a manually controlled stumper. And I might add ,with less damage/stress to the machine.

By the location and spacing, those trees were likely planted when the house was built. The late 80’s is what I’m guessing from the house and size of the stump.. Live oaks grow pretty fast but can live a hundred or more years. 35 years tops on these.

@StumpGrindingCheap

@@CC-nq7mp it is really hard to get that point across to customers. That's why my company would do a stump that size for maybe $100. It leaves very little room to even believe a customer could do it any cheaper renting. Because those $40,000 machines are about $300 to rent for the day and I'll take two days with that baby machine to do a stump this size.

@@CC-nq7mp In 18 years I've broke 1 window. Besides, I don't fix anything broken from things outside my control. My contract states this as I also explain this before each job. It comes down to either the customer rents a grinder for two days at $500 and break a window or I grind it in 10min for $100 and break a window. In both situations they have to fix the window on their dime but hiring me was $400 cheaper.

@@FROG2000 So your point is that it's cheaper to rent the machine and do it yourself? Big surprise. When you call someone to do it, maybe you should pay him? And maybe you also have to pay for the second machine we see in the background that's collecting the chips, and the guy driving it? Maybe you should pay for the transport of those machines to your property and back? When you removed those 5 stumps, how much time did it take you? Including the time spent finding a rental, doing the paperwork, getting back home with the machine, doing the work, then going back to the place you rented it from, the time cleaning it, etc. I feel like I'm explaining life to a child.
