Ask PT: Why don't Indian Railways construct elevated HSR corridors along the existing important Golden Quadrilateral and it's diagonal routes where a lot of railway land is present on both sides of track which is wide enough to accommodate the Elevated corridor and also future triple or quadraple expansion of existing track. Atleast 70-80% of this existing land can be utilised and 20% could be acquired. This can reduce the land acquisition cost and also bring down project timelines which would positively impact the overall project cost. This would also ensure faster commissioning of the project. If you look closely, the golden quadrilateral has a lot of curves and distortions. Besides, on either side of the highways, significant commercial and residential properties have now been built, so land acquisition wouldn't be as easy.

I fear it would tilt the rake itself at 300+ KMPH And most of the curves would be due to natural factors like mountains or lakes. Tunnels and bridges could be planned to tackle that. And for major curves acquisition of minor greenfield stretches of 200-300 meters would be ideal instead of several RKM right?
