Hello, I enjoy your videos. They are very informative. There is one correct. If you are age 55 or over, you do have access to your funds without the 10% tax penalty provided that there is a separation from your job, i. e. retirement or lay-off.
@OurRichJourney4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the addition Wesley!
@D-DPlayz4 жыл бұрын
Although IRS allows this, it does not necessarily mean that your company plan needs to comply with it. It is at your company's discretion. Some company plans will only allow you after your separation to take a full distribution or rollover. You have to check in your company's 401K plan if they allow partial distributions after age 55 and separated. Note that, if your plan allows it, but if you roll it over to an IRA, you lose this option and will need to wait until age 59 1/2.

Should you max out 401(k) beyond the match if the taxable account is what you will be tapping into first when you retire? What happens if you end up draining the taxable account because you didn't have enough funds in there even though you reached your FI number and most of the money is in retirement accounts? As long you don't pull out too much and earn less than the standard deduction, you can still pay 0% tax on the taxable account.

@@OurRichJourney I have seen the video. I may just not understand the 4% rule. Great video, thanks! Another thing to keep in mind about 401k employer match is that there is often a number of years you have to work there before you are "vested" and can actually retain that matched employer money. If you leave the company before the vested time period, or if you are let go, you will not get the employer match. That's why we don't consider employer match to be a very good reason to go work for a company. It's a good benefit, but not a guarantee.

@@jessie5026 I've been in the L 2040 for 15 years and only switched to the L 2050 last November. I was up 21% last year. I'm 41 and have about $400k in my TSP. I want to retire at 55 so I'm considering going more aggressive. Buffet says 90% S&P 500 10% bond. Bogle says 80% total stock market 20% bond. 100% S&P is Yolo. I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I could easily stay with the L 2050. I'm 100% S&P in my Roth and HSA and I have a tech sector fund. So I'm pretty bullish.

@Jessica Albert - Thanks for sharing your allocation and return!

@Mr Brooklyn - Thanks for sharing your allocation. In Bogle's three-fund portfolio, he also says to invest in international index funds - so there are a lot of opinions out there! :( BUT, it all comes down to your unique situation and what you feel comfortable with. Consider your time horizon, diversification, and risk tolerance and then also think about your other investment accounts (if you have them). If you have other accounts, think about how your 401(k) investments can compliment your other accounts. :)

I remember I had a 401k with a job many years ago and now moved and did not kept records of it. Is there a way to find out what company my old employer was working with?
@OurRichJourney4 жыл бұрын
If you call your old employer, HRO could probably give it to you (assuming they have a record of you having worked there).

Well done👍My tsp growth rate was 20.93%. Not as great as yours, but better than negative growth.😊

And 20.93% is still a fantastic return! CONGRATULATIONS!!!

What do you guys think about purchasing a low cost condo with a HOA
@OurRichJourney4 жыл бұрын
We've purchased condos before. We don't like HOAs, but it's typically part of purchasing a condo. :( It's really based on your goals and strategy!

Can you share your screen to show step by step how to open a retirement acct with Fidelity

Thank you for this and I just took a deeper dive into our 401k and did a review. We agree with everything you have said here. We were paying 0.15% in fees and seeing far less growth than the .04% fee in Index you have listed here. We are really working to max out everything that we can.

@OurRichJourney4 жыл бұрын
Wow! Congratulations on paying off your truck! Also, I missed part of your question above - Yes: You can invest in a Roth IRA if you're self employed. You should also look into investing in a Solo 401(k) - it's basically a 401(k) plan for people that are self-employed! :)

How do your taxes work? Since you’re invested in USA funds like VTSAX etc, how are you able to maintain your portfolio when residing abroad? When I checked with Vanguard, they mentioned they would freeze the accounts in that you can’t buy more but can draw from your investments. Any answers will be quite helpful, thanks!
@OurRichJourney4 жыл бұрын
Everyone's tax situation is different, but you should definitely research your unique situation if you decide to move abroad. Thanks for watching!

Log in with a VPN that shows your IP as being in the US. The broker can see where you are logging in from and can request proof of your current address.

Question -- Your formula calls for a year of expenses x 25, but my wife and I are 60 (and our savings generates income) so do you have a recommendation for our situation?

Hi - I absolutely love your comment and basically tell strangers in the supermarket they need to follow you ! Question- I have a work based 401k ( non-matched) that I’m not able to max out, I contribute to HSA and I invest in TD/Robinhood - my own stock picks. I KNOW I’m allll over the place. What should I concentrate on first if I can’t max out my 401k due to bills etc. ?

If I have 4 years to retire, should I invest in an aggressive targeted fund or conservative targeted fund? Thanks
@OurRichJourney4 жыл бұрын
Sorry - too little information for us to provide our thoughts. Consider your aversion to risk, diversification, how much you're investing, how much you need to retire, how close you are to reaching your retirement (money) goal, etc.

Can you tell me if American Funds investments are good because my 401k have only mutual funds from that company
@OurRichJourney4 жыл бұрын
Sorry - we don't have American Fund investments, so we don't know. Maybe other commenters can share . . . :)
