Can the Inputs A1 and B1 be diffrent? Like "5V - A1" and "12V - B1" = 12V Q1? Im wanting to use a 5V source to trigger it and have the 12V be the higher voltage output

@@woodzyfox4735 I don't think so, from what I have seen, usually in cases like that, the IC is powered and controlled with the 5V source, and the output controls a transistor attached to the 12V load. Usually I see datasheets saying something like that the input voltages shouldn't be more than about 0.5V higher or lower than the voltage range powering the IC.

Good to see someone explaining the basics of logic gates ! With the proliferation of microcontrollers like Arduino i was beginning to think that the need to understand how devices like logic gates and shift registers was beginning to wane .

That was very interesting to see the low output not being at 0 volts due to the LED forward voltage, I was not expecting that and I will be processing this information for the next few days! 😅👍

Yeah, there's a lot more to understand about different types of integrated circuit outputs than you would think there would be.

Nice video. I'll have to try your first circuit with one of the many many 74hc00s I have. I have to keep at 5v for those. Any other suggestions of fun things to do with NAND gates? :-)

NAND and NOR are both universal logic gates, so you can make all the other logic gates, and combinations of logic gates, with a bunch of either of them. So the options are probably unlimited when it comes to circuits you can make with a lot of NAND gates., I do google image searches of 74HC00 circuits and browse the results until I find one that looks fun to build and modify.
