Sometimes it's nice to keep it original the way it was made and enjoy it. Being so rare, maybe a restoration is valid to save it from getting worse or to make it able to last another 57 years. That's really up to you, but I wouldn't do anything crazy or overwhelming.

Thanks for giving me the early notice on this truck. In hindsight I would have been the first one to buy it, but being a 2wd, it wasn't the one I needed to complete my set and the best I could have done would have been to take the cab off which would have upset a few people, lol. In the end it's good that Brody stopped me.

Thank You. That is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen…. Although I love the idea of an LS and to make it a daily driver I agree that it’s better to keep and use it (some) as original as possible. I used a 1968 stepside in the late 70’s that ran on propane but was an unbelievable truck and I own a 1979 610B rollback. And several tractors. Love what you are doing. Too bad I’m in NH.

Seeing it laying flat on the trailer with no wheels and tires you get a view of what it could look like laid out so if it were mine it be really hard (for me) to not want to lower it and throw on a set of Detroit Steel Wheels. If rarity was a worry, which in this case is justifiable, I would probably just do things that could be reversed and keep all the original parts around. I think a lot of people lose sight of the fact that’s an option and automatically go to the “you’re ruining it” speech when in reality a lot of changes are a few nuts and bolts away from going back to stock. I’d probably leave the patina and put a real nice Interior in it. 🤷‍♂️

While I get why preservation and "patina" are a thing, and that it especially applies to something as rare as this, my preference would always be to restore to as near-new looking as possible. Within the limits of what an owner can afford, always. And YES, if I could afford to do what you do with these IH vehicles I would drive that 1600+ miles on a moments notice without a second thought just to save something cool and special! :) But nope, don't have anything close to the cash needed to do that sort of thing, darn it :(

I really hope you have the time to march forward with this project, kinda selfish of me. I worked on a NoDak farm as a young man and they had some great trucks that I dreamed of going back and modernizing when I grew up and had money. They just drove like nothing I had ever experienced. Unfortunately, I never did get finances to do it. Now I only know where they are parked in a tree-row. So little rust as NoDak has no salt, just sand. The farm is in Rogers, NoDak if you wanna try and rescue them I will help connect.

That appeared much harder than it should have been. He didn't specify the problem using the forklift. If you have good cribbing, Lift the front by the bumper enough to put cribbing in front of the back axle, if done correctly, you can raise the truck five feet by hand. There's a guy who uses the techniques to lift ten-ton stones and buildings.

1671 miles? That's all? You guys got off easy! We drove from west Michigan to Grand Island Nebraska for a Cub Cadet original with a Danco transmission and the original snow blower. The cool part was when we checked the serial number we found the tractor was built the same month and year that I was born. Hows that for crazy! As for the end product with this truck, I would do an off frame restoration but it wouldn't be a total show piece. Just a nice clean original looking truck. I feel some guys go over board to the point they are scared to take them out of the garage and what fun is it if you can't enjoy them! Keep up thengood work guys, I really enjoy your channel. Would love to visit you someday. 👍
