By the way, just in case someone tries getting upset about revving it on cold start, it was completely warm when I started it for the video. She's just likes a little foot play to get her in the mood

I've looked at hundreds of cam profiles and landed on this one for my 91 Sonoma. I just got a low mileage 96 5.7 Vortec LT1 that I'm in the process of tearing down and building. Of course I want my truck to be fast but it's a show truck so it's more important for it to sound like a monster. Is there anything special that you had done to the bottom end, heads or valvetrain on your 408 to get it to sound like that? Because I really want my truck to sound exactly like that. For now all I got planned for the LT1 is forged rods, pistons, .30 over. New roller lifters, valve springs, Roller Rockers, air gap 2 plain intake and ATM street/strip 750 carb. Do you suggest anything else before I put it all back together?
@VicinalElk44104
@VicinalElk44104 3 ай бұрын
@@worldssickestmedia2713 nope. Just flat top pistons. It was actually just a cheap eagle rotating assembly I put in it. I had a double timing chain set with timing adjustments on it and set my cam timing to retarded. Main reason was I wasn't planning on racing it, but I wanted a truck that was quick off the line and could pull if I wanted it to. Maybe that'll have a little bit to do with the sound, idk.

@@VicinalElk44104 yeah. I'm not racing mine either. I just want it to sit really low to the ground, be pretty and shiny and sound crazy as hell and do awesome burnouts. That's great info. Thanks for getting back to me.

If it likes foot play to get in the mood and starts that poorly when warm, then it needs someone competent to look at its tune

You might not see any more of the s10. My dad was wanting an engine and transmission to go into his old Silverado, so I left him my drive train and said he can do whatever he wants with the truck as long as he keeps the good parts out of it. Don't worry though, after I get back to the states I'll be posting videos of me putting together my 1969 chevelle and likely taking that to the track, as well as maybe even getting a pro street nova or something and building it up. I may even get another s10 like this one and build it to be more badass
@VicinalElk44104
@VicinalElk44104 4 жыл бұрын
And if you're interested in watching something like that, I'll go ahead and let you know that either my chevelle or whatever pro street car im gonna get, is going to get a 632 BBC with either a turbo setup or some nitrous, depending on exactly I wanna do with it. The 632 I'm gonna get is gonna make about 1200 crank hp naturally aspirated and probably upwards of 2000hp on somewhat low boost. I probably won't push it much higher than that but thats about the gist of it for a little while.

@@VicinalElk44104 Alright man, I understand that, tho it's sad not being able to see this beautiful Chevy S10 in action anymore, I really hope you can get your other projects running, like that big badass 632 BBC powered Nova or Chevelle you're talking about, and share a lot of that revving it, racing, doing doughnuts, burnouts, also even letting us enjoy the nasty lopey idle (cuz I think the idle would sound amazingly angry and loud). Thanks a lot for your reply and sharing those videos, wish you the best bro!

Nice truck!! Can the truck cruise around at 1400 rpm's on the highway with that cam or would it stall? Not talking about climbing hills but just cruising at 60mph ... Debating getting this cam or one step milder bootlegger one cheers!
@VicinalElk44104
@VicinalElk44104 3 жыл бұрын
I never tried cruising it. However, it should cruise fine. My stall converter was like a 3400 stall or something like that, so any time I touched the gas, the rpms would jump up to at least 2200 rpms or so. However, I had zero issues with keeping it running once it was warmed up. It idles at about 1k rpms mainly because that's where I wanted it to idle. I could've idled it lower, but it would've stalled going into drive sometimes. It idles at 1k fine though, as I said, so it should be fine cruising at 1400.

@VicinalElk44104
@VicinalElk44104 3 жыл бұрын
Oh the quick fuel carb is great. Right out of the box, it was pretty close to dialed in, and there are so many adjustments to it. I just wished the distributor wasn't absolute trash so it would've actually ran above cruising speed a little better

@@chrismedders7739 nah I haven't been able to. I've been out of the country for a few years now and only come back to see family once a year. This engine has since been pulled out of the truck and is sitting on an engine stand to go into my dad's truck.
@VicinalElk44104
@VicinalElk44104 3 жыл бұрын
@@chrismedders7739 yeah this is the perfect cam for you then. It sounds mean but is pretty street able as long as it is tuned right. Give the gas a couple pumps and it cranks right up without much issue. You do have to let the engine warm up a good bit before it's good to drive around. Otherwise it'll die as soon as you stop at the end of your driveway and you'll have to start it again lol

@VicinalElk44104
@VicinalElk44104 4 жыл бұрын
The driveability is pretty decent. Even though it sounds really nasty, it's not too crazy. It's a pretty mild cam. The truck has a b&m holeshot 3600 stall if I remember correctly. It is a little tighter than 3600 though from using it, probably like 3200 I'd say.

@VicinalElk44104
@VicinalElk44104 3 жыл бұрын
It should be in the video description, both the part number and heads. As far as compression, it was around 10:1. It wasn't a beast as far as power goes, due to the distributor I used having been a piece of garbage. However, I believe if it ran right, it would've made good power.

@VicinalElk44104
@VicinalElk44104 3 жыл бұрын
Because of the crappy distributor I had on it, it would break up past about 5k rpms. It was also running less than optimal up to that point with occasional stutters and shit. I basically had to either run it at idle or wide open throttle in order for it to run right, but I couldn't go high in the rpms so it was kinda a dog of an engine. I gave it to my dad though, so whatever he has planned with it, I'm sure it will be more badass

Because you said it wouldn't idle below 1000 to 1100 without dying in gear. Obviously you have too much of the transition slot uncovered.
