Hey just so you know they were wanting to avoid name dropping. May want to edit the video especailly as the player in question is stepping away from 40k. Also showing the team name as well likely isnt a good idea as the other players on the team shouldnt have to deal with potential fallout from the drama.

I think the sheer amount of misplayed rules informs that the player was in-fact cheating on purpose and was using those misplays as a way to hand-wave away anytime they are caught or confronted on anyone individual play. In a lot of games just one or two misplays like that can be all the difference, but when there's that many and it's an undefeated player? Yea I'm calling bushleague shenanigans.

I'm attempting my first ever tournament (casual, 1k 3 rounds) in a couple weeks despite being into 40k for several decades. My single biggest fear is cheating unintentionally in any way. I'm pouring over my WE index and the rules and my army details the past few weeks and from now until the day in question. I'd rather get battered off the park in all three games than even inadvertently get a rule wrong that benefits me.

More judges are needed for 40k to walk around the venue and police these issues. How someone managed to make it all the way to the finals without being warned or DQ'ed before that point is crazy. If GW is going to be providing prizing in the forms of golden tickets to Worlds then there should be more stringent oversight on the games as they are occurring. Have 1 to 3 judges for a 90 person event is unacceptable for any game. I am glad that action was taken but this could be avoided if there was a standardized judge program which I think is something the 40k community has called for for a long time.

The most important question with a 1 year ban is this: how many events does that cover? A 1 year all ITC ban is a lot bigger than a ban that has 2 GTs a year. The other huge contributor here is sportsmanship. I make mistakes too, but if I found myself miraculously at a top table and won by a misplay two things would be true. 1) my opponent would never have said sportsmanship was an issue. 2) the moment it was called to my attention I'd have instantly offered to reverse the game score. I bet I wouldn't catch a ban on that case. Genuine mistakes happen, but they always exist within the framework of the rest of your behavior

The problem with just talking it up to mis plays every time, is that just about everything you can do to cheat in this type if game will look like a misplay. Short of loaded dice and moving models when your opponents back is turned, its hard to prove. Thats why the red card system is the best solution. TOs need to follow through and playerd need to be less passive. If you arent sure about something ask to see the rule or call a TO.

As a casual player aspiring to be competitive, the sloppy movement in somewhat forgivable, if both players are playing by intent and agree that, for instance, a charge was supposed to be impossible. Playing by intent helps removes the gotchas that exist in a game where things can literally be decided by millimeters. The misuse of stratagems tho, that is unforgivable.

I think in this case it is clear. But I think one has to be carefull where to draw the line. Half of the specific examples mentioned could happen to anyone in a 6. game of the weekend. Forgetting to spend a CP, forgetting that a unit is battleshocked or even missplaying a strat in the wrong phase. Palyers should be given the benefit of the doubt to a certain degree, even at top tables. But again, here the case seems to be clear. Specifically using a strat after the hit roll and chating on moves is a huge red flag and is not something you just do by mistake.

In my opinion the lack of sportsmanship the TO mentioned should be the reason for the ban personally I would say 6 months with a longer ban for future infringement to allow them to change. 40K is a complex game and highly inaccurate almost every game I have watched on stream has a doggy measure or a misplay that could affect the outcome so you have to accept some of that but it should at minimum be fun to play that’s where the sportsmanship comes in, talking through a misplay talking out a possible measure issue etc.

I actually know the guy. He used to own a store before it went out of buisness. Hes been DQ'd before in at least 2 other tournaments for cheating and poor sportsmanship, once in ottowa and once in america, and would play in his own store's tournaments specifically to get ITC points and win the tournamnets. He would straight up tell newer players that got him in the tournament to "forfiet the tournament game, you'll have a 70-100 loss, and then we'll do a freindly."

Not knowing his rules is a black spot but okay. But too many mistakes and bad faith reactive responses for that to be the case. 1 or 2 rules sure. Whole thing? Nope. 1 year too light imo but its appropriate to disallow him from participating for the rest of the tournament year

It's easy ro do when the game system is absolutely bloated with rules and strategems. You are trusting your opponent amd thetr will always be one who abuses it. Guys like this were likely bullied and they use winning at 40k as a power trip.

ive had a few misplays recently, my general disinterest in a lot of the rules in 10th led me to misread/confuse certain rules, like I forgot that free strats only affect BT strats now (because I played admech and we don't really get free strats very often), didn't notice they fucked with the invuln saves and movement characteristics of several units several times, things like that. Not getting a lot of games in btwn local tournies has been a major issue here, but seriously, GWs rules this edition are so confusing with the rules being split up between dataslates and the codex lifecycles being short when it should just be updated in the rules. Hell i even got confused with how breachers get their rerolls (they just need a battleline) but i got confused w/ the sterilyzors somehow (need battleline AND the enemy on an objective for wound rerolls). Like, they even changed kataphrons from 6" move to 5" and kastellan robots from 8" to 6" move btwn editions for no other reason than to mess with people who know they move 6" and 8" respectively.

There are no players in the game anyway, what happens if they cheat, what happens if they don't cheat, some people enjoy cheating, some like to mess around, no one can say anything about it, if the company that wants the cheating to stop puts cheat protection anyway, this is not difficult anymore :) I am against those who cheat in competitive games, who cares if they cheat in other games or not.

Honestly, every single one of the cheating examples mentioned can be chucked up to a honest mistake caused by being tired, or misremembering... But there are just too many of them to give the benefit of the doubt imo. Especially if the player behaved badly as they said

Yeah for sure - everyone messes their timing up once in a while or misremembers a rule. But doing it on a bunch of stuff at the finals table is certainly cause for concern, especially if they had other infractions.

I have encountered "sloppy play" cheating in every game I have ever played competitively. Its the kind of thing that can be excused as an oops if your opponent is called on it. Players can pretend they are new to the game, or learning a new army, or perhaps try to play it off as if they are just plain dumb. To me, this kind of cheating is some of the worst, as it erodes faith in the game itself. Some players genuinely make these mistakes, and a few of them by a player are not a problem, assuming they are pointed out and remedied. It seems this guy used this method on just about every aspect of his game play. That is not smart, especially if you are playing on stream where thousand of players are watching, and its preserved for posterity.
