I won't even try to pretend I know the lore well, go to wh40k.lexicanum... if you want to read up. I'll say that the Valhallan was the least fun to draw (he just ended up a big chunk of coat). Praetorian turned out the best. Krieg and Cadian are my favourites, though I may have overdone the lines on the Kriegsman.

Not just country, also like military periods. There's multiple ones based on both US and Russia - like Mordian Iron Guard are basically Marines Blue Dress and the Katachans are Vietnam-era US troops, where Vostroyans and Valhallans are Tzar armies and Red Army, and I'm pretty sure there's more.

The Death Korps of Krieg seem to be based off of the German Empire whereas the Steel Legion of Armageddon are based off of the Third German Reich. These connections specifically being the trench warfate and artillery barrages of the Western Front by Germany in WW1 for Krieg and the genius tactics and usage of Armored vehicles and Tanks by Germany in WW2 for Armageddon
