I think I’d like to add a note to this conversation. There was an incident in one of the Ravenor stories, Playing Patience, in which one Blank met with another. Now one of the Blanks had been in the presence of someone from Ravenor’s retinue who didn’t like being next to him, but when the second Blank showed up - ostensible to kill Ravenor’s team - the non-Blank guy essentially freaked out in the presence of two of them. And this is funny because the two Blanks end up having a conversation about how rare it is to meet someone they have so much in common with, while the third guy is effectively screaming his head off. But the point of the story is that in each other’s presence, the Blanks didn’t seem to notice each other’s blankness, and even seemed to enjoy each other’s company. So maybe the idea of making more Blanks might be the right idea - If the majority of Humans were Blanks, it means the Warp couldn’t feed off their souls, and they would effectively starve out Chaos. Sure there’s the potential problem of getting around without navigators and everything, but the Tau seemed to have figured a way around this problem, so it’s not unreasonable to say maybe the galaxy would be better off if all Humans were Blanks, right?

The tau didn’t fix shit. Their method of ftl was to make short jumps in sequence, skimming the surface of the warp, it is incredibly slow and limits their expansion greatly, it would not work for the Imperium at all. Hell, it barely works for them. Which is why they invented the star-tide nexus. A true warp engine developed by reverse engineering engines from Imperial ships ... And they DIDN’T develop Geller fields. Nor did they develop navigators. You can guess how well that experiment ended for the first Tau sent through space using this new tech. Spoilers: it involves copious amounts of rip&tear and mindfuckery. It also involves chaos becoming aware of the tau and nurgle’s favorite children making a B-line for the nexus and the tau core-worlds, devolving into one fuck of a slaughter against shit the tau were absolutely NOT prepared to face until Farsight decided he would drop by to save their asses while telling everyone “I told you the fucking Ethereals were lying!”. Doesn’t mean they actually defeated the forces of Nurgle, just caused a momentary stalemate.

Also, true Pariahs are as rare among psykers as psykers are among regular humans. There is no way Malcador would waste them on SoS, who were doing just fine by being "second grade" pariahs.

The Pariah Gene, extremely rare mutation, can be recessive, producing blanks (those with no souls), or dominant, making a man into a true Pariah, a being whose mere presence has negative effects on souls of others. Arch talks about it in the video. Oldcrons would put anyone with a Pariah Gene through the process of turning their body into that made of living metal, creating their own anti-psyker units.

Null Nullion yes and no, he also took over the nene gesserit breeding program to make people with the “null gene” and spread them into the population, and the whole plan was to force humans to feel the need to expand and explore, and fear and hate stagnation, also deeper plans. But that’s the quick version. The null ships needed to exist to protect those without the null gene from prescience.

To make things even more confusing, there is also the “Black Pariah”. I was going to classify it as a 3rd category beyond even the ‘true pariahs’, but the black pariah is so ludicrous, it’s kind of it’s own thing. Actually, it is literally its own thing, since there is only one known black pariah in the entire history of the Imperium. It’s a weird, obscure bit of lore from the ‘Nemesis’ novel (which I think Arch didn’t like, but I thought it was great), and as far as I know, it’s not mentioned elsewhere, so probably just a one-off thing, but a thing nonetheless, and it’s not a one of a kind creation or anything, just insanely rare, so it’s entirely possible there could be more. Basically, it was a super pariah... or like... a double pariah...? It’s complicated... Strictly speaking, it wasn’t even a psychic null... more like a psychic negative... it wasn’t just immune to the warp, it actually repelled the warp... like the candle/flame analogy, where average people appear as a tiny spark in the warp, psykers are Iike glowing beacons, and blanks are just kind of invisible- this guy was like a vortex of nothingness. Like I said, it’s complicated,.. If you know Darth Nihilus from Star Wars (The Old Republic, the awesome part that even Disney hasn’t dared to ruin.... yet.... and if they do, so help me. Also, Revan did nothing wrong!!) basically the same idea- including the apocalyptic level shenanigans these dudes were capable of. Among other things, he could naturally do all of the stuff that the Culexus were capable of when using their funky skull hats, except more powerful, and somehow he could use it against *other* pariahs, as shown when he obliterated the most powerful Culexus assassin in the galaxy with magic laser beams from eyes, which.... makes absolutely no goddamn sense, but hey- details!- after which he BTFO’d her remaining team composed of the best operatives from every other Assassin Temple (a team formed with the intention of killing fucking Horus- which they actually could’ve pulled off if Horus didn’t cheat with chaos hax, and the alleged best sniper in the galaxy had remembered to confirm the target *before* pulling the trigger... which I’m pretty sure they cover in ‘Shooting Dudes 101’ at Vindicare University... but hey- details!- again...) Also, it’s basically confirmed that he could’ve killed The Emprah, probably without breaking a sweat, and possibly from *across the galaxy* ... So, yeah... That book was kinda weird... But it was still really cool and unique. Almost like an Ocean’s Eleven thing where the super secret Grand Master of the Officio Assassinorum (Spoiler alert: it’s Malcador. It’s always Malcador. Malcador did everything. Seriously, if Big E wasn’t a complete dumbass fucking up everything and relying on Malcador to un-fuck everything, he totally could’ve conquered the galaxy by himself.) - was all like “Yo... I got a job... the big one... but I’m gonna need a crew...”, and then Papa Vindicare was all like “I know just the guy...”. But there’s also a murder mystery side plot. It’s definitely weird, but it was fun. And it *wasn’t* about the goddamn Spess Mehreens. So there’s that...

The black pariah supports the notion that blanks don’t lack souls or a connect to the warp. It’s just a negative or opposite connect. A flipping of the script. The deamon had its entire energy flipped, becoming the first negative deamon ever to merge with the black pariah. This leads me to believe that is the vast majority of humans suddenly became blanks the entire warp would have its energy swapped. Which I bet would destroy chaos and return the warp to a primordial state. Thou that’s just theory crafting.

Jurgen is a bit of a special case though, because while Alizabeth went through the first part of her life feeling absolutely miserable because people hated her, Jurgen is one of those people who is... Um... What I mean to say is, he does not understand certain things about people (even though he is VERY knowledgeable about other aspects of people) and this would have made him an outsider no matter what. I guess what I mean to say is that the man (Yes he is a man, he's got the papers to prove it and everything) is an introvert with absolutely no concepts of personal hygiene or a large chunk of societal norms. Him being a Blank is basically the best thing that could ever have happened to him, since keeping people away suits him perfectly fine, and it had the added bonus of having him more or less surgically attached to his beloved Commisar, the closest thing to a BFF anyone could ever wish for in his situation. So he's probably one of the most content blanks in the entire 40k universe. Edit: Also he seems to have an even rarer power than most blanks in that while his null aura blocks psychic powers like any other blank, he seems to be harder to pinpoint than other blanks when not in close proximity, or it may simply be that blanks affect navigators differently than psykers.

Essentially the fact that we know emotions feed into the warp and the follow on idea that we don't understand emotions of others, rather that it is an inherent ultra minor warp interaction - we sense the warp presence of their emotion at an instinctive level: Pariahs being unable to interact that way can only ever simulate the experience via observing and copying based on body language

I was under the impression that Solitaire's are similar to blanks but they weren't exactly the same. Going from what I heard, they are not members of any Harlequin Troupe, instead wandering the Webway alone. When a Solitaire meets with a Troupe they can only communicate with other Harlequins in ritualized verse. Solitaires are the only ones who can play the role of Slaenesh in Harlequin plays without being consumed by the warp entity on the spot. Supposedly a Solitaire is a terrifying sight on the battlefield, even among the other Harlequins they fight beside, unleashing the full, unrestrained might of their psionic power, with no fear of being consumed by Slaenesh. They need not fear it, for every Solitaire knows that the moment they die, Slaenesh shall claim their souls. I always had a theory that one of the Lost Primarchs, possibly the Second was a reversed engineered Pariah/Blank by the Emperor and was passed down in his Gene-seed, with the intention of their existence being to directly combat Chaos. They seem like normal psykers rich Legion like the Thousand Sons, but in truth the Second Legion is actually leaching energy from the warp, nearby psykers and Netherborn. A later more refined gene-seed batch becoming the gene-seed of the Gray Knights.

I do find it interesting that the Emperor forbid and red taped all research into the Pariah gene, what was he trying to hide? Hints to his own work? No evidence, by hypothetically possible. Also, reverse engineering is the means by which to learn how something functions, and even try to emulate it.

Wystan Frauka, for example, had a limiter built into his belt which allowed Inquisitor Ravenor to use his powers, even in close proximity to him. The reborn Bequin also had a limiter, which allowed her to control her unnatural powers. In the recent story, The Nothings, a group of Sisters of Silence seemed to make use of similar technology to allow them to be close to a psyker boy without harming him or suppressing too much of his powers. Current lore also states that the Sisters of Silence are all pariahs, so it would be safe to assume that this limiting technology is in their hands and likely active until they take to the field of battle.

not really unless you want to form a squad of them that could never be deployed with other Grey Knights. Grey Knights fight with their warp powers as much as they are with weapons they use. Adding a blank in would mean that other Grey Knights can't use their powers. I'm going to use Watchers of the Throne: The Emperor's Legion as my source in which a group containing a squad of Grey Knights played 3rd wheel while a Custode and a small squad of SoS were fighting together on Terra and the GK couldn't use their powers and had to rely on their martial skills.

In it a sister goes back in time to warn others of the heresy and to do it had to pay with her soul. It confirmed that they have souls and that they seem to be completely undetectable to everyone to the point that they think they don't have a soul.

When you say the Necrons potentially engineered human pariahs, do you mean recently? Because the last time Necrons were were active en masse, 60 million years ago, humans weren't around. Hell, our most basic primate ancestors were a novel concept at the time, so unless the Necrons tinkered with early monkeys, I find it unlikely that at that time, Necrons caused human pariahs. Maybe a vanguard woke up early and did some stuff. Though now I find the idea that the Necrons engineered shit flinging Pariah monkeys as a counter to the Jokero incredibly amusing.

Also, can a Pariah be overwhelmed by sheer might? I just remembered a scene in one of the Beast Arises novels, where a coven of Sisters of Silence are found and are brought to the Emperor himself to renew their vows. If they were Pariahs, wouldn’t their presence cause the Astronomicon to deem and or blink out while they were there? As well as cause the life supporting Golden Throne to malfunction or behave like the Emperor is having a heart attack? Also, does anyone know if the Emperor is connected to some kind of EKG machine or even has a heart beat? I just thought of that.

I am just thinking... The reason why the Imperium cannot replace its entire population with pariahs is because they still need astropaths and navigators. Maybe this is why the Emperor tried to get access to the eldar webway? So humanity would have no need for psykers at all and implant the pariah gene in every living human? Also, I am surprised the imperials didn't at least try to breed them en masse and create special anti-warp squads for the Inquisition.

One thing I don't think this video really put forward too much is that blanks don't seem to hate other blanks. I know it came up in the Eisenhorn series that when he set up that group of blanks they got along well enough with each other. Which is what I think happens with the Sisters of Silence and the Pariah issue. Most of the order is probably Blanks. The sisters who go out and do the work, collect prisoners, investigate rogue pyschers etc are mostly blanks. The upper ranks of the Sisters however are probably where the Pariahs exist because no one but blanks could stand their presence. They mostly lead the group and realistically only go out in the worst case scenario's. More than likely they are like the Custodus and solely charged with protecting the emperor from demonic and psychic attacks on Terra. Hence the whole nebulous "They do something, but never seen doing anything".

IMO the "blank gene" is either humans adapting to rising amounts of psykers or a long term plan of the emperor, the "pariah" gene is probably necrons as they at least had warp negating units. Thats without bringing the Sensei into the picture, if they are still even canon.

Jurgen doesn't smell. That is Cain's way to put a word to the aura of the blank around Jurgen. The closer he gets the more obnoxious he gets.. Cain also constantly refers to how Jurgen's behaviors just upset him when he is around. Yet in other places he describes Jurgen as Meticilous when it comes to his work and duty. Yet when cain describes Jurgen himself he always finds things he dislikes about Jurgen.. things he objects to. Smell, the way his Uniform doesn't sit right and other things. Its just Cain putting into words what the Blank Aura does. Doesn't mean Jurgen actually smells, just that Jurgen, when he gets close people are so put off by him. The whole thing with smelling and such doesn't go together with how Cain constantly describes Jurgens worth ethics and how meticulous he is.
