Actually there is no active discouragement of partaking in multiple different aspects, and disallowing of returning to the same aspect shrine, those who partake in multiple aspect shrines can be eventually be opened up to the rank of Autarch, though this usually requires rigorous training and with the war councils (existing Autarchs, warlocks and farseers) approval of them. Additionally becoming lost on a path isn't considered a fate worse than death, those who become "lost" on a path gain more of a...mentor role in that path (farseers, exarchs and the like), and cannot leave it for the rest of their lives, it is considered a grim fate, but not one worse than death, becoming lost to the very ideal of the paths itself is a fate worse than death, and some eldar who are considered dangerous may actually have the part of their brain that...causes their psychic potential removed (though this is very rare). Also im sorry to say, you got the Phoenix Lords...a bit wrong, each aspect (dire avengers, howling banshees, ect) has a SINGLE Phoenix Lord, Dire Avengers have Asurmen, Howling Banshees have Jain Zar, ect, and his pseudo-immortality is something all his Phoenix Lords have, they were all trained by Asurmen and they would see him more as a father figure than spiritual liege, the leading councils of the craftworlds are, as mentioned earlier, councils of Farseers, Warlocks and Autarchs, with the Farseers understandably having the most major role. Sorry if this is a slight rant, I'm a rather large fan of eldar.
@93Avenger938 жыл бұрын
I'll just make a minor corection to what is otherwise a preety good correction of what arch got wrong: farseers are not automaticaly the most important members of post fall eldar society. In fact, depending on what craftworld you travel to, their importance and level of power in the hierarchy varies (Biel-Tan is purely led by autarchs for example). Also: farseers are not lost to the path. Those who become lost to the path of the seer become ... trees esentialy. In the meditation garden of the craftworld, they become some form of spirit tree and can aid other meditating farseers and boost their power. This is also an inevitable fate for all those who walk the path of the seer past a certain point. Warlocks which you seem to imply are what happens when someone follows the path of the seer and doesn't become lost to it, are actualy another of the mixed path profesions, in this case they were once warriors of an aspect before leaving that path and walking the path of the seer.

I thought all Exarch had the "immortality" thing, my lore-fu is old (2nd edition), but i distinctly remember the thing about exarch armour being mini "infinity circuits" and when someone becomes an exarch they become locked in that armour and their personnality becomes merged with the gestalt personnality built by the original exarch and all the eldars who wore that armour. And when the Exarch gets offed, the armour is all that is found, the body consummed by it. And Phoenix Lords are like other exarch, when they die, they are reborn when someone dons their panoply. But instead of being gestalt personnality of the (countless) wearers of that armour, they retain their original one. And all are (with exceptions like Karandras) founders of aspects. I think there was also a thing about them being ancient exarch who lost their home craftworld and shrine and wander the webway, but my memory is a bit fuzzy on that side. I remember a bit about Maugan ra being from Altansar and that craftworld still exists but is stranded in the Eye of Terror or some such. Not that i disagree with the post above, but... The video made me go "Wait wait did they massively retcon things!?" Arguably there is most likely many more phoenix lords than the famous canon one (Jain Zar, Asurmen, Maugan Ra, Karandras, Fuegan, Baharoth, Arah and Irillith), i don't know if there's anything canon on a Warp Spider, Crimson Hunter or Shining Spear Phoenix lord but they definitely exist somewhere out there. There could be multiple howling banshee phoenix lords like there is two Striking Scorpion lords if the definition of a Phoenix Lord is indeed along the line of "A really really old exarch who lost their home temple and took a lifestyle of wandering asskicking and altar founding"
@93Avenger938 жыл бұрын
Dee Tee ok, yes all exarch have the mini immortality thing, it's till around. Phoenix lords though are 1 per aspect (minus arhra who trades with karadras and goes to found the incubi acording to one version of his story) and are most definetly not "old exarch who lost his homeworld", in fact asurmen never had one, he was just the best warrior ever and named himself "Hand of God" because he's such a modest guy, and the pre-requisite to be a phoenix lord alongside him is to be his pupil (which raises question about Karadras, the space ninja with no lore). The only phoenix lord who lost his craftworld of origin was Maugan Ra with altanasar, except during the 13th black crusade he goes into the warp and pulls altanasar out of it. And it's aparently not a floating slaneeshi bordelo even though it was stuck INSIDE the eye of terror ever since the fall. As for your curiosity about other phoenix lords: warp spiders have a figure of a potential phoenix lord called Lhykosidae the warp spider, though it's still not confirmed and he might not be a traditional form of phoenix lord or even an actual eldar, Drastanta the Tempest of Starlight is the phoenix lord of the shining spears who curently in the lore only has "stabs a keeper of secrets so hard it's soul explodes" and "causes Asur to be invaded by slaneeshi demons which lead to the first death of Asurmen" as his major achievments (nice one drastanta ...). Crimson Hunters were only recently added with actual detail and models in the lore, so they still don't have a phoenix lord, though hopefully he/she gets handled better than derplord Irillyth.
@LizardBrain7238 жыл бұрын
@98Avenger98 i would like you correct your correction, those who become lost on the path of the seer do not become trees, no current lore or anything i have read has made anything close to a mention of this, farseers nearing the end of their lives go to the dome of the crystal seers, where they complete the slow crystallization process that takes hold of farseers in later life, becoming one with the craftworld itself. Additionally the warlocks are not truly separate from Farseers, as some Warlocks do go on to become Farseers, and of course, once and eldar has become a Farseer, they cannot become anything else, they become lost on that path. Finally, Biel-Tan is not purely lead by Autarchs, it's Autarchs are in greater number and held in higher standing, but the Farseers still play a very important role for them, they aren't always -the- most important members, but they always have some level of importance.
@LizardBrain7238 жыл бұрын
@Dee Tee this may have been the case in 2nd edition, but the immortality factor for exarchs has been altered somewhat, the armor will contain the souls of every exarch from what particular shrine, and whoever is the exarch at that time will essentially "meld" with these other souls and become a combination of all of them, giving them immense skill and knowledge on the battlefield, but volatile off the battlefield. Maugan Ra is indeed from Altanasar, but he was taken in and trained by Asurmen and went on to found the dark reapers, and even lead a campaign to save the craftworld from the eye of terror. There are 100% Phoenix Lords for the Warp Spiders, Crimson Hunters, ect, GW has just never decided to reveal who they are or what they're rules are, which is quite a shame. Finally the Striking Scorpions only "have" two Phoenix Lords because the first one, Arha, betrayed the others and attempted to kill them all with daemons, it failed but as such Karandras was chosen by Asurmen to take up Arha's mantle as Phoenix Lord of the Striking Scorpions, no other aspect has this, and thus no other aspect has multiple Phoenix Lords, in all reality the Striking Scorpions only have one, because Arha no longer holds that title, though of course there's the rumors about him creating the Incubi as his own aspect warriors, but that's not confirmed, though i do like that theory.

Thank god, another lore video to ease the college commute. Also, do Eldar forget or lose skills the same way humans do if they're not practiced for a while? Like, if an Eldar was a carpenter and was a painter previously, would they be able to wake up one morning a decade or so later and instinctively still know how to paint precisely, for example?
@bengrogan97108 жыл бұрын
Previous Eldar codexes basically imply that they don't lose their memories and skills due to being so much above us in mental capacity. They are implied to leave any given path if they are "Loosing their way" if you will and then begin another path in a different field so they do not re-enact their previous excesses. Autarchs for example, the Eldar military leaders, have followed the paths of several aspects without falling to the excesses of the Exarchs of a given path. As he remembers all his teachings from the different paths he can accurately see the vulnerabilities in each Aspect. For example, While an open field is an obvious vulnerability Experience as a ranger would alow the Exarch to tell the other aspects where enemy snipers are, His reaper experience would allow him to deploy tanks knowing instinctively where the enemy will deploy heavy weapons

i would try more youtube, there are an astounding amount of 40k/warhammer/age of sigmar (and so on) related videos with all the information regarding the game(s)/rules, miniatures or just the tinkering aspect you could need. also many sites that show all kinds of painted or converted minis, instructions for scratchbuilding stuff and so on. it all depends on what aspect you want from the hobby(not sure if thats an actual english sentence, but hopefully you understand). do you want to play? what game? with friends? on tournaments? just like to paint/build? write stories yourself? then there is always the question of money. GW miniatures are also called "plastic crack", for a reason. buying in their stores might be not a good advice, depending on your budget. if you just wanna play, get some stuff on ebay and start building up slowly, as when you start, you have no idea what you are doing. and not knowing what you are doing and going into a store with a lot of money to spend sounds like a bad idea. man, i can see the $$$ in the eyes of the guy behind the counter already. the best thing would be to have someone who can show you whats what and who can teach you how to play, paint etcetc. there are many ways of warhammering. :)

Love the video, but a few notes. Each Aspect has only one Phoenix Lord; Asurmen for the Dire Avengers, Jain Zar for the Howling Banshees, Fuegan for the Fire Dragons and so on. You might have mixed them together with Autarchs at the end, who have 'mastered' all Aspects and certainly have political power on the craftsworlds, though Exarchs of a craftworld too can meet for conclave. And Asurmen is not the only one who is kind of immortal; the Aspect Armour of the Phoenix Lords and Exarchs is special, in that thanks to Spirit Stones they hold the spirits of the former wearers. So a new Exarch will receive the memories of his/her predecessors, probably something of their personalities and take on the name associated with the armour. In case of the Phoenix Lord an Exarch of the Aspect takes the armour of his/her Phoenix Lord, and that original wearer's spirit is so overwhelming that the Phoenix Lord is, you could almost say reborn into a new body and the Exarch's is in a way assimilated. Still, great video.

It is not just that their emotions are stronger, it is that they lose who they used to be. So you know, if your girlfriend becomes a banshee exarch... your bae don't live there anymore. The body is there, and its current user knows that it used to be someone's lover, someone's child, someone's mother... but that is not who it is anymore.

yo dude. I'm sure people have told ya but this video and the unification wars video are not on your warhammer 40k lore playlist. Also just found you. love your content.

What do you think the Eldar think of Adeptus Astartes, seeing they see themselves above baseline humans and Adeptus Astartes being better humans?
@XvShadowsvX8 жыл бұрын
The phoenix lords are individual eldar that don the Armour of that phoenix lord there is only one of each at any point in time, One Jain Zar, One Maugan Ra etc and they are the creators of that aspect of fighting, the founding fathers so to speak. When they die their conscious is put into the armour and then when the next person wears it they become, literally, that pheonix lord, hence the title, phoenix lord.

I guess it says something about the general degradation of society in the 40k universe if the basics of infantry squad tactics makes Dire Avengers elite troops.
@mondaysinsanity81936 жыл бұрын
meanmanturbo if you're criticising the lack of ranged efficiency, to be fair I think that's because most armor is more powerful than most guns in warhammer 40k along with speed making melee often more effective to specialize in unless you're a sniper

So basically they are a combination of S.W.A.T & Kommando Spezialkräfte but with a longer active military service career & way higher reaction time, but I always come back her for your witty banter! :D

Aspect Warriors originally were allowed to be non-Codex, but the introduction of the Phoenix Lord lore pretty much did away with that. The Craftworld Paths were considered a necessary evil; trying to be everything to everyone all the time was the chief reason behind their corruption and downfall. So imagine how perverse it is to the Eldar to choose only one Path for their entire life. It's more similar to extreme asceticism, not hedonism.

Think I love you Arch. It's getting real bro. It's getting weird. Not in a sexual way, let's keep things square here. But you're getting me back into 40k slowly but surely, I keep getting inspired and excited by the hobby the more I listen to your content. Thanks bud

Hey, Arch I just discovered how to enabled the additional info you talked about in your Black ICE HOI IV review (Temperature etc.). Just type 'tdebug' into the console and hover over a province. Now you'll see all the information you need in the tab that just appeared. Unfortunately, though it's all in American... Use the Metric System! Just sayin'!
