Starting with a friend who played them talking about it in high school, the Blood Angels and especially Death Company are what first truly drew me into 40k. In 2004. We survived how GW acted around 2010-12, we'll survive 2021-XX.

"Back in my day" [dreadnought.jpg] it was explicitly stated in the BA codex that the Black Rage came from the Blood Angels' losses in the Heresy being so bad they *had* to take a final batch of first-generation gene-seed from Sanguinius's fresh-ish corpse, in their case meaning his blood. The way Death Company random size worked = BA Chaplains came with either 2d3 or d3+2, and each squad lost a member to it on a 5+. If you didn't have a Chaplain they'd be too few in number and harder to control (i.e. more random or forced movement).

Still remember the first 40K game book I got was a collection of battle reports that had the first mention of Captain Tycho, which was also the first ever battle report written for 2nd Edition 40K. Guy's so angry, he's probably the only being that Khorne actually tries to avoid pissing off.

My favorite bit of Death Company lore is basically a passing line in a Flesh Tearers story when Seth uses them to eliminate a whole IG troop convoy by shooting them to the ships in boarding torpedo's as they were about to jump into the warp. Cant remember what book or novella it was though.

I hope to see a video on Tycho. I got into a 40k when my dad got me a white dwarf magazine at a gas station when i was a kid, it was a blood angel focused one with a story about Tycho. So he was in fact the first space marine i knew by name and the blood angels for a time in childhood, i though them to be the poster boys of 40k. not the boys in blue. When later i learned of Tycho's fate. it felt like a gut punch. A video on his lore and deeds would be welcomed.

Arch, you got me into painting models myself and into listening to 40k books because of how you made your content and presented the 40k universe. Thankyou very much for the introduction to 40k and for making more vids. I am getting out some models tonight and thought it'd be nice to continue (haven't put any together in a couple years) while listening to one of your lore vids. You are one of the best 40k lore guys to listen to. Other youtubers like Baldemort do a good job of making the 'verse feel like an epic saga that you would rather listen to than an audio book. You, however, bring to your listeners an appreciation for details, more of a documentary approach with your dark humor that presents the lore as it is without having fan fiction. My opponnent gave up without a fight at this point XD It was totally worth it, rolling a whole Terminator-Squad and 3 out of 5 Devastators to take up the black armour Roling for Death Company was more fun than just picking them like any other unit.

The Blood Angels are so cool and have the best characters in 40K. Dante, Mephiston, Lemartes, Astorath, Corbulo, and the tragic Tycho. Edit for legions there are so many great characters like Sevatar, Sigismund, Bile, Raldoron, Azkallon, Loken, and it goes on for pages. This is why we love 40K so maybe GW should take notes.

I had a custom chapter descended from the blood angels. They had a large number of psykers and never suffered from the Black Rage. No demonic pact, no strange artifact, it just didn’t happen. Annnnnnd eventually the inquisition came to investigate, started poking and prodding, things escalated, and then the chapter was put into a situation where a third of their number were gutted. Then a demon of Khorne popped up, went “lol, time to have fun with this”, and allowed another third of the company to be driven to the black rage. Turns out it was a prank for the inquisition all along, as they ended up slaughtered and eaten, leading to the last of the chapter to be branded renegades. Felt like it was fitting.

When you still had to roll for squads who became DC my Devastators were always the main contributor. 1 time my ENTIRE squad fell to the curse and I lost a massive chunk of my anti tank firepower :| and since I dident have enough models to put them on the field it was effectively just a loss. That game was fun though, lol. The Blueberries dident stand a chance. My Deathcompany killed over half of the Tau army that day. It was a good day. :)

Astartes pretty much deploy where and how they want, and often, they're not accompanying any other Imperial forces - just answering a distress call or somesuch. They can put their Death Company down on a world wherever they want.

how would they know something is wrong? how would they know this is not what all Astartes do? how would they know what's normal and what is madness for them? Your average citizen most likely will never see Astartes up close or experience them in combat, neither a standard chapter Marine nor one belonging to the Death Company. And even if so that citizen would only see faceless towering demigods clad in power armour, shooting, slashing and tearing enemies into pieces in a symphony of carnage. no way you could assess if this is excess rage or just normal behaviour.
