I was litterally just about to ask on one of your latest videos if you were going to make an updated version before or after final shape. I've been listening/watching these complete story videos ever since you started making them, I'd listen to them while eating, while driving, while working, and even while sleeping. Dynasty was really well made, but wasn't as easy to listen to as these, it deserved more attention than I could afford to at times, got kinda sad when you stopped updating them.

man I JUST started reinstalling the game and decided to rewatch this. I haven't played since Witch Queen (and tbh don't know much lore outside of this video) so I'm super excited to see what I've missed. Can't believe happened to rewatch this right as you're making an updated version, lol, but if you see this, thanks for the content for real. I know creators get hundreds of comments a day and it's easy to slip through the cracks, but this video is amazing. The effort put into the research, the script, even just gathering gameplay footage and splicing it together, all that adds up when a video is 4 hours long. Keep up the good work.

Chronicler is a long grind (Truth to power book takes 30 weeks minimum atm, may be less once SK drops), but there's less skill involved (although you need the mote thief triumph, which is a bit of skill/luck)

Dorian cardenas Simply put Dregen is the quickest Seal to get. Chronicler is practically a timegate Seal. There is no other way to speed the process of getting it because it isn't dependant on skill level.

I come back here every now and then. Not to listen to Byf’s silky smooth, accent narrate the story, in a compelling way to fall to sleep. But to be enthralled all over again by the captivating story of Destiny and its universe. There is potential here for spin off shows, books, more comics, and maybe a movie. I look forward to Byf’s updated: “The complete story of Destiny”, video in the near future. It’s meant to cover the whole Light vs Dark saga, all in time to lead up to the Final Shape.

Phillip Dzierbun they explain their reasoning and it’s honestly a really good reason They said that making a Destiny 2 instead of just expanding Destiny 1 was a mistake, and they aren’t trying to make that mistake again. They don’t want to break the community up again and just want to focus on one game so the community can remain together and so that players won’t have to start over yet again and can just keep working on their current characters They also cited how Destiny 2 was shit on launch and took over a full year to become good and they’d also rather not have that happen again and would just like to work with the game that’s already good to keep us the players happy And they have a way to combat Destiny 2 from having too much content due to this aswell with the introduction of the Destiny Content Vault coming whenever Beyond Light drops, where they’re gonna start vaulting/unvaulting content so they can make room to expand and also just clear space so the download isn’t so big for so much unused content like for example the Warmind campaign has only been 0.3% of player’s played activities during the season and yet is 5% of the game’s download so why keep it Also unvaulting does include Destiny 1 content, as they’ve stated that along with vaulting things like Mars, Mercury, Titan, and Leviathan they’re also going to unvault the Cosmodrome along with all of it’s strikes and stuff and also the Vault Of Glass raid will be unvaulted too

I’d love that. Byf has the voice and charisma for it. I can imagine it now: making him, a wise wold Warlock, in the lower levels of the Tower, New Lights and Veteran Guardians alike would visit him down in the archives, in his chambers: a fairly big room, a small library, filled with tomes, sprawling scrolls over his desk, reading Hive runes and other arcana. New Lights and other Guardians meeting him for the first time learn of the lesser known stories of the Sol system, while he’s seen often in the bazaar, telling stories to children and New Lights alike. I’ve always seen his Guardian as a wise scholar, a keeper of knowledge, always a tome in hand.

I’m going to be honest, when my friend told me about this game, he said I should play the first game before I buy D2. I told him I only cared about shooting bad guys and customizing my Gaurdian. And for a while, that was all Destiny was to me, a game to pass the time. Then I found Byf’s videos. His method of story telling was amazing, and he truly introduced me to the lore rich world of Destiny. I thank you Byf, for entertaining me for hours on end, and educating me on these games.

Which is why most of it is hidden in lore books never to be opened much less read by most people. The result is that destiny's story takes more risks and needs a publisher who is fine with that. (Look at how bland Endgame is for example)

You see guardians watching over the people and helping them move around different boxes. Ships fly overhead in all different colors. Then you come to the city square, you see a guardian talking to some children telling stories of old, of guardians long gone, lost to the darkness, though they all fought for the light. The stories speak of saint-14, cayde-6, and many other legends. You move past him to your gate, you’ll be on the first colony ship, you’re a part of humanities new hope, you’re going to mars so you can make a start for the rest to come. You meet your crew at the gate, a titan stands before you with their broad shoulders and heavy gauntlets, a warlock with their face shoved into a book making sure they have everything, and a hunter laid out on a crate sleeping. Then you all get on the colony ship to set out. You check everything then double check it. It’s already to go, the ship launches without a problem and you get into orbit. You set to go to mars, but, once you get to mars a problem occurs and you lose almost all of your left engines, as the ship is going down you black out. The you wake up, your eyes stinging, you hear something talking “hey you… you’re finally awake”

Apparently, Radaghast, one of the first Lightbearers to coin the term “Guardian”, was the catalyst that shaped the foundation of what Guardians (whether we wield the Light or Darkness against our enemies) would be. He once had a sword, with a legend ingrained within it as legendary as Excalibur. Imagine how poetic it would be for us to reforge the blade, and if it were used to stab and kill the Witness? I do hope Byf creates another timeline video for the light and dark saga. This game deserves a series encompassing this saga, or at least showing us the origins and spin off stories of Destiny’s most iconic legends: Cayde-6, Mara Sov, Ikora Rae, Zavala, Rasputin, the Hive siblings, etc.

I just started playing Destiny 2 and I do like it. I have gotten to 1300 in about 100hrs but it was all very overwhelming and I had to be hand-held to a degree by my friends who were cool with showing me the ropes and the lingo. But even one of my friends who knows a lot of lore barely managed my barrage of questions. SO I thank you so much for making this and exposing me to content I never knew and thus could never get questions or answers to. Especially the Hive god backstories, they were especially confusing. Edit: 4 hours later I’m stunned at how comprehensive this was with only very few questions at the end since some things escaped my mind because of the sheer duration. Played Destiny, the story and lore always, always touched struck a chord with me, the struggle of humanity reaching for the stars and ensuring their own survival was incredible, the sacrifices of many for the lives of the few, it was just, amazing. The grind really took it away for me, I really wanted to play all the raids and everything, But always my equipment was just short of being good enough. Eventually I gave up. There is only so much you can grind on your own, and not being good enough and just being a more casual player with weaker equipment really made it difficult to participate in raids. That being said, I really want to restart the whole journey from the beginning. I don't have the gaming equipment necessary atm but hopefully in the future.. Thank you for your account of the Destiny lore, it really made me want to play it again. If not for the grind, I would really love to pick up Destiny 1 & 2 again.

Man I started playing destiny when it came out, finished the entire game, bought destiny 2, got super disappointed and bailed and I've just started playing again and I gotta say this was super well made and super interesting to the point I just had to watch it all on one sitting. Thank you very much for helping me remember all of destiny 1 and for helping me catch up with the destiny 2 lore! ^-^

I'm doing the same thing. Bought destiny 1, beat it. Never had friends to help with raids so abandoned it. Same thing with Destiny 2. A few years later and I'm back to play it again 😁. I love the lore and I do hope they expand it.

Byf? I've got one thing to say. Thank you for making this. I've loved Destiny's universe since it showed up in year one, although I only got to play within the last six months or so. Finally getting an Xbox One has enabled me to take a first-hand look at a world I waited so very long to witness, but taking so long has caused a major problem for me: I know almost nothing about the lore for the missions I've undertaken and the weapons I've discovered. Until now. I loved the game before this video, before finding this channel. I think I love it even more now, and this grows every time I watch one of your videos. To play the game is one thing, to understand the story you are taking part in and helping to build, even in a miniscule way... is something else entirely. This was well worth four hours watching, and you just renewed my desire to play a game I was just recently starting to grow burned out on. So, I guess the best way to end this has to be... Per Audacia Ad Astra, Guardian. Thank you for all of this.

As a day one player you will be no more lost than the guy who played D1 and payed for D2 and the vaulted content. This games lore takes a dedicated 3 hour video to try to understand it all. Bungee is terrible at making the story linear and giving the player a path to follow. Still a fun game once you start to get a feel for navigation

Destiny’s is shit because it fell into the trap a lot of these “live service” games do: They assume that if you make a ton of lore it can replace having a proper story. Also it assumes it can tell you how to feel even though it has zero intrigue and charisma. And while there are games that do this, Dark Souls comes to mind, it only gets away with it because you have your own personal story in it. No amount of lore is going to make up for the fact that you are supposedly the “chosen one” doing a dumb emote dance in hot pink armor in a social area with a bunch of other “chosen ones” who mow down hordes of aliens before breakfast making you wonder how the hell we got our ass kicked in the first place. And I largely blame a vast majority of this on the idea that someone thought unironicly, “You know what gamers like to do? READ.”

@@TheStewiestPac Many of the individual stories are far more simple than this video lays out, I literally had no idea that the Destiny universe had this much depth until now. It’s a bit annoying that the games don’t really utilise this lore, because it’s clearly very complex and interesting, but instead they chose to make very basic point A to B type stories for the expansions.
