It's the reason why Kreig Guardsman only have Commisars and Officers from their own world and they aren't shared with other worlds. Other Officers don't get enough men killed for them to be considered devout by the Krieg guardsmen and Krieg officers get too many men killed in normal regiments causing moral to break rapidly.

@@Eddneton94 Well, think of it this way: 99% of Imperial Guard commanders could be perfectly competent, 99% of the time the Adeptus Administratum and Adeptus Munitorum could get everything together and get the equipment where it's needed, 99% of the time the Imperial Navy could be there in appropriate force to support ground operations, and 99% of the time the Adeptus Astartes could work alongside local forces to support them and achieve objectives complimentary to theirs. Even if this 99% degree of appropriate support and adequate preparation was upheld across the Imperium, there would still be thousands of worlds, trillions of people, and trillions of tons of equipment that were completely and utterly lost simply because of how many war fronts and how many conflicts the Imperium is in simultaneously. Even if everything was running at 99% efficacy, the number of accidents, losses, and mistimed orders would be so many that there would still be plenty to look at to justify a reputation for things going wrong. That's almost the perfect explanation of 40k in general: it's so big that in the end it doesn't matter how well one person does things, somewhere else just by sheer probability somebody is going to fuck it up. TL;DR: The Galaxy is big, and even if 99% of the time everything went right that 1% of the time things went wrong would account for losses of manpower, equipment, and planets reaching well into the Trillions.

@@zachsmith1676 Allow me to recommend the two "Inquisitor Ravenor" Audiobooks followed by the Eisenhorn collection! They are less "SPESSH MEHREENS! CHARGE!" in their structure and the writing tends to leave space for the reader/listener to get a view into the 40k world from a SLIGHTLY more "regular joe" perspective. For instance; despite 40k being fanatically religious, gay people exist, they are known to the inqusition, and the planet did NOT get exterminatuse'd! Its only mentioned in a total of two sentences and then it is glossed over, but the Ravenor books are quite interesting simply because of the tertiary lore deposits they contain, it is quite interesting to see how the author managed to actually make an interesting cast of characters that interact in a manner more entertaining and occasionally more logical fashion then the space marines in the horus heresy did

Seems like the placement of the 1st LK where the 30th was, in a piecemeal fashion, is somewhat similar to what the British did during ww1 when rotating out units with “fresh” units. Essentially frontline troops would fight then once the second line troops arrived, the former first line troops would move to the rest area in the rear whilst those who were in the rest area move up to take the now vacant second line before they in time take the position of the first line.
