my opinion is. I don't like these builds. Looks great and awesome job by the guys that do. I like the old school way. Stock builds chain stock have always been my fav. Mainly because I love seeing how the cars bend when they hit. I really enjoyed when I was a kid where they would run heats top three move forward cars that died have a chance to fix the car for a consolation heat then you have the final heat. was so awesome watching a car that had to go through all the work after the first heat they were in to make it into the final and win. was great back when they used to do that.

In 2000 we went to a dent derby. The driver was not allowed near the inspection area so it was deemed legal or not, no cutting & reinspection, you simply weren't allowed to run. This crap ruins the sport for everyone, for God's sake this isn't even a car anymore!

That's how it should be. That's the only way to keep people from over building. Inspect it, and if it fails you tell them to load it up. Don't tell them why. Tell them to go home and Inspect it their selfs. Better luck next time.

That guy is obviously a good builder, but he can manipulate about every rule there is. But then, these really aren't cars anymore. It's obvious the rules were written by a bunch of different builders with their own ideas. Breaking down the interpretation of the words "may" and "to". Seriously? It's like listening to a bunch of freaking lawyers! They need to simplify the rules. You CAN do this and you CANNOT do this. Have an association meeting and go through the rules. Period. I agree with Mattwheaton7621. Car goes in for inspection. Driver stays outside. If they fail the inspection you get one chance to correct it and one more pass through the inspection. If you don't pass then, your out. These really aren't good old demolition derbys anymore. Demolition derbys are about smashing and destroying the cars. You can't smash and destroy these cars. The only way to stop them is to knock wheels off of them.

I agree 100%. The rule book is not written well and needs to be rewritten. BUT I see Pete manipulating the inspectors here by pointing out gray areas in the rules. Pete builds a kingpin front end because the rules don't say he can't. Ridiculous!! So now the rule books have to write out everything the driver can't do? Pete comes to these derbies as a high-ranking driver and pushes his weight around to get his stick. It's an unfair advantage Pete has vs. the other drivers who built their cars to the rules. I don't agree with overbuilding the car and then having to cut a bunch of stuff to pass re-inspection.

A good tech guy will have you explain why you did this or that because 10 people can read the same thing and every one of them might interpret it a different way so if your interpretation of the rule makes sense and isn’t obviously being twisted to get a advantage they will work with you to find a middle ground between what it says and what it was intended to say

@@LastResort1331I’m very interested in this. I promote a drag racing event…. different world, but still a place where guys like to interpret the rules. We’ve just liberalized the rules for one class and expect to see some creative interpretations. What about this particular car, for example, do you consider cheating? Are the kingpins “cheating” when (and I’ve never read your rule book) there is no rule that says you can’t? Or is it about what’s buried deeper in the car? I find this derby car inspection stuff fascinating and shared it on our page.

I have ran a couple of big events and it didn't seem as prevalent. As a promoter, my suggestion would be Watch out for the good old boy mentality. It's nice to have a big show But don't give up your dedication to the rules to do so.
