I always use a clear tube and an old jar when bleeding brakes , that way there's no mess on the floor and more importantly you can see the bubbles in the tube, and of course when the fluid runs clear of bubbles.

An old timer taught Me a real good tip when bleeding brakes. Pumping them up only bounces the air in line back & forth. Best way is Hold them down, open bledder, close beelder, let pedal up & hold down again, repeating till solid. guaranteed solid brake pedal again.

I have a little tip for u Robby. To bleed your lines, there is no pumping involved. Put a hose on the bleed valve and just open. Let gravity do its job and let it flow until all air is out, ensuring that you keep fluid in the reservoir at all times, or u will have to start again. Do this on all 4 and them pump a few times and all will be done. The hose is to collect all the fluid without making a mess. Just catch into a bottle. Give this method a try. U will be happy and it only requires 1 person.

Good stuff! It brought me back to the late 70's when our club ran Corvairs in spectator racing at Santa Fe Speedway near Hinsdale IL. We also did figure 8 racing, but didn't use Corvairs. Car prep then was much simpler, but it was major fun. Glad to see you back into it!

If I did what you guys do under a vehicle I would have already had ten pieces of metal or rust in my eyes. About 20 years ago I had a piece of metal in my eye from working under my car and I thought it was just scratched so I waited too long. An Ophthalmologist had to actually use a drill bit mounted on a platform to drill the metal out because it apparently rusted in my eye. if your ever have to have this done you'll wish you had worn safety glasses.

I did it with a welding splatter bauble, laying under a trailer welding up a cracked spring mount, the bauble bounced off the concrete and came up between my helmet and head .. landed in my eye and burned itself into place. Found a optometrist open, he used a large bore need from a syringe and flattened one end a but and used it as a very sharp scoop to take it out . That was an interesting experience I have no interest in repeating. The one upside was that fortunately the metal in my eye was totally sterile as it had been molten seconds before hand, so chance of infection was pretty low.

I had a spark from a heavy grinder bounce off the wall behind my full face shield, bounced off my cheek onto the inside of my safety glasses, and off the inside of the safety glasses onto my eye and stick. I know what happened because I felt it burn my cheek and saw it bounce of the glasses lol I was able to use an exacto knife blade tip and my rear view mirror to pop it off the white of my eye, so while it hurt for a while every time I blinked, it healed up fine lol

Our local fall fair is next weekend, they do modified truck and tractor pulls friday night and a derby Saturday night, I'm getting excited just watching this, I'm also on the local FD so I get in for free and watch from the track side with a hose 😝 can't wait

LMAO most of that car wouldnt pass inspection at the tracks we derbied on years go BUT the wires on the front would have!!! we ran a chain in a figure 8 through the hood around the core support and bumper brackets with a big washer and bolt in the center of the radiator

To bleed brakes: open bleeder screw, second person push brake pedal to floor and hold, close bleeder screw, release brake pedal. Repeat procedure until no air remains. Pumping the pedal can actually push the fluid past the air.

Never knew Hillbilly was left handed. Always hold your fitting in your left hand and wrap away with your right for Right Handed people. Thanks for being relatively safe compared to some of your friends, well let's just say that MORR needs more safety training. At least you use a helmet and gloves while welding, no overalls or smock but, that could be considered a luxury by some standards. It's not over until the fat rearend drops.

In Montana in 60's and 70's demo derby was stock cars with just glass removed. No other changes. Slowly things like battery placement, wiring and fuel location were changed. Then they started letting doors, etc be braised more solid. Far from today. After one session even most winners were unusable for a second session!

I wish our derbys were setup like y'alls. They don't use the full arena and it's normally so wet nobody can get any traction and it's just some denting of fenders. As the night wears on the mud dries off and the hits get better, but your track looked perfect!
