@eg_manifest510
@eg_manifest510 10 ай бұрын
if that were the case then the Eldar would've had no reason to be so nice to them, since the Eldar are absolutely repulsed by nulls and pariahs. I do imagine though that they would heavily utilize and revere nulls, as they're essentially the ultimate anti-chaos (or kaos) weapon and it'd be cool if that were reflected on tabletop and in any expanded lore that they might create. Maybe with their more advanced technology they'd clone a massive army of pariahs to substitute all the losses of being conquered, and they'd choose pariahs to clone because they still believe the Luna Wolves to be chaotic in nature, which would serve them handy when the Luna Wolves *do* become Chaos-affiliated

Very good in depth study. The Interex were one of my favourite fractions as well. I really liked how the Luna Wolves looked down on them. Their flimsy armour....their flimsy weapons....the interest captain crossing blades with Loken himself, and his sword even managing to withstand his power blade (if memory serves me right?🤔), how he made as twisting gesture on the haft of his weapon and slammed the ball-end of the staff into Loken at which point as huge kinetic impact happened which launched him flying into a wall. It was such a sad note when it all went away, and Horus desperately trying to salvage everything not wanting to "make a mistake" again as the Warmaster. So sad....

Just remembered another point from recent lore about the Leagues of Votann, who similarly have a limited warp presence and zero Navigators. They use their "Ancestor Cores" which may or may not be Dark Age of Technology STC computer cores, foundries, and archives of knowledge to calculate warp jumps. Given that we don't know when the Interex civilization was founded, whether at the end of the Dark Age or early in Old Night, we don't know what their total level of technology is. I would argue it is plausible they might have some sort of navigation computer, like those in Star Wars or Dune that can calculate warp routes for them without need of psykers. This could work to allow them to rapidly expand and increase their threat to the Imperium, while also reinforcing their hatred of them by demonstrating how advanced humanity once was, and what was lost when their old civilization was wiped out. I like the idea of fallen idealists turned militants for this setting. I just worry that limiting there territory might make them as much of a non-threat as the T'au technically are given everything that's around them. I tend to gravitate towards humans in these settings like you do, and I would want these guys to be front and center, rather than another set dressing like the aliens or even revived squats currently are. Great idea and video, it was really enjoyable to watch.
@Morrodin182
@Morrodin182 11 ай бұрын
Dune doesn't have computers ... You have a great parallel between 40K and Dune on that very aspect: Both tried AI and it went sour. This is why you had the Butlerian Jihad and you have mentats which are humans which perform the tasks that computers had. In Dune you also have the navigators which are addicted to Melange/spice as they use it to power their navigational skills.

The Imperex is such an interesting group and I’d love them to be a new faction. Their ships were far bigger than the imperiums at the time. The centaur armour allows for tons of maneuverability . Their bows were able to pierce through space marine armour with laser bolts. They also had automated drones similar to AI as aposed to the imperium which heavily restricted AI technology or study and used things like servitors. They also had aliens like the Kinebach in their society. The Kinebach had a powerful stocky build and were good shock troops having a physical advantage over humans. They had had weapons with ties to chaos such as the Anathame. But what they used in battle we weren’t sure of. A huge reason for the Interex loss in some ways was they weren’t ready for war with their society still adapted to peace. Also with the battle starting on an Interex world it gave Horus and the Luna Wolves a good staging ground. The Kinebach also weren’t allowed to carry weapons when it was a time of peace

In a sense, the Imperium was the greatest ally of Chaos, it gave chaos 9 massive legions of super soldiers and it gives chaos a near endless supplies of new recruits. One might say that the Emperor was helping chaos and funnily, the Interex in the books suspected that (because of Erebus since they didn't have direct contact with the rest of the imperium yet as far as I know) and having a human faction that isn't the imperium would be nice, also the Interex had xenos in their empire as well, so they should allow them in as long as they don't have Chaos taint.
@dr.rotwang

I love your take on a return of the Interex. I always thought that they were a vastly unexplored and underused faction that could have been a lot of fun. My one suggestion/addition would be for their lore. I think that given their old empire, when it comes to the various Aliens races, they would largely be ok with them. The Eldar they would be fine with, natural allies even, obviously they are also diametrically opposed to chaos. Orks they would probably find annoying but might be willing to trade with or at least hire on from time to time as cannon fodder off world. I think that Squats and Tau would land somewhere in between and be solid trading partners if not regular allies. However, the big surprise I would give them is to make them surprisingly friendly with some of the various Necron dynasties. The Interex being essentially a race of blanks, but still organic, 100% opposed to chaos, and also highly technology advanced would be very interesting to the Necrons as a whole. They are essentially what the Necons aspire to be. You could add some sinister overtones to the relationship from some of the Necrons if you wanted, but some like Trazyn and Zahndrekh would probably be quite buddy buddy with them. You could balance said relationship with giving them much greater access to Dark age of Technology tech, A.I., Men of Iron, etc. Back then Humans were almost, if not on par with the necrons, and were more advanced in some areas. Maybe have some lesser Pharon try to attack a world and get their shit absolutely pushed in sideways. Maybe said Pharon unleashes their C'Tan shard and the interex go "Oooo... that's neat, let's capture it and turn it against them." Then have them wipe out said small dynasty. To the point where some of the others Pharons are like "Hey buddies, pals, look were a lot a like you know..." I think that would be a really fun development for them. Plus it would give you a human/necron alliance that makes a lot more sense than the Blood Angels/Silent King fist bump. Anyway that's my 2 cents. What do you think?
@eugenewu1614

imagine a scenario where a Blood Angel gets called a 'Son of Horus' or 'Nephew of Horus' by an Interex edit: on another note, I feel that releasing an entire army with that aesthetic would be too niche; possibly introduce them and reveal Leagues of Votann as allies and army wise be something like 'Remnants of Old Humanity' where they both use Men of Iron or other types of AI and then expand both into solo armies but still have the ability to ally with each other

Me and my brother had a concept idea for this very thing! We were discussing our own 40k storyline and we had the Interex surviving out in the Ghoul stars after their destruction by the Luna Wolves. I like most of what you came up with, only changes I would do is; 1. The weapon of choice, naginata is more of a Japanese aesthetic and personally I think would clash with the Greek motif. I think a weapon like the spear/pike would serve as a better iconic weapon just as is was in Ancient Greece but have it function like the Goa'uld from Stargate where it's a melee weapon AND shoots laser blasts from it. (Since they blasted Space Marines apart I imagine it'd be something like 1 shot, 24in, Str 6-7, AP 2-3, DMG 1, but Rapid Fire 1 and in Rapid Fire range it's DMG 2.) 2. The units, I think the basic infantry would be modeled like Greek Hoplites, shield and all with grooves for them to hold their spears steady and aim down to fire. The rest of the army could be cybernetic/"40k" versions of Greek/Egyptian mythical beasts such as with the Centaur Armor, Minotaur Armor, Sphinx', ect.

Or perhaps give their base infantry unit a Roman style Scutum, Gladius and Pilum. It would make sense that since they were nearly wiped out by the Luna Wolves they would have a good reason to adapt themselves towards specializing fighting space marines. Advanced heavy shields capable of shrugging off bolter fire, forcing Astartes to close into melee rage. A limited number of Pilim capable of piercing or disabling space marine armour from medium range and a gladius with a phase blade making them deadly in close. Power armor that gives them the strength to hold formation against a space marine charge but still regular humans that don't have much of a chance against Astartes 1v1. Maybe make centurions(officers) enhanced humans of some fashion on equal footing with Astartes to give the opportunity for some epic 1v1 combat.

I really like your theory, as the Interex are one of my favorite parts of 40k's lore, there is only one point of critique I would raise. There is precedent for nulls being able to enter the warp, via the Sisters of Silence and the Black Ships executing the Psyker tithe. There is precedent for exclusive real-space flight in the setting in the form of the Chartist Captains which account for 90% of the spaceflight and shipping in the Imperium and only fly set routes. I like the limited territory approach to this faction, but it isn't necessarily required to limit them to slower than light, but the option is there. I really do like your approach to this, but did want to touch on this point. One other point, I like the Null approach, and might be misremembering this, but I'm fairly certain there was a line referencing the Sisters of Silence, upon Guillaman's return which depicted a Sister in proximity of a Navigator, and counter to the expectation of mind-rending agony befalling said individual, it actually became easier for the navigator to guide the ship they were on.

I do like what you talk about, the concept and ideas. And I also like Tau and realise that in this concept stage they basically feel like the human version of Tau (it could be argued that Tau are just the xeno version of the interex and I would agree since interex was released in lore before Tau). But this means it feels like they aren't really filling a niche in the setting or contributing much new, and their existence is really a non threat since "don't go there" is enough. But what if we change how they survived and how they get reintroduced quite a lot and some aspects a bit? A sub-race of semi-blanks, but how one in a billion is a psycher with great powers that are keenly kept in check due to how sometimes you can only fight fire with fire. Maybe this can be used in some way to make them a bit more distinct. And what if they had some ancient device of xeno origin that was unclear in its function, they knew it transported things to another place but no servitor equivalent has returned and no signal can reach where they are sent. But they know it's a place of safety, the devices function is an emergency exit. So, they use it when they realize they can't win against the imperium, opting for uncertain chance of prolonged survival over certain annihilation. They are transported into the webway and get kinda stuck in their region. They probably have encounters with the dark eldar, maybe this part of the webway is more or less closed off because it's damaged and have demon invasions, or maybe it was damaged because it's adjacent to the webway to the golden throne? Anyway, they establish their webway empire, fight of drukhari and become deeply distrustful against xenos and humans in general, but with their tech savvy and captured drukhari they start reverse engineering some of their tech, allowing them to navigate the webway and exit it. But since their own pocket is relatively peaceful there's no real need to establish in the more physical realm. Until Vashtorr with wormwood comes crashing through, tearing their pocket open to the warp and forcing them out into physical space again. Before they were just "minor pirate incidents" to the imperium, but now they need a new place to live and inhabit. And with the help of the webway they can move around without using warp travel. And this is why they can pose a threat as an invasion force and pop up all over the galaxy, searching for systems to take over, colonize and defend. Because the webway they have access to is getting corrupted by the warp. So this would make them a bit more of the human version of eldar I guess, but you could also add on layers or versions. Like one version being how they are trapped in their little pocket of webway that is completely isolated due to rips into the warp. They become warp tainted and are disgusted with themselves, but due to being semi-blanks they never really loose themselves and their mind. So once Vashtorr comes crashing through it also leaves them with an exit to pour out from. Their mission is to take vengeance on the imperium that forced them to this fate, fight chaos and once all that is done end their own race for their taint, but until then they will use it to reach their goal. Perhaps they don't give a fudge about xenos either way, perhaps it's specifically eldar and drukhari they hate for not freeing them from the tainted pocket, rest of xenos are "meh". They might even view the Tyranids as a weird ally, helping them achieve the tabula rasa they aim for and use their tech to study them in order to try to find a way to manipulate them in where and when to strike, might even go so far as trying to impose mutations that will help the Tyranids against an upcoming foe. Also sampling from them in order to bio engineer monsters of war, unleashed into the enemy with blind fury but with a safety switch explosive pack in the brain once they outlived their use or try to turn against them. I dunno, I like the concept you presented but want to make it a bit less Tau 2.0 🙂

thats kind of crazy, these guys always stuck with me after reading about them, when they found out that the imperium didn't even know about the warp (the emperor keeping a tight lid on it) they saw the imperium as bumbling children stumbling blind through a warehouse of knives and couldn't figure out how they haven't wiped themselves out yet.

What if instead of them having no Warp or FTL capabilities, They were a fleet of Interex trying to escape the Imperium during the Great Crusade? They could have used some faulty technology to escape and it flung them through the Warp like the Dark Angels and threw them into the future. They could be a few hundred thousand or a couple million in numbers but are mostly civilians. This way there is still relatively a low amount of them and their hatred of the Imperium would still be fresh.

[2:39*🤔2:50*] Interesting that you'd choose *'The INTEREX'* as a New Army, since one of the main arguments that their detractors in the XVI SoH Legion had against them (prior to their subsequent annihilation) was that while they are indeed Human, they choose to *_Mix & Mingle_* with various *_Alien Races_* & have them integrated & working throughout their whole society at large.** (* & the fact that you don't really care for any of the myriad of 40K Xenos Races) (** & thus, to properly represent them on the Tabletop, you need to include at least a few Xenos models to represent this.....if you wished to maintain/favor *_Lore Accuracy_* that is) Thanks NExile ~ Interesting & thought-provoking as ever [};-)=*~

In my 30 years of experience in 40 K, women tend to play elves, craftworld or dark elves. They like the costuming, they like painting them, and there are many female characters. The army that makes the most sense is dark mechanicus, with the introduction of vashtor, at the end of 9th ed. alternatively, the introduction of imperium nialus, leaves room for several side races that have been mentioned in the lore, to grow without the imperial boot, as it were. Could be something again to the tau story.

I don't think they are nulls. They simply ware way different in culture and mind-set to Luna Wolves. This is why they seemed strange to Horus and his fleet. In their first meeting with Horus Fleet they are mentioned to send message to his ship in every known way includeing astropathic message. So they had psykers but since Interex is used more as plot tool their society is not explained in more detail

I really like the Kinebrach addition to the Interex, there's a lot more potential there. Since the Interex are a Greco-Roman inspired army, what if they had a specialist division that resembled Gladiators? Also, the Interex really should use AI to the max if this army really wants to stand out in the 40k universe, given the Adeptus Mechanicus forbids AI. Be AI used in a swarm of fighter drones, legions of robot soldiers, AI tactician, AI logistics, walkers from Star Wars, I don't care. The centaur bit often confused me but if the four legs really is just a platform the warriors ride, then they should put the rear to use like a deploy station for small drones or a power station to release a dome energy shield or a turret station. As far as we know, the Interex are lacking TANKS. I dont know if the centaurs would be as fast as jetbikes, therefore the centaurs should at least act as mini-tanks. Apart from that, what the Interex really need are TITANS -- I'm picturing the Colossus of Rhodes If the Interex are going to keep their laser spears and crossbows, that's fine though let's not forget the Shield played a huge role in the Roman armies especially the Tortoise, so the Interex shields (be they energy or solid shields) needs to play a big role too. Maybe like the ballistic shield in Black Ops 4 with a bolt machine gun attached to it or flame-thrower, or a tower shield with hover tech. Secondly, the siege and war machines is what gave the Roman army many victories, so the Interex should have some kickass artilleries (maybe ones that use AI tech). Perhaps the Kinebrach can make some badass weaponry that the Interex shouldn't shy away from, or maybe utilize secret tech the Eldar shared with the Interex.

As a Greek, i can give you some advice based on our history. Well if you want to make a ancient greek like faction in 40k you need this... The chacteristics of Greek civilization in human history. 1.very few in numbers. 2.polis nations. 3.dodecatheon(12 gods) 4.highly technologicaly advanced. 5.standing in a highly strategic location. you can't have them in the backround of the galaxy. 6.bastion of humanity(west) from barbarian invasions(highly sofisticated empires). 7.World wonders 8.From a small limited space to a sudden expansion. Based from the above, the characteristics of a new Interex civilisation should look like this. 1. Around 30-50 billion people total. 2. Maybe a star system or a few which each and every planet is self governt. You can't have a central goverment. 3.it would be very thematic each and every planet be highly specialised on what they contribute to the whole. I imagine their civ having around 12 planets each based from an olympic god. For example. Demeter an agri world or Hephaestus a forge world or Athena a scientific world. 4. it wouldn't make sense to have an intact STC. I would say give them a damaged STC but they continue to evolve just like tau. 5.i know it's easy to introduce them in the backround of the galaxy but that's not cool anyways. their location must be of high importance, if not right away, in the future. 6.Must give them an anathema or arch nemesis to fight over their borders for millenia. 7.Greeks stayed in history for their culture and architecture. I would say that the main goal it would be to make them build an Dyson swarm or Sphere. 8.Use the energy from the Dyson swarm for a unique lost to time ftl travel and let them expand.(alexander the great style). THE GRIMMDARK Although i agree with most in your video. Xenophobe Greeks would end up being a mini empire of man, so here is an alternative. From the last interaction with the empire, the new faction is highly isolationist with no room for deplomacy which means first they destroy anything that come near their space and then they ask questions, i imagine it a highly defensive faction with units to match their playstyle. I would love to see some space spartans with energy fields creating a phalanx nullifying range attacks from long distance forcing the enemy getting closer to give them pain. what do you think?

Now I know lot of people wouldn't like this but I feel this would be perfect for one of the missing primarchs and the reason he was struck from history because he was a null who's power was so intense that when focusing his power could hurt the Emperor and the reason he was removed was he found out about chaos and that the emperor has made deals with its gods (which I'm 99% sure has) and decided to kill his father and all psychers to save humanity from Chaos. Then you could have it that in he was in a void battle and his ship exploded due to some dark age of technology weapon. Due to his enginuity he escaped with a cloaked escape ship wounded to the point he put himself in stasis and was found by the Interex assuming him a member of the imperium the readied to interrogate him but before they could say a word he was already screaming about ending his deamon worshiping father and ending that damn imperium. He could take a direct leadership position or like a second leading the armies from the front.

Some ideas of the top of my head: They're all nulls so for any human to join they need to be 'nulled'. they're put through a dangerous and often fatal procedure that severs their connection to the warp, effectively a "de-souling". Given the Interexs near extinction and the loss of their culturally rich empire they devolved into a far more militaristic society valuing combat prowess above all else. Very little of their society is focused on anything but the need to fight; they are perpetually in a cultural state of 'total war'. Given their low population they make extensive use of cloning but in a unique way. No true Interex is a standard grunt. Each is trained to perfection and once they become worthy of command they are cloned and the clones become the fireteam they will lead. The clones lack more in depth strategy and critical thinking but make the perfect counterparts for their true self. The original is considered the 'head' and the clones the 'body'; both working in perfect union as a cohesive combat unit.

8:05 If you look closely you can see what the designer went for hear which is... indeed unorthodox yet would almost make sense I would say? As you can see, the rider sits a bit back, is not the total front body centaurs usually are depicted as. The first joint that you see, at the height of the big swirly ornamental armor, is his knee. Then it bends back straight downward into his heel. You can see his entire boot and foot there. The mech-armor then elongates his foot with an EXTRA joint at the end that has the hoof attached. - It looked silly at first, until I looked at it for longer and puzzled out what's going on. This is really creative design. Applause to the artist.

The Imperium's contention with the Interex was their integration with xenos. Even the megarachnids were allowed to live in quarantine. A new Interex would be like the Covenant - subjugating other races for their best interest in a heavily fleet-based civilisation. I would also add that 10,000 years is more than enough time for them to forget their lost civilisation, Horus, etc. Their hatred for other human civilisations would be purely mythological.

I would make them send fleets of survivors in different directions, this could open up interaction with other races, tau maybe, where you can add in some centaur dudes. That would broaden where and against whom the can fight. Also they could have some sort of powerarmor, that slots into different "mounts", like the centaur or a chariot styled vehicle, or be fielded as just pa infantry. Oh, and jump infantry with stealthgenerators, that make them look like phasejumping around. Overall a cool concept.

The idea that females aren't represented in 40k is a bit ridiculous when you look at how heavily they are in Eldar factions, not to mention the Imperial Guard (which you could eaisly kit bash as there are many model makers out there), and they are also very present in Necromunda, which you could proxy models into an army for. I would argue that their limitations on representation are self imposed due to lack of imagination.

Not something in 40k, but something I *want to see* in 40k - Space Skaven. Think Warhammer Fantasy 6th edition, don't care about their own troops, pure mad science. Kind of like Orks, but instead of being melee focused and beating each other up for funsies, a malevolent race with a focus on shooting, happy to send their own to their deaths, using crazy mad science on themselves and their enemies.

Romas often threw their javelins at close range just before connecting in melee, and were good at shifting their formations around when they started to grow tired or were about to break. This gives me an idea for a faction that wants to stay close to take advantage of some devastating but close range shooting and can charge in if need be, but doesn't do well in extended melee, so has some abilities that help them disengage, not in a hit and run style but taking a small step back to blast their oponents. And their bigger units like the centaurs or big monke could be good at shooting into melee while looking for an opening to charge in at some high value target

Nice idea. And even if all their worlds were already known to the Imperium, which is unlikely, even if so, if the Interex basically saw them coming some worlds could have put everything on moving as much as they can onto new worlds to get away from them and rebuild, which is why they can come back now after thousands of years having rebuilt and developed. And that also goes with them having been underway to settle elsewhere for a long time and not wanting to stay too long near places where there is more traffic in space. More or less as the Squats stayed out of sight, or even how the Tau were left alone for thousands of years and developed fast. And with them walking on four legs, they should be faster, maybe have less of a penalty on moving and shooting heavy weapons, maybe have some back and side mounted weapons and also being nice in hand to hand combat. Since they are high tech only skimmers and flying vehicles. But weapons, high range and damage but very few shots ? For some maybe still the possibility of getting hot ?

Few points, though probably not 100% compatible: - Tau have no presence in warp too, but could travel through warp. Generation or hibernation ships make sense though! This way they could slip attention and show this civilization is rather long-term builders than power-hungry conquerors. - Greek xenophobes are quite represented by Aeldari (with celtic and far east influences) - there was a great idea (I forgot source) to add non-imperial human worlds as a separate force in 40k. If they are less grim and more reasonable than imperium (still main protagonist), but with marginal power, then it would add an additional layer of grimdark to the setting. That's somehow how Tau lore started, but they moved more into grimdark theme, losing this contrast that made the imperium darker in comparison. Maybe interrex could re-emerge as leading few unconquered fringe worlds with much more liberty and havens for commerce and rogue traders? They had also good relations with aeldari and could easily ally leagues of votann who are also outcasts (abhumans) by imperium standards. - something like sc Dragoons would be cool in 40k - would be indeed great to see a 'church of the Emperor' seeded by imperium, but cut off from eclesiarchy, resulting in a schism-like fighting and maybe represented by a heavy infantry unit for the new force. Would be fun if this small fringe non-imperial church would be better for the people. Free additional grimdark
@matthiuskoenig3378
@matthiuskoenig3378 Жыл бұрын
That's not adtional grimdark, that's grimderp. Grimdark requires there to not be a viable alternative that is dramatically different. This is why the tau where changed, it makes all the other factions from grimdark to grimderp. The way you introduce a freer-fairer-etc faction without making all the other factions grimderp is to make it clear they are doomed more so than any other faction, their society is non-viable. The tradgey of their doomed idealism and their attractiveness dooming even more to the same fate.
@mackmind
@mackmind Жыл бұрын
@@matthiuskoenig3378 I'd say that the tragic aspect in this would be that such more reasonable and enlightened 'dark-tech era remains' society would be inevitably destined to be bullied and then eradicated by much more militarized imperium local forces or eventually be an easy prey for chaos or xenos. Though I agree at least the first part is covered by aeldari at the moment.

Honestly, we don't need any new armies when GW's overburdened with its model production as is and the last non-Imperium human army we got was the Mary Sues of Votann. However, if we _had_ to get a new army, I'd say either Dark Mechanicum (with Kelbor-Hal and corrupted skitarii) or doing a redo of CSM that gives proper distinctions between the traitor legions and renegade warbands instead of the weird blend of both we've currently got. Traitor legions can have all the plastic Heresy kits and have the FW upgrade kits encouraged to give them more character while the renegades can use more modern imperial equipment like razorbacks and storm bolters. And yes, both can still use the stuff GW sees as Chaos like helbrutes.

Knight shaped helmets, but round Hoplite shields on the left arm, and horse hair crests on their French medieval helmets. Centaur Power Armor, or Centyr armor if you will. Only 10% of the population are able to control their power armor, so they're the ruling class. They're Grim-Dark in that they have a Helot/Peasant class that just can never be anything else.
