In late M38, all contact with the Adeptus Mechanicus facility of Skopios would be lost. Upon investigating, Elysian Drop Troops would discover a series of robotic constructs being manufactured a strange, skeletal creature that proved to be nigh unstoppable in combat. Just what sort of being could have caused such an event?

One must remember that this is a vast galaxy that is filled with horrors some that are even unknown to even the most knowable individuals. Though considering the mechanical nature of this incident, there are two possibilities on who attack. One is the Xenos known as the Necrons and the second is the Men of Iron. Though many considered that it was a Necrons tomb ship, but it starting to appear more of a Men of Iron. We truly do not know much of the Men of Iron, and quite frankly that is absolutely terrifying, because it may have been there doing. The Necrons have clear imagery and the green energy weaponry, but perhaps that is a misdirection by the Men of Iron.

I believe they still exsist out there in the dark floating through space and on undiscovered world's hiding from mankind and those who defeated them. Evolving and changing to better once again rise in the galaxy and threaten all within it.

@@SexyTimeWithTaylor Its not even just BSF that has them, they showed up in a gaunts ghosts book once too IIRC, where an inquisitor attempted to take control of them to use to crusade against the imperium itself (with Gaunt blowing it all up). Would fit into why the Inquisition would blockade and wipe the planet as they would know full well what temptation that would bring to anyone and how much it would upset the mechanicus.

we know lil about the Men of Iron but we do know they came in many shapes and sizes do we? The one in the Blackstone Fortress is a Men or Iron not the Men of Iron. So between the two options I go for MoI not Necrons. But the incident could also be related to a totally different species or even human empires more fond of AI dating back before the great crusade.

I was thinking the same thing. The Men of Iron had access to technology from Mankind's golden age and far more besides. There are stories of weapons used by the Men of Iron that could snuff out starts and consume whole worlds or just delete them from reality entirely. There for, weapons that disintegrated their targets would be almost nothing to them to produce.

@@robertnelson9599 There are also Volkite weapons, that are super rare in the 41st Millennium but were apparently relatively common among the Pre-Great-Crusade era Mechanicum and would certainly have been far more common technology in the era of the Men of Iron. Volkite weapons are described almost like heat rays, instantly blasting victims to ashes, which may fit the description of the weapons used here.

I could see them being a robotic mirror of the imperium, because during the Black stone fortress game, the man of iron that was in that game it talked about the fact it had truly met the real omnissia, now imagine an entire world consumed by the men of iron, like too the point the planet doesn't truly exsist anymore and it's all been replaced by technology. And the men of iron worship an AI controlled STC, that all the men of iron call the "True" omnissia

I know Necrons are "Known" for moving slow but given how many tomb worlds and dynasties there are, at least one with fast Necrons isn't the most far-fetched thing in the galaxy.

Yes Necron are slow 5" ( since the Down of War games! ) they was faster with the first Codex Necrons in the third Edition 40k, because they had like all infantry 6" ( even faster units have only 6" too ) in the 2nd ED of 40k where they apeared they hat basic 4" like Space Marines. ( But maybe there is a good reason why they can walk just 5" ) Solution: You could give your Necron legs like Illuminor Szeras then they could run 6" . But such modifications are not supported by the rules any more than cool older models! ...if you do you must find a cool minded boy or girl who play with you and this conversions. The strangest thing is: that Triarch Praetorians can run 10" as if they were always running! Good luck with this @flair541 !

I personally am pretty sure these were Necrons. Although the werent acknowledged by the Imperium at this point, this could be an explaination as to why it remained Secret and kept from imperial records, because the Elysians were completely unprepared for an encounter like this. At the time it sure was a really unsettling mistery for imperial forces, mainly because everything that could have delivered an explaination was destroyed. Additionally, one must keep in mind that the Necrons were acknowledged by the Imperium about 3000 years later, with every guardsman present at the Scopios incident long dead and therefore unable to compare their encouter with them. Love the theories that it could be something else entirely though

To me the Necron or C'tan shard theory is pretty air tight if the swiftness of the enemies from the first encounter can be explained by Eldar actually having shown up to put a lid on it--as they often do with Necron activity-but then legging it after their goal was achieved. Eldar are adept at making their enemies fight each other. They might have orchestrated the entire event. Maybe even explains the psionic disturbances and visions. Men of Iron also come to mind. They also qualify as ancient, abominable, and unrecognizable by tech priests.

As far as the Necron theory goes, I feel it is important to remember that flayed ones move at quite quick speeds and are shaped like a standard Necron warrior. It would explain why the first contacts where fast but also skeletal in nature.

I'm leaning towards the C'tan theory. The Mechanicas have shown a disregard for the taboo nature of Xenos technology when discovering highly advanced technology of the Necrons before knowledge of them was declassified. It's quite possible that a C'tan shard corrupted the techpriests, teaching them how to preform bio-transference and finally shed the last of their flesh. At that point the constructs would likely be somewhat different from the Necron designs, possibly being faster and more akin to actual human skeletons, especially given the Imperium's love of skeletal motifs. After that the techpriests and anyone else unfortunate enough to be caught up in the madness would be enslaved much as the Necrons once were.

Given how rarely we get stories of Chaos forces that aren't chaos corrupted humans I think the coolest and most interesting answer would be Chaos corrupted Necrons and even a Chaos corrupted C'tan shard. I wish there were more stories about the forces of chaos corrupting any of the major factions like Orks or Tau or Eldar, the best we ever get for chaos corrupted xenos is some minor insiginifcant xeno race from a single solar system.

I have a feeling that the structure the techpriests was some kind of necron c’tan prison. Maybe the outsider or the void dragon. Considering both are quite intact beings. Plus the outsider has some kind of power like what is described. And the void dragon is somewhat mentioned to have a very strong warp presence

What about "Men of Iron"? A single, rogue unit could have conquered and taken over the facility, turning it into a manufactory for more men of Iron (or at least weak knock-offs). The part about the Astropaths having dreams is curious. But that could be anything - a warning by a 3rd party (like the Emperor or some Demons), a longrange nightmare shroud effect or even just plain old premonitions.

Another possible answer is that it was some kind of alien entity, who used wither warp corruption or nanotech weaponry ("grey goo") to convert the planet, and it's inhabitants, into robot constructs. Which explains why they were so easily taken out by an orbital strike since Chaos or Necrons, of God forbid a C'tan, would have been far more durable while just some alien with some nanotech swarm would probably be (comparatively) less advanced.

Did the Elysians said that the constructs were emitting the same green light as the Necrons? Because unlike Necrons, our Men of Iron when activated emits a Red Glow like the terminator from sky net.
