iPhone is a good camera. The problem is that the ergonomics is not very good. That is one important thing.

Nice video again as always. I really liked your black and white photos. I recently went into vacation in NYC. I went all b&w. I set picture profile to monochrome and shot jpeg+raw. This way I had best of both worlds. I didn't shot too much people since that scares me still in street setup. I got some shots from bicycling guys tho. I find them interesting in street setup.

Thanks. Just start slowly and use reflections on windows when photographing people.

Peter, Love your work, and your advice. I welded my 20mm f/1.4 M.Zuiko (40mm equivalent) to my OM-5. Your tips and perspective are invaluable. I was out photographing in the heavy rain of a tropical depression today. Bad weather - great photos. Your work reminds me a lot of Saul Leiter.

Thank you very much. I still have that same combo. I should take it for a spin more often. What an honor to mention me and Saul Leiter in the same sentence.

Superb photographs. I understand your reason for using a 40mm lens very well after watching this. I am very interested in your reasons for photographing various things and it is a great reminder to me to not forget them. for example combining geometry of buildings with people.

Another great street video. Have watched several, if not most of your street views, getting close to information overload. My 27 mm Fuji f2.8 seems to be working well for me, especially since I always used zooms/telephotos.That will probably been of my travel lenses. Can't decide on number 2 yet.

Yes 40mm is one of my favorite focal lengths. Guess cause my first camera was a Konica TC with the 40mm 1.8 hexagon many years ago. Now for walk around its Pen EP-5 with Panasonic 20mm

After much debate I picked up the OM-System 20mm F/1.4 Pro lens earlier this year, and I have to agree that it is a very versatile focal length (not just for street photography) I've found it to be a great daily driver, and it it's pretty much glued to my E-M5 III. As much as I'm intrigued by street photography as a genre, I have yet to dip my toes in it properly. It feels a bit 'voy€uristic' sometimes in the day and age where privacy is a bit of a hot topic. Also, all the relevant rules and regulations with regard to privacy seem like a bit of a minefield sometimes, nit to mention the verbal abuse some photographers get on occasion. Haven't quite worked out how to approach this, and I sometimes feel I'm overthinking it, knocking all the life out of a creative proces that can otherwise be enjoyed so to speak.

I’m not running the Ricoh down. I’m sure it a superb little camera, as are the Leica D-Lux8, which has a zoom lens, and Fuji X100VI. I have and use such cameras and love using them all, from the phone, through M4/3 to full frame. They all have their place, but let’s face it, they are mostly interchangeable given the same equivalent focal length and all will do the job. It’s a matter of which one [or more] you fancy. Those with an iPhone 15, Pro or Max can adapt it to handle at least as well as the Ricoh by using a Freewell Sherpa versatile grip, which I do not own but covet. This makes it easy to hold and has a shutter button on the grip. The phone has far more features than the Ricoh plus optical zoom up to 5x and macro, Live Photo, brilliant video, auto panoramic, adjustable depth of focus after shooting and so much more, including all the usual computer, browser, email and so much more we are accustomed to on the latest phones, including the ability to be almost invisible. All for about the same price as a Ricoh. In fact you can include the clever grip and still be competitively priced and only have one device to do it all.

Yes, iPhone is a very capable camera in many ways. For me the phone is for other things. I would need a second phone for photography. There are some quite nice grips for mobile phones. I had one way back (forgot the brand) , but never really liked it. I still think that a "real" camera has better ergonomics. I have planned to do a video about street photography with my phone.

If the AF is not very reliable, you need to close the aperture... take a good camera, like the Sony a7CII and a 35/1.8 lens open is not a problem....
@ForsgardPeter

It is not that much about the AF and its capabilities. It is more about the depth of field.

Hi Peter, do you have a preference to black & white over colour?
@ForsgardPeter
@ForsgardPeter Ай бұрын
I am a bit more towards color, but I have been photographing black & white lately.It was the same on this photo walk. I started with black & white but sifted towards color. It is all how we see. I tend to see color and ralations between colors. I thnk both are totally ok and I do like black & white photographs a lot.
